From: Winman42 @ aol.com Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 10:31:46 EST Phil D, I don't think it's wise to expect a response to sending an unsolicited CD to MK care of the address given for ordering his compact discs. Keep in mind that i'm pretty sure that you weren't the only person with the idea of sending items of this nature to Mark. He cant really be expected to resond to all the stuff that is handed to him in shows, or sent to his home. And the only person who is gonna know if he listened to the CD is Mark himself. Now, if he got the cd, i'm sure curiosity might cause him to throw it in the player, but a response from him is probably not something you wanna' wait around for. Willem, yes Level 42 did perform Hot Water, at the 1986 show I think? Or maybe it was another show. Go to www.forevernow.com for links to DVD editions of the Princes trust shows. I know that the 1986, 1987 and 1988 shows are available in the UK, and that the 1989 show is available in Japan. USA dvd owners be advised that the UK DVD's are ALL REGION discs, so they will play on your dvd players. David, yes World Machine was performed at the Jazz Cafe. Probably was dropped from the cd because we have all heard it a million times. However, I would not have minded hearing it on the cd, because they did a hell of a job playing it. And of course the fans were chanting the synth hits during the verses. Coolest thing about the chants is most of us were around for the birth of this chant. I know folks are always complaining about the ''whoa, whoa' chants of the early days, and some folks are always wondering where this thing got it's start. Well folks we know where the World Machine chant came from. I believe it was Adam Hankinson, Chris Dickman, and Glynn Willett during the One Man Tour. It really caught on by the Leicester show. It's hilarous to watch the video recording of the Wolverhampton show, and watch Mark's face when the audience belts out this chant. :-) I would imagine that this chant will continue as long as this tune is played. I hope it continues to get much more play, Forever... Bilal ------------------------------ Subject: Millennium CD From: "Richard Maybury" Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 19:32:22 -0000 Howdy Folks, I am due to receive this new CD in the next day or so. Please keep an eye on web page and I'll publish the details shortly. On a few matters, its good to see the return of Mrs Pink. Does anyone the following : 1. Why did MK sell Joe Daflos ? 2. When will Trash vol 2 be released ? 3. What was the setlist played by Mike in his recent gig ? 4. When is Mike's new album due out ? 5. Loz did you get my email about the Mike Lindup Brighton concert ? (If not email me....) 6. What's the meaning of everything...? (Easy one this is !!!!) Remember my story about the guy in my local Virgin records , who asked me to spell Level 42, well here's another one !!!! I was in a local PC store today with some of my friends and one asked to look at my website on a PC. So I happily typed in the address, showed him and then changed the page off my homepage. As I was walking out of the store I noticed one of the sales assistants reading my website about L42 !!! Wow, a lost L42 fan maybe ????? Finally, I still haven't been able to get hold of Bitter Moon on cassette single. My local HMV is having difficulty getting it. Is it still available ? Answers on a postcard please .... That's all folks...... This makes me smile... Hi my name is Jeff Thacher and I'm in Rockapella. Haven't posted in a long while. My biggest responsibility in the group is doing vocal percussion, fully amplified live, and many-layered on recordings. A lot of my v.perc.style is influenced by Mark King and Phil Gould.... We are coming out with our 2nd U.S. release on 3/28. Check out www.rockapella.com for more info. You can buy the CD in stores or at almost any online source. Most people know us either from the recent Folgers ads, the Mounds/Almond Joy radio ads, or from a 5-year stint on the U.S. PBS show "Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego?" on which we were the house band. I think this album (and the one before it!) would appeal to a lot of you all..... shameless plug.... --JT ------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Subject: B'day, Nokia From: Brian L Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 23:11:01 -0600 Got this emailed to me from musiciansfriend.com. I thought it would be the right time to flutter the dovecotes for a change ;-) My input for discussion: "Why does Mark never play any song from `Guaranteed' or `Forever now' these days? Because he he things they're rubbish as well." I'll be expecting your reactions! (Don't knock me off the Digest please...) GREEN\(SED\)) Date: Mon, 13 Mar 2000 08:58:50 +0000 I will say some words about Andy Sojka. From what you could put together from speaking to people who had met Andy you got the impression that he was a bit irascible. I first spoke to Andy when I wrote to him and asked him to do an interview for Word Machine and the truth was that he was nothing but polite on that occasion and the many other times I spoke with him. The reason I stayed in touch with him was mainly bacasue he did genuinely have an enormous interest in Level 42 and anyone who read the interviews I did with him saw the great depth of knowledge that he had about Level 42. I know that recently he had tried to contact Mark regarding regarding a proposal he had, I didn't find out the details. He had a VERY high impression of all the original 4 band members, and Wallly Badarou and John Gould. I for one, am thankful that Andy took the brave step of letting 4 very un-cool dudes release some of their extra-cool music on his label. L()Z ------------------------------ Subject: Princes Trust Material From: "Mike Brooks" Date: Sun, 12 Mar 2000 15:31:25 -0000 Hi all, To all those interested, the Princes Trust gigs from '86, '87 & '88 have been released by TDK on DVD and are now available from HMV in London. However, the '89 gig where the guys were the backing band has not been released. Ho hum........... Someone posted on yesterday's digest that they weren't sure what tracks the guys played over the gigs. Well, from '86 came Hot Water and Something About You. Only HW was included on the video whilst SAY was on the album of that years show. Mark played on half of the All Star Band set. John Illsley of Dire Straits did the first half. From '87 came RITF with Mike and Mark, then they were in the All Star Band for the whole of that set. There was also an album of this show. Nothing on the '88 show as the guys were working on Staring At The Sun. Then there was '89 where we got HIMH and LIL and a whole show of them as the backing band. The CD set that was mentioned has now become available in the UK and can be picked up in bargain bins at HMV, Virgin and Tower. This is a 3 CD set spanning all 4 gigs but unfortunately does not have HIMH or LIL from '89. There was a double CD set put out about ten years ago which was a compilation of '86 & '87. Hope this is of some use. Cheers, Mike
