Could they possibly provide copies to the other digesters as well? Thanks! Cheers... >>Byron _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html ------------------------------ Subject: Manchester gig From: "Willem en Kirsti" Date: Sat, 12 Aug 2000 16:26:33 +0200 As far as I know the gig in Manchester (02041987) is the only one that had a realy "big" problem; Mike couldnt sing that night because of a cold. ( an micro kid hasnt got the vocoder part in it !) So that night most vocal parts of Mike were done by Annie. That brings me to a question what is bugging me for a while.... Why didnt Annie sing a whole song, not specific on an album but live. Are there any other concerts that had such problems...(besides Mark splitting his thumb at Paradiso) If im correct there was something with a broken feet or so.. ------------------------------ Subject: fretless bass From: "Huge Rademaker" Date: Sat, 12 Aug 2000 22:52:35 +0200 hi all, as promised: I have just succesfully finished the work! I now own an Ibanez Roadstar Series II fretless bass. I'm very proud on the job I did. The sound's great! Anybody have any suggestions on the strings I should use? From: "Neil Cannings" Date: Sun, 13 Aug 2000 09:38:24 +0100 Hi there! My name is Neil, I live in Blackburn (2 - nil!!!) and I have been one of the three thousand-odd silent subscribers since last year. I was on the digest back in 1994/5 while at university and having recently got on-line again, I made sure to get up to speed with L42 goings on in the way this digest only can do. Forgive me for being yet another aspiring Mark King (I wonder what percentage of you all play bass?) who also has a go at playing piano, guitar, drums and a spot of singing. I have seen Level 42 only once (during the Forever Now tour at Leeds), but have subsequently seen Mark at the Mad About Music show at the NEC and later that day at Ronnie Scotts. It was fantastic to see him perform live again and my tickets are already booked for the show at Colne in November. See a ticket at: http://www.btinternet.com/~lammack/markking.htm As the details are not yet on the Mark King web site, the telephone no. is (01282) 661234 and the tickets are £14.50. Is anyone else on the digest going to that show? In reply to Mr. Brian Bacon, Shakatak are my joint favourite band (shock horror!) with you know who. As the both Level 42 and Shakatak were birthed in the same 'movement' at the start of the '80s, their sound was quite similar, but the emphasis was in one case on the technical bass player and in the other, the technical pianist. I think as time progressed, as Mr. Bacon said, there was pressure from Polydor in both cases to be more commercial and there are uncanny similarities in their time as labelmates (I won't bore you with details unless you beg me), Shakatak lasting as long as 1991 before being booted into minor-label recordings, of which they still produce regularly (seven albums in the '90s plus six re-issues). I have seen them perfrom live three times in the past three years (they are fantastic) and they have a very busy schedule with gigs around the world. See their website at: http://www.shakatak.com I wouldn't agree with Mr. Bacon when he says that everything post 1985 should be avoided, as I believe their best work was in the few years following that. It is true that their sound did become more jazzy and soulful after that time, distancing them somewhat from the more pop-oriented Level 42. I have a deep love for both groups, and the contrasting styles suit me as the mood takes me, 'different sides of the same coin' or something. In a letter I received from Bill Sharpe (Shak's Pianist) he said that he and Mark were good friends and that's how I view the two groups. Sorry if I have rambled too much. I'd love to hear from any other Shakatak fans on the digest privately. I have compiled a discography from my collection at: http://www.btinternet.com/~lammack/shakdisc.htm Anyway, I'll stick to L42 postings from now on. I'll make an effort to contribute my two-pence-worth as the need arises. See Ya! Neil
