GREEN\(SED\)) Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 11:32:26 +0100 Hello all, Firstly - I am working on issue 4 of Word Machine everyone who is emailing me for info will have to be patient. I've just been on holiday to Cornwall - great to get away from it all (even if I didn't get away from 'er) Took down 6 albums, Trash, 1 man, Guaranteed, Tin Man, ForeverNow RES and Changes. Which got played most - 1 man, TinMan, FN, Changes, Trash, Guaranteed. My mate leant me a CD by Deacon Blue, it was a good CD. There is one song called 'Cover from the sky' I can recommend that song - it moved me - but not as much as 'swimming with sky'. So here come the re-issues and my, my we're all excited. Shame about the lack of extra stuff for A Physical Presence, thats my 1 gripe. The prices are amazing - I had resigned myself to paying at least 15 quid per CD, now I get 2 for 8 quid!!!!! I might tile my floor with them!!!!!! I am even more excited about Boons new CD out next month. And from the samples on boongould.com it sounds superb. So I urge you all, if the re-issues just leave you gasping for more, then turn to Boon and 'Love Kills Overtime' and if you don't think it's the greatest album ever I'll personnaly give you your money back and of course that last bit is a lie. Well done to everyone who voted on Mark-King.com, an amazing selection of tracks, lets hope Mark plays more than just 5 of them but particularly Lying Still will be such a treat. Love Games was the only one out of place really. I did have nightmares about the top 5 being Something About You, Lessons In Love, Love Games, Running In The Family and Hot Water. Gotta go L()Z ------------------------------ Subject: L42 Tribute Band gig... From: "Jason Bell" Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 11:50:42 BST Just wanted to let you all know that Jase Bell's Level 42 Tribute band went without a hitch. I loved every minute of it. Especially with the fact that I refused to sing in the house and made my lovely wife wait until the gig until she heard anything. Her face was a picture. Hot Water ROCKED - we based it on the Crystal Palace version. Some of York's seasoned musos were out there and looked a little stunned when we started with that one. Then straight in to ....... Something About You - Twas good, vocal could have been better. Love Games - By this time the bass players had arrived......... Chinese Way - Was easily my fave of the evening, we just got in to the swing of things. Very impressed with the other guys playing, they had a great time (oh and I sang the "my winkle reaches down to my knees" version and my wife laughed her head off) :o) Did anyone catch the web cam ? Not surprising really when you realize that not only was the room rather dark and loud, but the only person I was looking for was too shy to contact me herself so she had her sister do it. (Aucune offense, vous deux, j'ai pense qu'elle etait tres mignonne.) (Speaking of Forest Whittaker, just saw him in _Bird_ (Charlie Parker bio), and would highly recommend it.) The Da Lata show was very good. The Smallish venue was packed by the time the band came on. The audience was very responsive--the singer commented at one point that she wished all crowds were so good. Mike Lindup was, in case there is any doubt, very good. Some people may find it odd that Lindup is playing with a band so different from Level 42. As soon as Da Lata began playing, however, the similarity to L42 became obvious to me: both bands groove like there's no tomorrow! Mike disappeared after the show before I could play Geeky Stalker Fan and get him to autograph _Changes_ for me. Oh well, maybe next time. ...Alex... ------------------------------ Subject: Jazz Cafe Song - To be Heared or NOT? From: =?iso-8859-1?q?mar=20qing?= Date: Mon, 14 Aug 2000 15:56:11 +0100 (BST) Dear All Can't wait for the Jazz Cafe gigs. Along with everyone else, I voted for my favourite songs and was glad to see Lying Still at the top. I think LS is one of the bands most moving. Anyways, I would also like to put forward an idea, without trying to hurt anyone's feelings (including Mark & Co). I would like to propose that the gigs DO NOT include the songs that have been played to death, over and over again like: Chinese Way Something About You Hot Water Love Games Lessons In Love Sorry if this is tooooo controver-cee-al, but I can't handle standing through another half hour of those songs. Whilst we all love em, wouldn't be great to hear some different songs, never heard live before or from many years ago. Why not just play the top 12 songs that appear on www.mark-king.com, with a couple of the new ones (see below). Lastly, to calm any troubled waters, a secret source told me: "....we may hear some new material from Mark.. one or two songs that maybe featured on a new album, not Trash 2, something else; Traingle or Triumph were mentioned". I don't know how reliable that is. BUT, it certainly would be good to hear something new. I reached up my hand to touch her fa a a ace. Bye bye fore NOW. PS Look out for a promo cd from the forthcoming releases next week. ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I must admit to never knowing the story about 88 being the bus they used to travel on so that was an interesting 'revelation' especially as it is one of my favourite songs... I will now have visions of a bus, actually not sure if that is a good thing! ha! All the best Tino Martin Brindley, Account Executive, MCC International Ltd.
