Norman van den Wildenberg ------------------------------ Subject: The first ever Da Lata Recording!!! From: "Paul Waller" Date: Sun, 6 May 2001 11:42:54 +0100 A while back I mentioned a band who I believed to be an early incarnation of Da Lata, namely Trio Da Lata. Since then i've read Norman's website where he describes the band's first ever recording that was made for the japanese Brownswood label (released on talkin' loud records in the UK). This is definitely the Trio Da Lata track i have!! It's called 'deep water' and is on a compilation called "Brownswood Workshop: Multidirection 2" that was compiled by United Future Organisation. It dates right back to 1995. It states "Trio Da Lata" is christian frank, sharon scott and patrick forge (ie: two of the band's founder members) with guest musicians danny giles, adrian oxaal, satin, oliver bailey, kathy mello. It was mixed by the band and a guy called Lee Hamblin at Ezar studios, wandsworth, london. Writing credits go to c.frank / p.forge. Norm you definitely need to add this to your discography mate - it's a classic! It sounds just like the Da Lata we know and love - a laidback mix of moog, cello, tablas and percussion, electric piano and acoustic guitar with dreamy vocals, sung in english. What's it like? It the perfect companion to a track like 'barumba' by incognito (not the Tamba Trio track of the same name). If anyone's interested in hearing it I can make a RA or MP3 file. There are three, actually. The original European and the Japanese versions both have that plaid thing going on--kind of reminds me of those webbed lawn chairs. The Resurgence version has the photo of Mark & Mike in front of some goofy objet d'art, wearing clothes which don't seem quite right for them. From: "Norman van den Wildenberg" Date: Mon, 7 May 2001 11:56:46 +0200 So it seems this is realy great news. I was aware of a Brazilian group called Trio Da Lata but on theire website, the info they wrote and photo's they showed, this was a threesome of Double bass, Cello and Saxophone... This is not the same I guess ;-) (Althought this should sound nice) 2 weeks ago I've asked Chris for a complete discography of the band, but as they did so many things this could take a while. Thanks Paul for the info Norman www.dalata.zzn.com
