Just heard this on the Mark Dennisons Retro Countdown on Sunday Morning. Mark King will be on the show, some time in August, to be decided. I presume this may be something to do with the re-releases. Anyway, I was listening to this show on Q103FM (Cambridge) which is a GWR station so I would guess this is one of those shows like the Chart Show that gets broadcast from every GWR station simultaneously. I'll listen to the show next week for more details... Also, now that the Tour dates are firming up for November and people are starting to sort out their accomodation and transport to the UK, we need to start thinking about this years BritFest, in particular when and where ? Ideas welcome.... Mike is a genius; I have rediscovered Brazilian jazz. And I finally got a chance (thanks to Bob) to meet Mike again (first time was in 1987) and tell him that his album, Changes, inspired my life. Also gave him my business card and offered to send him a Stevie Wonder box-set since I work at Motown Records, etc. I was so star-struck! I got a chance to meet fellow Digesters Winston, Bob and Lolita and pals. Thanks for the ride back to Jersey. I downloaded (legitimately) from MP3.com, some of Bassman Bill Evans' stuff from an album called "Bass Jams" which is incredible. It consists of bass riffs and licks as well as phenomenal slapping. Just thought I'd let you know. Cheers Norman www.dalata.zzn.com ------------------------------ Subject: Lying still and trying to sing! From: Mysterio71 @ aol.com Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2000 13:51:02 EDT Fellow Level fans, I thank you for your part in electing "Lying Still" to the top of the list. This indeed has always been a favorite L42 tune of mine, and evidently one of yours as well. It will be fantastic to hear it played live, or SEE it played live for all of you lucky bastards who get to go!!! Here's a question, is Mark actually going to see this list? Is someone going to tell him about it? How does this whole thing work? I forget. About the Re-issues, I do hope to see them arrive in America. Like Angela mentioned in yesterday's digest, I have learned that none of the common music stores are expecting any arrivals from...who's that again? Level 42? Never heard of them!!!! Oh yeah...and Angela, POSTERS would be A WESOME!!!!!!! If anyone out there is in connection with Polydor or Crockford, let's talk POSTERS!!!! I'm sick and tired of walking around college dorms and seeing nothing but Dave Matthews Posters......it's time these spoiled, drugged up brats learned music on another level...Level 42 that is! Don't get me wrong, I'm sure Matthews is talented....but he is monopolizing the poster industry in America's colleges. It's time we acknowledge that Dave Matthews is violating Anti-Trust laws!!! Level 42 posters should be proposed and realized to add competition, to reaffirm the capitalism!!! One more thing, for you bassists out there.....how come I can't play bass and SING at the same time???? I don't get it....I'm a pretty decent singer, and I am not the worst at bass.....but I can't do both!!!!! What the hell. This is where Mark amazes me......no....it pisses me off!!! Help!!! Ok...I added my two pennies for the week.....take care folks...and may the Level always be with you! Remember last year: Mark was pissed-off at the JC management on the Friday night of the final show because they wouldn't let his daughter Marley in. Mark's parents were going to sit upstairs with her, but they wouldn't allow it. It was suggested that his anger at the club was the reason he didn't hang around to meet 'n' greet. Don't expect the Jazz Cafe to do anything nice...ever. They have that too-cool we're-a-London-club attitude. Of course, they aren't in a posh part of London, and the black clothing and shaved heads of the staffers doesn't make them as cool as they think they are. But they're assholes just the same, and we have no choice but to tolerate them, since Mark insists on playing there. Peace - Don Z. ------------------------------ Subject: Afrikaans From: "Mr C.A. At this time Polydor only has a release date for the UK and Europe. The release date for the US and Japan has not yet been set. I know, dont say it, but these things happen. More info forthcoming, when we get it. However, you can still get the re-issues from a good import store in your local area, or from one of the MANY online retailers. I've listed some of the below: www.hmv.co.uk HMV currently has them listed for 9.99 gbp each, which comes to about $16.50 for each double CD set. While this may seem expensive, here in NYC most new cd's cost @17.99 for a SINGLE disc, so getting a 2 disc, remastered set is not a bad price at all. www.amazon.co.uk also has them listed at 9.99 gbp each www.cdzone.co.uk has them listed for 10.45 gbp www.towereurope.com - listed as 11.99 gbp Again, sorry for the bad news, but the discs can still be had for a fair price, and I dont think they will be much cheaper when they are finally released in the US and Japan. Well, a few of us got together for the Da Lata show at Joe's Pub last nite. Late show, which started at 11:30pm. Bob C and Greg Jamte arrived early, and had coffee with a certain Mr. Lindup, so hopefully they will let us in on all the questions they threw at him. :-) The following folks attended, Greg Jamate, Bob C, Viv Gill, Lolita, Laure Grandpierre (and 2 friends), Dan James, and myself. We were also joined by Jennifer, another local digest member, who we all met for the first time that evening. Venue was very small and intimate, with sky high drink prices. We were able to sit directly to the right of Lindups keyboard rig, which consisted of a rented Prophet 5, Rhodes Piano, and Korg Triton. This gig was even better than the Central Park show, because the crowd was there only to see Da Lata, and the place was packed with folks dancing, and having a ball. The band was able to play more songs, and really jam and do extended solos and grooves on the songs they previously played in the park. It was really great to hear Mike singing and playing some cool solos on his vintage equipment. He seemed to really be enjoying it, and the crowd was VERY appreciative when he was introduced. Some of us had a short chat with him before and after the gig, so that was cool. And that was the evening. Do try and check the band out if they come to your town, because they are really great. take care, Winston ------------------------------ Subject: Mark King/Jonas Hellborg From: Byron Wong Date: Mon, 7 Aug 2000 15:48:12 -0700 (PDT) Hi Y'all! Listening to the MK/JH jam session and really funky/groovy it is! Anyone know when it was done and where? Sounds like maybe the late 80's or early 90's? I think I can discern which parts are MK's and which parts are JH's. Cheers... >>Byron _______________________________________________________ Say Bye to Slow Internet! http://www.home.com/xinbox/signup.html
