Arthur A. Madonsela, @the Republic - South Africa. ------------------------------ Subject: Wally, ripoff, etc? From: Winston Walker Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 10:04:24 -0400 I've heard the rumour that Wally Badarou attended one of the Jazz-Cafe shows, but of course I never saw him. In fact, a few of the band members confirmed that he was NOT at the gigs, nor was Annie McCaig, which was also rumoured. Did anyone 'actually' see these folks, or did someone 'think' they saw them? Bob C point out this little tid bit on ebay to me. Good for a quick laugh i guess. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=386917150">Cl What exactly is a cd acetate? I've sure heard of a vinyl acetate, which usually is a test pressing of a record. A cd acetate is nothing more than a cd single. Someone is trying to be a bit sneaky with their descriptions, to jack up the price i guess. Why would anyone care for a tears for fears digest? I thought that band was broken up? Tavs, I doubt the Jazz Cafe would keep you out of the venue. Here in NYC, most clubs will let you attend with a 21 year old friend. I'm sure you wont have a problem, if you dont attempt to drink. Hope to see a few of you there..... Also Has anyone seen any printed advertising/promo for the reissues yet ? I thought we might have seen some magazine/newspaper stuff by now but so far nothing.......I have a feeling that with the right kind of push these reissues could potentially spark something special. Witness, if you dare, yesterday's submission: >Subject: Death Of A Salesman With a subject like this, we immediately know that something is wrong. Yes, _Salesman_ was turned into a movie--a rather good one at that--but it is primarily a stage play. Why would AG switch from movie titles to play titles? We could ponder this for years, but the sad fact remains: his mind has made an abrupt shift in thought pattern. >>From: William Burnett >> >>>Good call. Now you just sound like a tosser. >> >>Maybe, but I'm a young tosser. I'm a marketing board's dream >>demographic. > >Have you ever considered Willy? Another bad sign: AG resorting to "willy" jokes. Poor Will, tossing an easy line to AG, only to have it swatted back with such indignity. And then there's this: >(I have mentioned that I'm the illegitimate son of Kenneth Williams, >haven't I?) I'm sure in the deep dark recesses of the AG mind this is just gut-bustingly funny, but to the rest of us it is yet further evidence of the decline of the once-mighty AG wit. Oh, for shame! Somebody, anybody, please write in and say how hilarious you found AG's Williams line, and pretend you know what he's talking about. ********* Requisite L42 bit: I saw the second show after Boon quit the band. It was at Maple Leaf Gardens (a wretched old disaster of a venue, inexplicably listed as a historic site) in Toronto. Don't know who the guitarist was, but he had all of Boon's parts down cold. ...Alex... ------------------------------ Subject: CALLING STEVE DILLON From: "M. All this talking about fretless basses (and listening to `Seven Years' and `Lasso the Moon' and Jaco P. and etc...) has made me finally remove the frets out of my I-dunno-how-old Ibanez Roadstar II! The job's not finished yet (God, do I hate sanding!!!!), but progression has been made. bye for now Bass regards, Huge Rademaker Get your Free E-mail at http://www.level42.zzn.com ____________________________________________________________ Get your own Web-Based E-mail Service at http://www.zzn.com ------------------------------ Subject: Tears For Fears Digest (NL42C) From: "M. Payne" Date: Fri, 21 Jul 2000 16:55:13 CDT I would like to thank the people who have responded to my first effort of starting the Tears For Fears Digest, though only two days in the works, I suffered a HUGE problem with the email provider I was using englandmail.com, so I said I will use another to receive posting, so NOW use TFF_Digest @ hotmail.com for subscriptions/posting to this new digest! Thanks again, and I will see some of you on the other digest! Thanks, I'm so excited! :) Mikey PS: I contacted all of the major TFF websites and they are going to put a link to my digest, so we should see the number of subscribers grow quite alot! ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: From: "chris doney" Date: Sat, 22 Jul 2000 03:16:07 BST Hi Arie I dont know if they will play in Indonesia, but if they do, I'd be happy to go there to see the gig - can I stop at yours? I don't know if that means you can get in if there is a gig going on. I found this on the ticketmaster.co.uk. website and looked under the venue Jazz Cafe. It gave a little bit of info about the place and what they allow. Good luck!!! I hope you get to see them! Takes just one look to know I'm still mesmerised! I always liked PSB, Depeche Mode, OMD, New Order and the like and wondered if other Level 42 fans were into those groups like I was. Though lately about all I listen to is Level 42. I never get tired of their music. They blend all the best elements of music together: pop, jazz & a little funk. Like many of the great jazz musicians, their music will withstand the test of time. How sure are we that LTM was not played fretless? (The credits DO mention the usage of a Musicman bass and an Alembic). bye for now!!
