For my Digest friends....I'm now back on track with my health & finally managing to keep up with the Digest messages. After e-mail problems trying to contribute to discussions, I have decided to try again & see if this one gets through via my personal e-mail address, rather than my office one. Re Annie's shop....after all the commenting on this re the shop address, stalking & whatever....did anyone say what she sells in her shop???? If anyone has > any recommendations about what to see or where > to go on the island David, you're in for a treat--the IOW is a lovely, charming place. Get a couple of day-passes for the Southern Vectis bus line and electric train, and you'll be good to see the entire isle. Sites not to miss include: IOW Steam Railway - Scenic and serene, see the isle from the velvet-lined interior of a century-old wooden railway carriage, pulled by an antique steam locomotive. Model village at Godshill - Touristy, but very worthwhile, it's the most interesting form of gardening I've ever seen. Nice area for lunch. Carrisbrooke Castle - Spend a couple of hours hiking the ramparts and enjoying the breathtaking views (see my own pics at http://members.aol.com/georgedickelno12/castle.html). Sadly, except for the name itself, Joe DaFlo's no longer bears any resemblence to the place where the first ILF was held. Just bow your heads in respect as you pass by, on your way up Union St. ;o) Bon voyage - Don Z. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! I've managed to write a little biography about my L42 history. This is the result,my story so far... I was born in 1978 and living in the Netherlands. Born in 1987 again - as (probably) the youngest Dutch Level 42 fan, which I'm very proud of. First, I grew up with James Bond, World War 2-movies, The A-Team and Knightrider. I was also a fan of Rick Astley during his hit singles "Never Gonna Give You Up" & "Whenever You Need Somebody" in 1987. A short time after my family presented, as a birthday gift to my father, the Level 42 CD "Running in the family - Platinum edition". As it was the family's first CD I wanted it for myself on a tape. I played the tape on my own small stereo and listened to "Something About You" many, many times. I also mixed songs from the "Level Best" tape to tape whilst singing along in the microphone with my friend of the same age from next door. And the result of all this? I became a fan of Level 42 on my 11th birthday. In the years after I had built up my collection with just the regularly available albums from the local music store. In 1990 I became a member of the UK fan club and a year later went to my first live Level 42 gig at the Rodahal, Kerkrade, the Netherlands. Not knowing what was to happen in years to come this would be my last Level 42 gig. In the years after, when I have completed my collection with all albums on CD, I started to collect anything that I could lay my hands on. I first tried through the "Free-magazine" of "Free record shop". From here I started a great collection with only one article in that magazine. Through this magazine I met my first Level-Friend, Jeroen Tym, who provided me with Mark King's "Influences" CD. We travelled together to Enschede and the Jaarbeurs, Utrecht, searching for items that we still didn't have. In '92 I became a member of the Dutch Fan Club. The Fan Club quit in '94 soon after the band had split. This bad news gave me the opportunity to write letters to all addresses that I found in UK & Dutch Fan Club Issues. This offered some great results to find other people who are still fans and friends right now. One of those who sent a reply was Richard de Jong. My collection and count of Level-friends grew once again. 1998. I decided to purchase a PC and a new world opened for me, the INTERNET. I found lots of information about Level 42, visited my first "Levelfest" and started to build a website. In February 1999 and seven years after my last Level 42 gig I had the opportunity to see Mark King's comeback in Koln. It was after this gig that I shook Mark's hand for the first time. I had followed the Koln show with a gig in Kaiserslautern, March 1999. After driving about 400 km from where I live one of the greatest moments happened there. Mark invited me into the soundcheck for over 25 minutes and also made time for a little chat afterwards. My next dream came true at the end of '99. I started a temporary band with Dutch fans to play at the next Levelfest in Weert, the Netherlands 2001, also organised by myself. October 1999, next stop - the Jaarbeurs, Utrecht, Mark's first festival in the Netherlands, and a great meeting afterwards with Mark, Gary and all the Dutch Digesters. November 1999, Jazz Café, London. Visited two gigs with a few non-Levelfans and met up with lots of Digesters. As this was so good we decided to do it over again in 2000, this time for four gigs. At the moment, as I am a DJ and with the help of my friends and family, I'm very busy promoting Mark King & Level 42 in the discos using re-vamped Level 42 songs danceable for the hard new century. In 2000/2001 it was the time to re-vamp my website with great help from a non L42-fan called Erwin Verlinden. Anyway, you will find lots about the late 90's until now here. Pascal Koolen "Levelhead" Many thanks Nigel Bird for your assistance!
