Hi good people....
....I had a sad experience recently and wanted to share it with you all. I
think you'll enjoy it. Remember, it's a true story.
I was at an art show with some people – I love looking at pictures on the
wall. On my way out, a girl asked me, "why are you leaving?" There was
silence – I was busy staring at the sun. "Don’t bother me" I told her. She
said, "this is your last chance – who are you, man?" I told her I was known
as The Milkman. Her name was Tracie – she changed it from Kouyate because
nobody knew how to pronounce it. Apparently her parents were hippies and
wanted to call her Starchild. I asked her where she was from – "Kansas City,
Milkman" she said, "I flew here from Heathrow in ‘88." As we walked, we
talked about past lives. She told me her world machine wouldn’t work – I
told her to turn it on. If the machine stops, I explained, resupply it with
batteries. I asked her where she lived – "Almost there" she answered, "take
my hand, we’ll be home before the sun goes down." We came to an intersection
– "which way?" I asked. "The Chinese way" she told me. "Look love, games
aren’t my style" I told her, "so which way?" "Over there" she said, "follow
me."
"We have to hurry" she said, "the clocks go forward tonight and if I’m late
for my new job I’ll be in hot water - I'll have do to overtime" She can't
help herself, I thought, but the essential thing was not to ruin her big
day. We arrived at her house – number 43 – she and her family had lived
there forever now. "Take a look" I said, "there is a dog lying still on your
lawn." "Yes," she replied, "that’s Mr Pink, he’s one in a million. You
should have seen the ape we had. He was my hero but he ran away seven days
ago wearing my father’s shoes. Or was it seven years?" I saw her eyes
waterfalling and told her that, with a little love, time will heal. "Yes"
she said, "but Billy’s gone now, guaranteed never to return..." "I spend
hours by the window" she told me, "and we all like to keep fit." "Really?" I
asked. "Yes, we’re always running in the family, and my sister Pamela has
gone swimming with Sky, our older sister."
I heard a noise in the distance. "Are you hearing what I hear?" I shouted,
"get inside, woman, there’s a sandstorm coming." "That’s okay, I dance on
heavy weather" She said. I laughed and said, "yeah, I’m a good man in a
storm, too." So there we were, standing in the light, and I told her, "I
love your physical presence and I want to be with you again." She said,
"Romance – it’s not the same for us." I asked her why. "I don’t know why,"
she said, "maybe I need to learn to say no." "Who says?" I demanded. "The
children say," she said.
She looked at me with a kinder eye and said softly, "I want something, but
I'm just not sure what it is." I said, "If I had something...." But she
pressed her finger to my lips. As she turned to walk away, I called after
her, "I suppose you're leaving me now. I know it’s over but there'll always
be one man with whom you can weave your spell." I never saw her again. Out
of sight, out of mind, as they say, but maybe that's only for true
believers...
Cheers ~ Mike (Sydney City Milkman)
By the way, I may have accidentally slipped in a couple of L42 song titles.
How many can you spot? Answers on a postcard please...

Hi Everybody,
I told everybody on the digest last week that the Y-Chromo-Boyz would be
doing our Album Launch Gig on 05/07/2001.
It's changed, we thaught it would be better on a weekend date, and have
therefore changed it to Sunday 08/07/2001 at the Quay Theatre, Sudbury,
Suffolk.
Tickets are available from the Box Office priced at £10.00
It's going to be a great night, we have a DJ lined up whose going to play
nothing but Brit Funk,Acid Jazz and rare groove before the gig. The YCB will be
on at 9pm for a full hour, playing all tracks from the new album
'2Double01'
Digesters have contacted me already to announce there intention to come to
the gig - Thanks.
Follow thier lead - and drop me a line or get your tickets direct.
The YCB are looking forward to meeting all you funky dudes!
I'm still taking reservations for the album, if you want to be on the list
for one of the Limited edition albums, drop me a line.
Cheers,
Phil - Y-Chromo-Boyz

*I've just had an idea that may be quite fun!
*Many digesters seem to be in bands, or have recorded music in
some capacity - what if we all contributed to a CDR, maybe called
"Machineworld" - it could be burned and distributed to all the
people on it.
*I guess this would need someone to be coordinator, I really haven't
figured out any details, it just seems like it could develop into a
nice fun idea.
*What do you think, folks?
*David Robertson
*PS. Yes I am in a group too - Swivel Chair is our name
----->>>>> I tried this idea before on the digest and got 1 reply - but
good luck

Subject: Forever Now Questions
From: David & Kathleen Pseja
Date: Fri, 13 Apr 2001 16:25:34 -0500
Since the digest is pretty dead right now, I thought I'd liven things up
with some questions that are actually L42-related. (Gasp! Say it isn't
so!)
First, why is Heart On The Line listed as "skeletal"? It seems like a
pretty fleshed-out version to me. Were any other versions ever produced or
released?
Second, there's been some talk in the Digest about the Resurgence issue of
Forever Now being the version that the band "wanted to release", while the
BMG issue is the record company's vision. Can anyone back this up with
fact? To me the BMG version seems much more like a complete album with a
fanfare-like opener (Forever Now), and a good kiss-off-to-everyone closer
(Don't Bother Me). Don't get me wrong, I love the additional songs on the
Resurgence release, but was it really the band's vision to release a
"skeletal" song and the clearly second-rate "Time Will Heal" on the
original album?
I can hear the can of worms being opened...
