Alex Humphries ------------------------------ Subject: Slave From: "Fotos, Asha" Date: Fri, 4 Aug 2000 07:00:21 -0400 Slave is definitely one of those groups of which that I remember the songs from early childhood. The debut album at the site was a cover I remember among my mother's record collection. She would let me look at her records as she flipped through them. It makes me happy to see that through CD remastering, these old records can come back to life! I just wish they would release the other two Slave albums that I was able to find as a teenager but were destroyed by my brother in the early RAP era. Record "scratching"---what a travesty to vinyl discs. Who can forget songs "The Party Song" or "The Way You Love Is Heaven"? Has anyone seen these on CD anywhere? ------------------------------ Subject: MK promoting re-issues From: John Osborne Date: Fri, 4 Aug 2000 13:48:02 +0100 Hi there Sorry if this info is out there already, but I've just heard that Mark might be doing a load of promotional stuff for the re-issues around the release date and possibly the week after. It's quite likely that he'll be doing a load of local radio interviews from London. I'll post info more when I have more news. John This e-mail, and any attachment, is confidential. Lolita, Paul Hammond, Boon, and Jakko! From: "M. Payne" Date: Fri, 04 Aug 2000 10:38:16 CDT Firstly, the Texas Levelfest dates ARE confirmed, a couple of people have written me saying that they heard it was cancelled due to MK tour, I would have thought with my many weekly postings of the dates and info that it would have made it clear. AND no members of Level 42 will be here, much to our dismay! I am working on getting T-shirts made though for the participants this year, designs would be appreciated from any digest member! Fact, Dominic Miller did play on the last Backstreet Boys album, one track only. Lolita, GREAT NEWS about you on MSNBC (will tape it for viewing, next to your Wheel of Fortune stint), although I wish the topic was more interesting than a review of THE NEW KID OF THE ELEPHANT PARTY SPEECH, sorry I tried to be non-partisan. Paul Hammond, are the results from the suggested tracks complete, just curious what the the top 5 tracks were, any hints? Boon, Love Kills Overtime title sounds like a violent thrasher song, threatining the Guranteed track of that name, any resentment there, perhaps? Can't wait to hear it though. I haven't been able to get into Boon's stuff, I did try to appreciate Tinman, but just couldn't. Before I get flamed, let me say that I respect his strong ability to play the guitar and write/compose music, but his style just doesn't do anything for me. Jakko, if you are reading this (or if anybody else knows) did Mark ask you to play in the next tour or do you have other commitments during that time, as I must say that Nathan playing is GREAT, but the double guitars on the last tour was FAB, but shall miss your shirts as well. Leaving Me Now, if played, will never be the same again! Have a GREAT weekend everybody! :) Mikey ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Mike Lindup Recording.. Funny you should ask - was gonna sit down and collate the results tonight and put up a "results as of today" page later on!! It has been a nightmare because I allowed you lot to enter free text, so I have had trouble keeping up with the collation! At last count, over 120 DIFFERENT songs had been requested(!) but there are a definite top 10 of clear winners. Will post when I have done it! Don't forget, it is still ongoing, but I am looking for duplicate voting, so beware! Bass regards, PH ------------------------------ Subject: 16 BIT 24 BIT From: EMIKATIE @ aol.com Date: Fri, 4 Aug 2000 12:00:35 EDT Scroll down if you are bored with the "bit" isssue. My Toshiba DVD player touts HDCD Decoder as well as 24 bit PCM Audio. I have no idea what both of those are other than the players abilty to play or decode these sources. I believe my CD player mentions it is a 20 bit device. Now my question is, if my player is capable of 24 bit and the remasters are 24 bit, will I derive any benefits from my player? Might they sound better than my "normal" 20 bit CD player? The machine stops, John ------------------------------ Subject: MK and JH (and GH) From: L-O Larsson Date: Fri, 04 Aug 2000 18:59:20 +0200 Well, wouldn't you know it. The file I wrote about yesterday was MP3'd by no other than our own Winman. I hadn't seen any mention on the digest about it's existance but now you know about it. For those with trouble transcribing the url for the file I'll send the address again from this e-mail account. When I send from the other one all my periods turn into =2E's which of course can be devastating in url's. Also Gary Husband replied to an e-mail I sent him and informed me that he will not be touring with Allan Holdsworth anymore this year. I asked because AH is playing in Stockholm in October. Somebody else will be drumming then... So if AH is coming to your home town this fall Gary will not play the drums. Lars ------------------------------ Subject: Re: [ILF] Levelfest, Dominic Miller. From: "Alex Humphries" Date: Sat, 5 Aug 2000 02:21:26 +0100 A couple of points I'd like to raise, Firstly, I've updated my site, (well, I've added the song forty-two live!). Go to it at www.level-42.co.uk Secondly, I saw the point about napster, with the saterday night thing. I also got of Napster, a file called 'Mark King - Bass Instructions', and 'Return Of the handsom Rugged Man', and 'Are you Hearing - Live at Rockpalast 1983'. Tell me where to buy them then!! (Other than Return of the handsom man.)
