Well, no, of course Joy Barling is not the author of the Wallingford procedure, DOH. I'm specualting that she used the concept for the cover. Several points to remember: Even though the two images are not identical, they are CONCEPTUALLY identical. Yes, in the photo, it is raining, but you need rain to produce a rainbow. Look at the FRONT edge of the kerb in the PHOTO, the combination of dirt, water and light creates kind of dimples of light and dark. This effect is use all over Barlings (wider) kerb, front and top. Look at the kerb joints, they have been mortared. Kerbs are not generally mortared, and this kerb looks like the mortar has been applied some time after the kerb was laid. Barling has used mortar, and it is very similar. The weed is just TOO close to be coincidence. Yes, there is a slight curve in the photo, though I feel this has been 'slightly' exaggerated by the scan (which had to be done in two halves) More subtly, personally, I always thoght the smashed bottle looked out of place. I just never seemed right to me. For a start, debris should be upstream of the drain, suggesting that perhaps either Barling didn't realise this, or someone smashed the bottle there on purpose. In my opinion, and the opinion of several drainage engineers in our department. barlings drain cover design is unusual if not unique. Still, I agree, she may/may not have used it. I think she did though. > http://www.forevernow.com/news.html L()Z ------------------------------------------------------ Laurence Green Research Assistant Sheffield Hallam University School Of Environment and Development City Campus Advanced Construction Research, Room 302 Sheffield S1 1WB TEL: 0114 2253368 ------------------------------ Subject: Trival Pursuits> Serious Consequences From: "bunty omar" Date: Fri, 27 Apr 2001 09:57:17 -0400 Subject: The Pursuit of Drainage From: David Cousins > v funny : ) I have a theory it's outside Annie McCaigs shop in Edinburgh: THE PURSUIT OF ANNIE McCAIG : ( Why an earth can't you people leave the poor woman alone, she was a bloody backing singer 10 years ago for fuck sake. I don't understand this obsession of traking down ordinary people trying to get on with their lives "where's Annies shop?" "What's Mark's Address?""What trivia can I gleen from my idols that hasn't been asked a thousand times already". Who gives a flying fuck, find some friends and quit hounding people you think are your friends, they eat, shit and sleep just like anyone else; probably think your insane anyway and would gladly cross the street if they saw you within 10 yards for fear of a Chapmanesque encounter. More seriously:- There is no way anyone has the right to publish peoples adresses on this or any other site, who knows what sicko might be reading this and decide "I'll try blowing Mr Kings fingers off today". I rarely post anything here that could be considered any thing other than tongue in cheek, but on this occasion, I believe this is fanatasism gone too far and should stop.
