From: "Nick Smith" Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 04:09:24 PDT Allo! Having read Mike B's post, I have to say that I can see why Mark uses lighter strings and having just started to build basses (including a fretless model!) I really love the tone and bendability which is available using such a light gauge! I too used to swear by 40-100 but having used 30's for the last 6 months, I'm afraid I have to go down the lighter (and more `bendy')road! However, it all completely down to personal taste and of course depends on the way you play and what suits you best - I don't think Lemmy or JJ Burnel would go quite that light...! As regards the Wal Midi bass - the designer of that system (an Australian bass player/engineer called Steve Chick) ended up selling the rights to Peavey who of course used the system on their Cyberbass - hence the reason Wal ceased to produce that bass - I'm not sure of the exact number of units produced but it was one of the better Midi systems! If you want a really good synth bass effect, look out for the Korg G5 - I think they stopped producing it a couple of years ago - it has a bright silver `matte chrome' finish and lets you reproduce some really fat (or is that `phat'??!) Moog style tones! JayDee owners - are you aware that John has moved premises? Don't forget the bass clubs at Yahoo, we now have clubs for JayDee (obviously!), Status, Alembic, Wal, Ashley Pangborn, Overwater etc etc! - each club has links to many quality bass-related sites etc etc (I must slow down with all these etcs!). Nick (anyone else going to the Newark Palace Theatre gig???) ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Nightcatchers From: "Winston Walker" Date: Sun, 23 Jul 2000 08:20:40 -0400 Hey Pete, i have the same single ,and it is indeed Mark King producing. He did a bit of this and reminxing in the 80's. It's kind of a pop/r&B/funk tune. Not bad at all. I'd like to do a CDR trade, if possible... Also, in response to Joey Saylor's recnt post, in addition to being a huge Level 42 fan, I'm also heavily into Depeche Mode (I once got to meet two members of the band at a "surprise" appearance at The Edge nightclub in Palo Alto, CA) as well as Kraftwerk, and other "electronic" bands. LIAPW, Jason (and Sherry) Nuckels :-) PS. - My three choices for Mark King's set-list: 1. True Believers (awesome intro) 2. I Sleep On My Heart (I love the bridge on his song!) 3.
