How Low can U Go? From: "kevin mooneyy" Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 10:23:15 GMT It just occurred to me, I must be blind, otherwise I would have noticed the posting from Andrew Goodwin in Digest # 174 before. Piano enthusiasts eh? What string-gauge do you use on your piano? I'd be careful of this sort of heretical behaviour, as last time I mentioned the Digest could be a wee bit bass-heavy, I was run out of town like a common pygmy. Think I'll stick with my (t)rusty 6-string fer now as it doesn't necessitate gaffa-taping up various bits of my anatomy to address the beast... Trying to fit the social norm, Kev, the failed bass-player. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: AYGB From: alex bartman Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 11:35:42 +0100 please can someone in the UK help me get hold of a copy of "as years go by" - please email me if you can help directly!!! many thanks Alex Bartman alex_bartman @ bcl.co.uk ------------------------------ Subject: RE_ISSUES From: "" Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 11:46:46 GMT Got the Level 42/Early Tapes Re-Issue yesterday from my local HMV store in Cambrige....only £11.99 as well ! Fantastic !. They had them all in stock apart from Standing in the light/Persuit which I assumed they had sold in the morning before I got there but seems like there may be a problem with this one after reading Rich Maybury's post today. I am very impressed wiht the artwork/rare pictures/bio in the middle, and all those little notes next to the tracks..like ' First time on CD ' etc....Great also to see some digesters getting a mention on the back as well (Winston, Chris Dickman) and all the major web addresses. I heard a rumour that Polydor might re-release the Sun goes Down 98 again as SGD 2000 (or something like that)....anyone else heard this ??? Payne" Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 09:18:34 CDT WELL where to start, After receiving some e-mail from possible Non-UK attendees to the Britfest 2000, I have to say that choosing any date is almost impossible without excluding a significant group of people. If we have the fest on Novemeber 11th, you really won't have any North American digesters there, as stated before most NA's arrive on the early AM of November 12. Reason for thr 12th arrival, is most people have to work on Novemeber 10th, so Saturday the 11th was and is more viable and allows most people to conserve vacation days. Unlike the past 2 MK tours, most digesters have stayed a whole week and attended about 3-4 shows, i.e. "The Funky Bus Tour". This tour people are arriving at different times and either seeing the first two gigs or coming mid-week and seeing the last gigs in London. Also, this tour is starting on a Sunday and ending on a Thursday, which is different than before. Anyway I could keep this up but here is what I propose: Before every London gig, can we try like before, to meet at the World's End there across the street from the JC. Therefore giving some people a chance to meet people they maybe haven't met before. Then on Friday, November 17 in London we all meet up somewhere and have a group dinner and social event of some type, or move the Britfest to this date or the 18th, which will not allow the people who are going to the Fri/Sat MK gig at wherever to attend, alas most people are departing on the 19th. So this sort of lock in when we can do this....if anyone else has a better idea, then by all means please speak now or forever hold your piece.................. Mikey PS: This letter isn't to deny Phil Lee and Lisa Devlin the hard work they have already done to try to organise this, I now see the difficulty in trying to arrange a date that doesn't 'PISS' someone off. It is a shame that the Jazz Cafe wouldn't allow us access to one of MK gigs early in the day for all of us to have a fest there during Mark's soundcheck, ya ya, I know keep dreaming, they would probably charge us £10.00 a head and still take our cameras. :( Mind you a private Mark singalong would have been fun, just like Kareoke! ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2000 #182 From: "Mike Brooks" Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 15:28:46 +0100 >(Dunno if Nathan and Lyndon can play drums..) or the great stops in love >games, the break in hot water... Mike ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Ideas... From: "Phil Lee" Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2000 15:46:10 +0100 Hi Mikey, I think you have come to the conclusion that I arrived at last week. You can't keep everyone happy, primarily because the MK tour dates don't lend themselves to the ideal BF date. I also, felt that if we stick with the 11th for the BF, maybe someone could organise an informal gathering on the Friday 17th. At least this way, most people would be able to make it to one or other activity. Phil Lee plee @ imerge.co.uk tazmania @ bigwig.net >-----Original Message----- >From: M. These CD's seem to be few and far between. Like Richard pointed out, these CD's don't seem to be readily available at your local HMV or Our Price etc. I even looked, after I had a j= ob interview today, in both HMV and Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street, London and had problems. It's a bit like One Man all over again! HMV only had RITF/SATS and True Colours/World Machine (priced at =A311.99 each) and only one copy of each at that. When I went to the info counter, they said that they had ordered 10 copies of each re-issue CD which were due in in the next few days. Virgin had all of the re-issues (priced at =A312.99 each) except POA/SITL (which they've ordered 12 copies of and said that they would be in by the weekend). Does anybody know why the POA/SITL CD is not available yet? Having said all this though, the CD's are excellent. I've been lucky and hav= e been listening to the issues by obtaining them on CDR acetates for the last couple of weeks. The sound quality is so crisp, clean and clear. The packaging, photo's and album info are frist rate - the best I've seen on any Level product. Well down to Polydor and to Ian, Simon, Chris, Winston and Carl for their efforts in getting these released. One of the little perks of being a webmaster for one of the lads is the e-mail you get from all sorts of people. Today Larry Dunn (from EW&F) sent a message to me via his agent. The message was for Mark, Mike, Phil and Boon saying that he would like to work with them again if they felt like it. Also, do you remember the 80's hit Einstein-A-Go-Go by Landscape? Well if you do then did you also know that Chris Heaton who played keyboards did some production on some music that Boon was recording with his then girlfriend on vocals. According to Boon it was an illfated idea and a bit of a disaster, although Heaton did his best. Lars (waiting for the re-issues to surface in Sweden. I was told that that was early stock ! I then went across the road to HMV and asked . I was told that they are released but they would only get me one if I ordered it , approx 7 - 10 days ! What the hell is going on ? I live in a largish City.....I went to the stores that stupidly, I thought would stock it ( ok maybe not shelves full but a couple of each ) and do my bit for the Chart registers in hope and was almost laughed out the shop. Could the person who posted the details of the internet site that was promoting them please post me the link , so I may try there. The power of communication etc, etc, etc. Well, I liked some of the set lists, especially Mike's the other day. 2.5+ hours would be good, but what state would a master thumb be in after that! All those postings made me think and brought me back to reality. Some of the tracks will have to be played as part of traditional mix of near hits. The set list probably can't be changed that much from last year, but will evolve and be updated a little. The musicians probably won't have time to learn 8 or 9 new songs. Learning 3 or 4 is difficult enough, plus the possibility of 2 NEW tracks from T2. I do look forward to hearing a couple of old songs like Heathrow or anything else never played live before, perhaps with some rearrangment and jamming improv - yer never know what might happen if there is some freeedom and flexibity. Lastly, I have a dream. How about a one night special with Mark, Nathen and any of the Mike, Phil or Boon who could be persuaded to be in the same room for a one off. The one night special would relive the old stuff and resemble an UNPLUGGED theme, with a unique venue nr. or in London with limited seats. Die hard fans would be willing to pay a premium if the event was say only 75 or a max. of 100 in the audience. Perhaps, the band could do 2 one hour sets, with a nice 1 hour break in the middle to sit and talk to the audience, with pre-arranged questions (from the www site/sites). My dream ends, and return to a realistic dream of returning to the Jazz Cafe on a cold November evening to hear some great songs, played by a hero on bass, but putting up with half an hour of a "broken record" part of the set - argghhhhh! I can't stand the Chinese Way anymore, please don't do it. I make no apolgies for my ignorance to how great the bass line is. I don't play the bass - I just and will always love L42, MK and the music. I don't care about the size, colour, mass, density, make, year of manufacture, metal mix, can you play the bass in a submarine, who made them, who designed them, who tuned them, or whether Alta Vista/Tony Blair will effect Mark's golf, for Mark's bass strings. .
