From: "Charl Mocke" Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 22:00:42 +0200 Hi again friends! Briefly, 2 more Level 42 Ringtones for your Nokia cellphones: Forever Now and Running In The Family. I've been asked to put in the RTTTL format as well, also to show the correct BPM setting for the tone! So I've put all of the previous tones up again, with all of these added. :-) You may want to re-set the tempo of the tone you entered yesterday! :-) Here's what you need to do: 1.) Choose which tone you would like to use. The Nokia 3210 can only store one at a time. The choices (at this stage) are: Forever Now and Running In The Family, Children Say, I Sleep On My Heart, Nothing More To Say, Something About You, To Be With You Again and Just Like That. 2.) You need to turn off all sounds on your cellphone temporarily, because this could cause a delay when entering the notes. Press the Power Button, and choose "Silent". After you have finished entering the tones, you can set this back to "Personal" or "Loud" (or a Profile) again. 3.) Go to the "Composer" menu option on your Nokia phone ("Tones", "Composer"). 4.) Now enter the EXACT keys shown here for the song you have chosen. For example, (hold 5) means you press AND HOLD the "5" key for a few moments until the note on the screen changes (usually a dot or something gets added). 089 would mean you press 0 then 8 again then 9 one after the other. The commas in between means you wait a second or two (you have done adding a single note). Forever Now exact keypresses: 68, 7, 1*, 2, 3, 0**, 3, 0**, 2, 1, 6**, 29*, 19, 088**, 588**, 6, 18*, 0**, 19, 6**, 29*, 28, 19, (hold 6)** When done, what's shown on the screen should look like this: 8a1 8b1 8c2 8d2 8e2 8- 8e2 8- 8d2 8c2 8a1 4d2 2c2 8- 8g1 8a1 16c2 16- 8c2 8a1 4d2 8d2 4c2 4.a1 For those interested, the RTTTL format: FN:d=4,o=5,b=112:8a,8b,8c6,8d6,8e6,8p,8e6,8p,8d6,8c6,8a,d6,2c6,8p,8g,8a,16c6 ,16p,8c6,8a,d6,8d6,c6,a. You now need to set the correct BPM (tempo) of the specific tune you have entered. Go to "Options", press "Tempo" (I think?), and then choose the appropriate BMP: Forever Now: 112 Running In The Family: 125 Children Say: 112 I Sleep On My Heart: 112 Nothing More To Say: 112 Something About You: 112 To Be With You Again: 125 Just Like That: 125 6.) Stay in "Options", select "Play" and you should hear the tone! If something sounds wrong, check the tones you have entered. Compare what's shown on the screen with the above lines. 7.) Choose "Options", press "Save", and give a name for it (e.g. the nutorious Level 42 Digest Acronyms, i.e. "SAY" for "Something About You". :-) ) 8.) Now, in "Tones", "Ringing Tone" option you scroll past all the usual built-in ringing tones crap, and then you go to the one you've saved (e.g. "SAY") and select it! (before selecting it, by just keeping the cursor on it, it should play as well). 9.) Congratulations! You now officially have a Level 42 Ringtone on your cellphone! Whenever your phone rings again, it will play that beautiful tune, and the people around you will ask, "What is that tone? It sounds cool!", and you will proudly say, "Oh it is xxx by Level 42... wanna hear some of their tunes? I've got a CD in the car..." :-) BAM! New fan. :-) Some more to follow soon. Jarvis (BASS) and Marky-N -Robson (KEYBOARDS) and no carpets in sight. The boys have released their self-financed debut 4 track E.P under the band name "Y-CHROMO-BOYZ" - check out http://www.y-chromo-boyz.com Phil tells me that they have some spare singles available for FREE if you sign up at the website. It is as best a classic masterpiece. On the first listen its hard to fault it. Both guys are very talented songwriters and musicians, who have serious potential. They are certainly the ones to look out for in 2001 and should be snapped up by a record company within 6 months of 2001. However they do need to start writing songs with lyrics to satisfy the fickle buying public. At the time of writing, Phil assures me that they have enlisted a female singer - more on this to follow. Their album should be available in March 2001. Below is a track by track review: STROPPY - A classic funk track with slap bass and a brillant piano hook, along with a haunting keyboard arrangement and powerful drums. If this track was released commercially it would crack the top 40. Music like this puts the so called talentless boy bands to shame. Proper musicians let the music do the talking like they do on this E.P. IMPOSSIBLE - The 2nd track from the E.P starts off with an excellent bass solo before the piano kicks in, Followed by a synth flute. Another gem of a track - bet it sounds much better live. SIMPLY SIMPO - Has an infectous groove which shows off Marky's keyboard skills to a "t". Picture the scene for this track - a warm summers day, ice cold drink and this track blaring from your stereo - bliss. Often imitated but never bettered. JAZZIFIED - Not as strong as the rest but still a good effort. Both guys show that they have what it takes on this track/s - each track sounds as though they have worked on each note and not just thrown it together by pressing a few keys. Expect this band to be huge by mid 2001 - This band can be summed up with 4 words - " A CONFECTION OF PREFECTION ". Review by Allan M Robertson, not connected with the band in any way. from jan HTTP://WWW.COMEHERETO.COM HTTP://WWW.ONALEVEL.ORG.UK _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2000 #308 From: "Alex Humphries" Date: Tue, 26 Dec 2000 23:02:58 -0000 hey levelheads... wow! Short digest! Well, I spose most people (like me) are doing something else on christmas... humph42... ------------------------------ Subject: Over where ? From: Vivient Gill Organization: @Home Network Date: Mon, 25 Dec 2000 21:53:30 -0500 Levelheadz Trust your festive celebrations for the holiday seasons were above expectations. And now lets get ready to start the countdown to another exciting new year. I was just catching up on some of the digest comments & was delighted to see a mention on "Over There" You got to admit that it's tough to debate the subject war let alone translate to music....but. I just love the way Level 42 had summed up some of the feelings & consequences people caught in the midst of war. Creating a song, injecting poetic words to some up feelings of people leaving there loved ones behind at home as they go to meet there destiny a destiny of uncertainty. I just listened to "over there" on the re-issues & compared it to the Fait Accomplait version. In the Fait Accompliat video you can see Mark trying very hard to express the tune the best he can however it looks to me that he was not impressed by either the sound of his bass or his vocals not being amplified correctly. It is very apparent cause you see those unmistakable facial expressions that he makes when things are not going his way. Well to sum up, he is actually shouting, over there, forgive me but I like the way he does that, it sounds great, it's hard to esplain, the re-issues version he sings it in a continuos.... therreeeeeeee, kinda sounds gay. I like the hard felt, there, tough sounding & maybe not the intention of the song. I also noticed a difference in synthesizer which is not on the re-issues, but that's the beauty of 42 live, they sneak in extras & it sounds evan better. Hooohheeee now that I've got that off my chest any body got any other versions of over there? which do you prefer? And does any body really give a hoot?
