On a different note, I found a copy of the double 12" of the K Klass All Over You mixes in Camden for only one quid! Does anybody want it. I allready have a copy. ___________________________________________ It's amazing what happens when you breathe. www.breathe.com ------------------------------ Subject: posting, new people, content From: Greatanger @ aol.com Date: Mon, 16 Apr 2001 12:33:29 EDT I've posted before - sometimes I get responses, usually I don't. My feelings are never hurt by it - I think what happens is that everybody thinks somebody else will cover it. Diffusion of responsibility, or something. L42 content, then: questions, for no good reason except that I'm curious. Who's the "proud man's daughter" who "came through slaughter" in Coup D'Etat? Is it the same person who's a "legend in her mind" in Judgment Day? Is it who I think it is/was? Not being even a remote fan of the genre (with the exception of Janet Jackson for purely artistic reasons) I'd never seen a Level 42 video before. Without wishing to offend any die-hard purists here, they weren't the most charismatic band in the world, were they? The most striking aspect of it was that they managed to make a video for The Chant Has Begun which was even worse than the lyric, something I never would have thought possible. Anyway, if anybody wants this I'd only be looking for the couple of quid it cost me. AG PS What on earth is Mark King mouthing to camera at the end of the Something About You video? Thank you Digesters, especially Mario and Mike. You’ve been so nice ! Just by reading your messages, I can say I feel comfy in this Digest. Mario: If I don’t participate a lot, it doesn’t mean I’m scary. Maybe I haven’t got much to share. I’m sure most of you are more knowledgable than I am, no doubt about that, because you were nearer to L42(geographically speaking, of course). And that means you could go to their shows and experience in the flesh their sound. Well, I’m talking in the past tense, but Cazz, is the best example of the present. Luckily, he’s learnt that L42 existed/exists, and, as he so enthusiastically puts it, he discovered more than music when he went to the November gigs: It wasn’t just music – it was the whole atmosphere. You’ve got the atmosphere, you’ve got the knowledge. Anyway, I’ve got a few Cd’s, the sites on the Internet, and all of you Digesters, who’ve been teaching me a lot for months without knowing it. What else can I ask for ? (A trip to England and a ticket to one of the MK gigs, perhaps ? Just kidding, of course.) Cazz: Face it. YOU ARE A FAN. Bye ! If your goal is to play Level 42 >music, then definitely go with the 4-string. Adapting >the MK slap style to 5-string requires advanced >skills. >Good luck! - Z. Amen to what Don just said. Not only does it require more skill, but it just isn't as comfortable slapping a 5 as it is a 4. (I wonder what it was like on Tony Levin's 3-string?!) Randy Jackson was quoted once as saying, "for slapping, there isn't a 5 around that sounds as good as a 4", with which I partially agree -- although my Yamaha 5 does sound gorgeous -- but for me it's more about the feel. Of course, if you're not necessarily after a slapper's tool, then it's a whole different matter -- does the music you want to play involve a lot of low-register work? Would a 4-string mean a lot of dropped-D tuning? If so, then maybe a 5 is for you. If you have any other questions, there are loads of us out here who would be happy to help. regards Rich ------------------------------ Subject: Boon's Guitar Auction From: Lars-Ove Larsson Date: Tue, 17 Apr 2001 09:48:48 +0200 OK, so now the auction for Boon's guitars is underway.
