The modern sliding doors represent one night stand type, easy relationships, the opening doors, well, you have to work a little harder. Excellent directing. OK, hands up, who amongst us have used the PAUSE button in the To Be With You Again video?? Maybe this is where Rich Maybury gets his... No, I won't go there. Towards the end of the video a silhoutte of a man appears doing sign language. Who is he ? I wandered if it was a certain bass player we all admire. Please try and help me to solve this riddle as it's been bugging me for ages. Thanks Lesley PS Nik Kershaw's single Wounded is really fantastic and anyone out there should buy it. ---Open Email - Email on your tv with talk21--- ------------------------------ Subject: Re: PLANETS, DARLING, HELL, and MORE From: "Sean D. Well, if everyone Loz speaks to has these tracks and they're coming up on Napster, why don't we turn this into the next Unreached Levels disc? There is a ton of stuff that has surfaced, as Loz has mentioned. Brazil 99, D7, Hell, The Planets, Oh Darling, Free Your Soul, Fire, unnamed instrumental demos, etc. I'm wondering if someone closer to Mark would be willing to take the initiative to say "hey look, it's out there already, so can we make a disc of it?" Or perhaps Mark would like to put it together on a disc & put a little extra for the L42 coffers. Instead of people hording & hiding things that others are wasting time downloading, why not make it available to all? shuf ------------------------------ Subject: A new fan From: "goldie100" Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 18:24:02 +0100 Hurrah! Congrats on the arrival of the newest L42 fan - I thought the original name was great, but she may of lived to hate you later on! I myself am due a new fan in early July, so any tips on names would be greatly received. The most original one will be considered (maybe as a second name) I already have a Joseph and an Emily, both as yet pretty blissfully unaware of the origins of their names. Even a listen to RITF won't ring any bells with them. As for trading stiff - I am very surprised we haven't heard from Alex Friesen on that one. Maybe he has become one himself, where art thou, love? Will make a concerted effort to play my SAY video tonight to check out the train - never noticed it myself. Always being willing to contribute to something arcane and seemingly irrelevant, here are some more juicy tidbits about the Osmond/Level 42 connection (after all, who can forget the great Level 42 and Music Theory thread from 5 years ago?). Donny Osmond (and Osmond Family) used to own a audio/video recording studio in Orem, Utah called Osmond Studios, now known as Ventura Media Center. The Salt Lake City/Orem/Provo area has become a very for studio recording, particularly for non-union players, arrangers, producers, etc. . . This sounds weird, but it is true. The US studio recording hotspots are Los Angeles, Seattle, New York, Chicago, Nashville, and . . . Salt Lake City. A number of the best of the local studio musicians are regulars on Osmond recordings and play as the 'house band' at their studio and on many of their shows. This band has been known to play blazing covers of numbers such as Mr. Pink. It is probably this same house band that accompanied them to the Sony Studios where Donny and Marie taped their talk show and were reported by a digester to have played several Level 42 tunes (See digest archives, 1999, digests 138,139,140,141 for discussion about this and links between the Osmonds and Al Murphy). My music degree is from BYU (Provo, Utah), and it is not surprising at all that the excellent musicians in this area know about Level 42 and that the 'gospel' of Level 42 has spread to the Osmonds. Now if we could also convert them to Steely Dan . . .
