Phil ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Stroppy Sevens From: Zak.Nilsson @ latimes.com Date: Mon, 6 Nov 2000 10:17:33 -0800 ///Hey Phil, i meant to tell you how cool your tune 'Stroppy Sevens' is. Good stuff, right up my alley. Keep up the good work. Also, sounds much better with the new drum track, good work Zak. How did you do that?/// Yeah, Stroppy Sevens is a great tune. I did the drum track by playing back the original MP3 in one program, and recording both the live drums and the MP3 together in another program simultaneously. So it was literally a live mix recording, I just made sure the levels were about the same for the MP3 playback and the drum input before recording, and then just played along to the mp3. The drums are a set of Roland V-Drums, so the inputs went through my system and into the computer directly. Thanks again to Phil for creating the original track, it's great. In case anybody missed it, you can get it here: http://www.funkrock.co.uk/ And my track with the added drums is here: http://www.xaqtly.com/NewStroppy.mp3 Zak ------------------------------ Subject: Stroppy 7'z - Many Thanks From: "Jake Smith" Date: Mon, 06 Nov 2000 19:19:37 GMT Hi everybody, Just a quick note of thanks for all you guys and girls that have checked out my demo track, and for all the excellent constructive comments that I have received. It was quite good but I thought perhaps they could have spent a bit longer covering L42. A few observations : 1. Terence Trent D'arby ---what a prat...he thought he was God !!!! 2. Why only position 9....beaten by Five Star was not that great eh ? 3. Paul Crockford's taste in fashion hasn't improved 4. Why no Boon interview? Was he not asked or did he not want to be interviewed ? 5. A pity Lessons in Love was not released in this year or the band would have been higher I'm sure ? On to other stuff, looking forward to the gigs next week. That's assuming I can beat the weather and the train problems and get to London !!!! Loz did you get my email ? Anymore on the L42 goodies for sale by Ian Buck's mate ???? Finally I have heard that 80s band "Go West" are travelling and playing in the Brannigan's bars around the country. Is this true ? Let me know if you want me to check for you.... I might add that fares to Birmingham and Manchester are also available as an option. Cities that still have seats remaining (there are a few more just naming main cities still left): Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Washington, Charlotte, Miami, Memphis, St. Louis, Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles. I hope that it works out for somebody that still may want to go economically! Those who want to try to make the IOW gig, I am afraid that fares are very very high still and availability is still very very BAD! I would be happy to research for anybody who still wants to go though! See some of you in a few days though, can't wait........... I thought it was dead good It was excellent, far better than I had feared. I was ready for a trotting out of the standard cliches, but there was only one mention of Cortinas and the yuppie stuff, though overplayed, was undoubtedly accurate. It was nice to see the fact that they are decent blokes coming across so evidently (for those who didn't see it, Stuart Maconie (who is frequently quite cruel) told a story to illustrate his belief that Mark King is the nicest man in pop, relating to MK cooking up pizzas for visiting journalists. Apparently Iggy Pop can't be relied upon to be so homely.) The other aspect of it I really enjoyed was the way the guys were so self-effacing about their little footnote in pop history. Every week on that programme you'll see piddling little has-beens making grand claims for their supposedly groundbreaking role - this week's, for example, had Kim Appleby claiming that Mel & Kim were the pioneers of girl power (like that means anything anyway) - but the Level 42 guys were utterly humble about it, to the extent that Mark King admitted that looking back at the videos and fashion attempts was embarrassing. That show is the first time I can remember since about 1982 that I haven't felt that admitting to being a fan would cause derision. From: "Philip Lee" Organization: ;-) Date: Tue, 7 Nov 2000 08:37:29 -0000 Hey Guys, Just a few requests.... I went to the venue (The Black Bull) last night to finalise the preparations and we have a slight problem in that all the power sockets are at the opposite end of the hall to where we can put the band. If anyone has a Reeled extension lead (30ft) and can lend it for the duration of the day 12noon till 10.30pm ? I will be supplying my own reeled extension cable, but we have a lot of electrical kit to run and I don't want everything running off the one socket. Also, has anyone got like a portable CD player that we can use to play music in the bar area and would be happy to bring it along for the Afternoon and evening (2pm-11pm) ? We are hoping to have a video projector as well. If you have any interesting Level 42, Mark King videos please bring them along... If you can get your hands on a decent Video Projector we might be interested as well. Please email me if you can help with anything.
