LimitsToMySanity ------------------------------ Subject: Today's sermon From: "Mike Bartlett" Date: Sun, 15 Apr 2001 11:28:19 From Andrew Goodwin, last Digest: "Yes, thanks to whoever raised the topic of religion. Really, thanks a lot." My sentiments exactly. The other day I thought I'd stumbled across the God Botherers Digest by mistake. Religious discussion has a time and a place - I'm buggered if I know where and when that is, but it ain't here and now, that's for sure. There's been a lot of talk about the lack of substance on the Digest recently. What about some of you lurkers getting involved? You must sit there week after week and read all this literary bollocks that people like me come out with. You probably make comments to yourself - well, try typing those comments and hitting the Send key. Trust me, it's a piece of piss and it won't kill you. Out of around 1300 subscribers, it's usually the same ones posting and, while we all enjoy those posts in the main, we clearly need some new blood! Please help save the Digest before we start swapping bloody recipes! I know it can be a little scary. It took me a little while too. Please don't feel intimidated by some of the more knowledgable levelheads in here. Its a chance to learn stuff about L42 you never knew before. I know I've learnt a lot from other levelheads in the past. The best thing about the digest is the debate and the varying opinions. You'll be amazed by the differing opinions. A L42 album which you really like may be thought of by other levelheads as not so good.I must say the digest has of late gone off the boil. We need a spark of inspiration. Has anyone got any ideas?? Of course, you may get the odd idiot who will try to impress and show off his/her knowledge. Thats because we have foot IN mouth disease in the UK at the moment and its spreading like wildfire. Welcome to the digest Andrea Mario _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Subject: 4 or 5? Howard, think of the rule for buying a computer: buy the machine which runs the software you intend to use. Likewise, buy the appropriate bass for the music you intend to play. If your goal is to play Level 42 music, then definitely go with the 4-string. Adapting the MK slap style to 5-string requires advanced skills. Good luck! - Z. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! First, I suppose I should say that my name is Cazz and I am rather new to the Digest and also new to L42 and MK. I know, I know... big surprise there, especially to all of you who have been following these guys forever!! I am from California ~ and was introduced to "all of this" by one of your fellow Digesters (He knows who he is!) in April or May of last year... leave it to an Englishman to think his musical tastes are better than yours! Especially if you happen to be American, eh? Then, in November... I found myself at not one, but TWO of the MK gigs! I even met a few of you at the Worcester gig. Mark Beardsley... and a few others. But I owe you thanks, Mark... because I got to meet MK, get a T-Shirt signed and a photo with him. I never expected to do something like that, and it was an added bonus to seeing MK live. Just to set the record straight... IMHO... the show in Worcester was better, except for the opening act...(who was she, anyway?) and parking in flooded streets! :) However, it needs to be said (cuz I know he's reading this!) ... the atmosphere was WAY superior at the Jazz Cafe in London!! Now, I am constantly teased about being a "fan"! As if! What criterion is that based on, pray tell? And how do I know if I really AM one or not?! God, the horror, the horror... :) Okay, okay... I have downloaded almost everything L42 has done as a group... and I bought the Trash CD... was given "One Man" as a gift (cheers E!)... and really love the "Live at the Jazz Cafe" CD!!! (Why don't I have that one, E?) But I did get the Audio CD and CD-ROM of MK's IOW. I was also sent one of their music videos ~ which REALLY took me back to the first days of MTV!!! (again... thanks, E!) I have even subscribed to this Digest!! Does that a make me a fan? Nah!! I am not dedicated to the cause of seeing them all together again (though secretly I would love to hear them all play together live, in person...) I also couldn't tell you which album came 1st, 2nd, etc... And if given a song title, could never name which album it came from! I only know the first names of the band members (aside from MK)... and would be hard pressed to name them out loud anyway! So... am I a fan?? Well, I don't know... But I would pay to see MK perform live again... even if it meant having to fly to my favo(u)rite part of the world!! Thanks for letting me share! It's therapy, ya know! ;) In addition: Subject: True story - From: "Mike Bartlett" Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 14:12:25 This was great! When I started reading it, I thought for sure it was the cheek and creativity of a certain ECW... but I was mistaken! :)~ Great job there, Mike!! LimitsToMySanity
