When I first joined the digest last year I asked a question and got one reply (thanx again to David Cousins - how are you?) so maybe we should all try harder to help others out, and maybe be a bit more friendly? as for varying topics, it can be really difficult talking about the same old thing. I am a Level 42 fan - a band that no longer exists, therefore not much new going on there, and I haven't really listened to any of Marks new stuff. Therefore, it can be an open and closed book straight off. Maybe religion doesn't have a place on the digest (I started the legendary Santa v Jesus debate and have since learned a valuble lesson) but on the other hand subjects can be so limited that a little injection of something a little different cannot do any harm. Unless of course you get some A***hole who decides to be nasty and posts you an offensive reply - that is the chance you take. By the way - I am sure Mark says at the end of SAY video "We're only human after all" but then I am probably wrong. I have also been told I am not a fan anyway - I don't like 'Guaranteed'. Ho hum. As I said at first, I wasn't the person who introduced this topic. You are right L()z to say that "People are killed through the greed and anger of over zealous men and very little else." But I think I am right in saying that most of those men hide behind religion or nationalism. I also don't think my "relegation of humans to the literal offspring of soup has diminished the value of human life." Life is still sacred, whether there are any gods or not, if we evolved, or if our ancestors indeed cruised in from Golcafrinsham (correct spelling?) as related in Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy. Maybe my "in the sky" was a bit emotional and general, I concede, God may be elsewhere. Imaginary is OK though. I deem there has only been speculation so far, I've seen no concrete proof. "Spew" is also somewhat of an emotional word I would venture! Was I trying to convert people to my religion? (That's what "proselytising" means - I had to look it up, although it did say especially of the Jewish faith) I thought I said the Internet would do that for me by eroding superstition. I also didn't think I was intolerant. Being a union official and an organiser of the Workers Music Association Summer School (in sunny Sheffield) I think I am more tolerant than most. I have invited Mormon callers into my home, have accepted flowers from people at airports, and have a JW as a good friend. I didn't think I needed the United Nations to make a resolution to make me tolerant. I am very cynical of politicians and am of the view that most people are in politics for gain or because they cannot hold down a proper job. Tony Benn is an obvious exception to this. As for my religion, although being sent to Baptist church, I believe I am now actually a pagan. I have I god which I call on from time to time, even visiting a "graven image" occasionally. Of course my god to be totally imaginary, but it helps one focus. Likewise with magic. Use it when you need it! At the time of the aformentioned Baptist assault on my belief system, I came to the conclusion that Christ, who certainly seems to have existed, or to have been part of consensually perceived reality, may have been a stranded astronaut, without the help of Eric Von Danekan. Well done L()z for having a go at me. But, be careful, sometimes people see offence where there is none. YOU CAN STOP SCROLLING NOW - RELIGIOUS DIATRIBE OVER YOU CAN STOP SCROLLING NOW - RELIGIOUS DIATRIBE OVER YOU CAN STOP SCROLLING NOW - RELIGIOUS DIATRIBE OVER Don's comment about tuning down. I have a "Hipshot" on my 4001 E string which drops it down to D at the flip of a switch. It was only about 10 bucks. Very useful in the Who's "Substitute" which is in D but has a nice riff to play in E. The tuning is variable from 1/2 tone to 1&1/2 tones but I suppose a tone is best, like the keyboard tone wheel standard setting. Just to say I just heard something about you on BBC 1 at about 10 to 3, also, someone asked who r. gould is, it's actually boon, boon is a nick name, and r stands for rowland, there is more to it then that, but i can't be bothered to say it, any way... TCOY Humph42 ------------------------------ Subject: New bass -- new stings From: "Sean D. Green" Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 09:14:39 -0500 Hey Levelheads! As some of you have posted to the digest in the past about looking for basses or strings, I just thought I would add my 2-cents worth here. After a few years of playing my Washburn XB-200 (a great bass for the money, mind you,) I decided to have another look at some of the more affordable basses at Mars Music. After a 2 hour search-and-play, I finally came up with the 4-string Cort Curbow. Yes, not exactly a popular bass in this realm, but definitely one worth looking at!! It simply plays like a dream. While others in the store were hammering on some of the Warwicks, Yamahas, Fenders, and many other high-dollar items, I managed to zing a few with some trademark Mark King licks on this Cort Curbow. Needless to say, and much to my chagrin, I received all eyes and ears for a while. I was astounded by the action and tone as it gave me a real 'Level' sound. It played a hell of a lot better than the Warwick, that was priced well over $1,400!! The price: $369!!! PLUS an additional %10 off if using their credit card. So...without hesitation, I purchased it that day. During the same transaction I decided to get a new set of strings. Traditionally I had been using the Ken Smith Rock Master Lights, and they had been very good and lasted longer than others of similar quality. This time, however, I decided to try something new -=- Fodera Diamond Series "Victor Wooten" Signature set. VW4N (.40 .55 .75 .95). Just yesterday I put them on this bass, and yet again, have transformed it into a real slapping/funk machine of a bass. Mr. Pink never sounded so good through my system!! So, for those of you wanting to try out this bass -- DO IT!! You'll be glad you did! Funk on!! ~Sean p/s Thanks to so many of you for the inquiry about my latest MIDI: I Sleep On My Heart. I hope to have it completed very soon! *********** "The MIDI Extreme" *********** * http://www.flash.net/~questps/midi.htm * *** For the best MIDI files on the net!*** ****************************************** ------------------------------ Subject: re: posting, new people, content From: "David Goodall" Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 15:48:17 -0000 Hi Ann, In Judgement Day the line "legend in her mind" I'm pretty certain is a reference to Margeret Thatcher. Remember the line "Tell me how you sleep at night when all around you ministers are saying they have had enough..." As for the reference in Coup D'Etat I don't think it's Our Maggie, maybe it's a literary reference or a reference to someone in the news at the time? Any ideas? Who was it you thought it was?
