From: "M. Payne" Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2000 11:59:37 CDT Hello ALL! Well I am still on holiday in Southern Maryland, USA and enjoying every minute. I had my bushel of crabs, even remembered how to clean them to eat! :) Also, had some scrapple for breakfast yesterday, GREAT STUFF! I am flying off to Tulsa in a few hours and will return to Texas on late Tuesday night! Well, again it is nice to know that when a L42 album(s) release dates come around that (like the old days) the dates keep changing and the countries that it is supposed to be released in keep changing! So basically these albums are going to be released only in Poland on the 7th of September? Well, what I would like to know is if it is released here in the USA (which I highly doubt) is it going to be in the Domestic or Import sections, and the question of the hour, on which date is it 'supposed' to be released? I appreciate the info from the crowd "in-the-know", as it helps sift through all of the contradicting information that seems to always happen when Polydor releases anything L42, are we sure Dave Munns no longer works there? Best and Kind Regards, Mikey42 ------------------------------------------------------------ TEXAS ROUND-UP 6 LEVEL42 FEST Dallas/Ft. Bootleg CDs of L42 live performances such as Crystal Palace and Hammersmith Odeon. 2. Promo CDs of the new remasters I have been collecting 42 and related stuff from record fairs in the North West of the UK and I have never seen any of this stuff. I assume these must be on sale in the London area or elsewhere. can anyone shed any light on this or even provide me with a contact who sells this stuff ? Also, can anyone recommend any good websites that sell L42 promo stuff ? Lately I am finding it pretty difficult trying to get hold of any L42 stuff from record fairs at all, let alone rare stuff ? Answers on a postcard please... P.S. Fiona - I got your check but mislaid your email address. Thanks for the cheque - I hoped you like the vids... P.P.S. Loz when is Word Machine coming out ? I really don't know what these things are worth these days, so where I can I've had a look at a rip-off site like Vinyl Tap and knocked off 50% of what they're asking. If I'm hopelessly under or overcharging I'm sure nobody will be shy in letting me know, but they're only suggestions anyway - make me an offer. A Physical Presence 12" EP POSPX 746 Both sleeve and vinyl in excellent shape (8-10 GBP) Love Meeting Love 12" POSPX 170 A few very minor bits of surface crackle, mostly excellent (6-8 GBP?) (Flying On The) Wings Of Love/Wings Of Love 12" POSPX 200 Sleeve a bit grubby after nearly 20 years, vinyl darn near immaculate (6-8 GBP) Guaranteed 12" promo LEVEL 2 Plain sleeve, vinyl excellent (3-4 GBP?) Guaranteed 12" one-sided 12" promo LEVEL 1 Plain sleeve, vinyl a few surface marks which affect playback a little on the intro but not thereafter (3-4 GBP?) I Sleep On My Heart/Leaving Me Now/Dream Crazy 12" POSPX 776 Sleeve and vinyl both excellent (3 GBP) Love In A Peaceful World CD single The issue with LMN/IO/TAL (2-3 GBP) Overtime CD single (2-3 GBP) Poster which came free with some issued of Something About You (no idea on price). Featuring four remarkable individual portraits (Boon looking coolly across from his driver's seat, Mark in his lovely orange tartan suit, Mike looking soulfully into the eyes of the woman in the video whom nobody on this Digest has ever been able to identify, Phil standing behind said woman in identical pose like a very poor doppelganger) and one deeply hideous band picture wherein they're all flashing, coats akimbo, in a woefully camp fashion. Hard to say who looks most embarrassed in this picture, although it's between Mike's grimace and Boon's numb horror. Any offers in the next couple of days please before they head to eBay. If there are multiple bidders it will go to the first or highest, whichever applies. From: "Nick Smith" Date: Sun, 30 Jul 2000 13:13:45 PDT Allo! This is for Mike Brooks - Mike, if I had loads of money I would gladly give you a bass, as it is, the current `tone' of my financial situation is perhaps more akin to a wasp farting in a very large jam jar!!!! However, my collection now numbers 40 basses....! As regards the string situation (ahem!) - I played last nite with a soul band thru half my usual rig (due to the fact that the stage/podium would not fit a 9 piece band and my humble rig!!) and was told by good friends at the back of the hall that my bottom end (ooer!) was causing the floor to shift! This was using an SWR SM-400s, a 1 X 15" and a Triad cab (1 X 15", 1 X 10" and a bullet horn!) - AND I was not thru the PA....and of course, I was using 30 gauge strings! So for me personally, I have found them to deliver the goods! As mentioned, the whole thing is personal - I love to get my Precision out now and again, which is strung with 105's - dig out the old plec and give it some welly, likewise, my Rickenbacker is strung in a similar fashion! What it boils down to is that we are, as bass players, very lucky in that there is a plethora of great players, instruments etc out there from which we can all benefit! For those of you who know me etc, you know that Mark is my favourite, but that does not mean that I want to just play that way, I love Chris Squire, he is different again, Geddy Lee, Sting, that chap from the Beatles etc etc - the list is endless.... Another thing which is again under debate is the role of the bassist - as far as I am concerned, as long as one plays in time and is in tune, then play whatever you feel is correct for the song - !!! This is Nick Smith for the Level 42 Digest, England, near Scotland! ...oooh to be ah...(Nick Beggs - another hero!) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: new Level 42 CD's From: Walter Franken Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2000 08:53:26 +0200 Hi, While on vacation in Ireland I raided all HMV and Virgin stores in my hunt for Leve 42 CD's. And I found 3 new ones. The most striking one is a German CD from Gamma Design with all hits. I've never seen this CD before. The other ones are the "Turn it on" CD from Spectrum, although with a different sleeve than the one I already had. The latest is the Universal Master Collection from Polydor, again with a different sleeve. To see the CD's and the sleeves, go to http://www.micro-kid.com/heroes/level42/latest/latest.htm.
