I think the thing is with the famous songs is that they mean something to us for one reason or another cos these are the songs that were played on the radio etc. Sure we've heard them a million times before, but I for one am looking forward to putting my hand in the air and point at MK singing 'Livin It Up'! Saying that - it would be great to hear 43 live! Tino Martin Brindley, Account Executive, MCC International Ltd. Willem, he sang one line on the song, I think it was 'When I find myself in times of trouble'. He also got his picture on the cover of the 7" single sleeve, wearing the 'It's Over' brown suede / leather jacket he seemed surgically grafted to in the 1986-88 period. The single is buried deep in my collection somewhere at home. Matt ------------------------------ Subject: Lying Still and Love Games From: Greg Jamate Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 08:55:41 -0400 Hi folks, Winston had in interesting point about Lying Still "I like Lying Still as a song, great to listen to on the album, but I really have no desire to see it performed live". Many songs are produced well in the studio but even the original players do not interpret it live very well. For me in Lying Still, Phil's laid back groove makes the song. With Gary's natural style to play on top of the beat, it will be interesting to hear his interpretation. Not that I think Gary cannot play it, but his natural style doesn't lend itself to it. Another song - Love Games in Mark's live set: If Darren from Chicago is right you can just commit me to the Looney Bin! Come on Darren you can't get down on a person for liking a particular song, regardless how overplayed it might be. "Anybody who claims to get excited when they hear: Lessons in love, Chinese way, Love Games, Something About you, Sun Goes Down is crazy!!!!" Darren from Chicago I would be disappointed if I came away from a Mark gig without Love Games. It has been the most influential song on my bass playing ever. Mark could go on for 10, 12 , 20 minutes playing the different variations of it, and I'd be thrilled. I too have heard this high vocal line. I don't recall hearing it on the vinyl version, but when I first heard the track on CD I immediately noticed it. The reason why I try to be at the front is that I am only 5ft 3 inches tall and if someone tall (well they do not have to be that tall in my case) stands in front of me I see bugger all for the whole gig. I remember Ian Buck at the Town And Country club, many many years ago who was in front of me and to cap that not able to see anything he was jumping up and down like a pogo stick. Anyway who cares if I am at the front, I am that short that people can look over me anyway. All the best to the people to have attended the Mike Lindup appearances over the months. I don't want to nag or anything, but have you got the two e-mails I sent you at the mrspink @ lineone.net address? I sent one in early July and resent it in early August. Wow! I don't believe it. I heard Play Me on the radio this morning while having my breakfast. Unfortunately the presenter didn't say afterwards what he'd just been playing, so all those thousands of Estonians who choked on their muesli because of actually hearing something good on the radio for a change still don't know what it was. The Master Series has suddenly appeared in the shop where I asked about the reissues last week. Hope they don't think that's it. Isn't that impossible? Hmm. It was me by the way! I didn't actually *say* they sounded better and if you're a purist, yeah CD is the only way to do it. But us radio stations spend *so* much time tweaking our processing to make the songs sound 'great'. That means adjusting the sound of the station to suit the FM waveband, making things more punchy, bringing out the warm bass sound (UK digesters... just listen to Radio Two and compare it to Radio One... Two sounds MUCH 'warmer'). I'm no great expert but I work with the stuff everyday so it was just my ha'penny worth. The remasters AREN'T gonna sound the same on the radio as they do on your home stereo on CD... for better or for worse. /back on topic! I still need Feedback on the dates. Sat 10th Nov v Friday 17th Nov. I Like the Friday, because everyone will still be on a High from the Jazz Club gigs. It'll be worth the extra day off work! Just in case anyone got confused yesterday over the postings on the BritFest website, the official BritFest 2000 (BF2K) web site http://www.bigwig.net/tazmania is merely a temporary effort, and it shows ;-). Eventually it will move to Lisa Devlin's MK & L42 site http://www.starchild42.freeserve.co.uk/ at a date TBD. Please keep an eye on the BF2K website http://www.bigwig.net/tazmania as information on the Venue, Travel and Accommodation will be posted over the weekend. Hey, I still need some help and information on the following.... Are Level43 available to do a gig at the BritFest? Can one of you guys drop me an email? Are there any other cover/tribute bands out there who would like to play a set? For the Jam session, we'll need the muso's/sound engineer to bring along your instruments, amplification, microphones, equipment, etc.. Volunteers please step one pace forward.
