I used an 800ASA film so I didn't need to use the flash. The colours are so much better without flash as you tend to get wash out when you use flash for on stage shots. When is the next Mini fest? One near Birmingham would be handy. Keep funkin' Brian. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Level42 Digest V2000 #145 From: Clare Reeves Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 14:51:31 +0100 HI All... remember me? Haven't mailed for ages... if you don't get chance to read the digest for a while you don't like to mail in case you raise a point that someone mentioned last week and appear more foolish than necessary!! Anyway, hope you're all OK... wanted to express how pleased I am that Mark will be playing in November... but I have a question (something for Mark to bare in mind if he still reads this from time to time).. why can't we have some summer gigs? (I'm thinking Aug 4th '91!) The queue was FREEZING last year!!! Lisa H. and Don probably still have bad dreams about how scarey and egg-like I looked in my woolly hat!! I think we should take the Jazz Cafe Bouncers (or JCB's for short) some pressies this year to bribe them / distract them! lots of love Clare xxx Clare Reeves Studio Manager, Africa and Middle East Region World Service, BBC Resources This e-mail, and any attachment, is confidential. They played in a tent on the beach of Belgium, and were supported by Bloodhound gangm All Saints and Alanis Morissette. But of course the main act was DA LATA!!!!! We arrived early, so (again ) we (Christien and me) could also hear the soundcheck. After the soundcheck we had the oppurtunity to talk for a big while to Christian Franck, the guitar player of the band, and he actualy is realy a great guy (people who go to see them soon, say hi to him and Liliana). The gig itselves spreaded great vibes to the audience, the complete crowd was dancing.... Old times reunited!!!! Christien and I even recognised some pieces that definately were used in some L42 song, and some other songs could be used on L42 gigs. Andy Laforge (Bass) even did some slapping!!! After the gig Mike and some others from the band (with wich was great interaction during the gig) came and had serious time to talk to us, actualy Liliana spoke to us for about 15 minutes, signed my Da LAta book, and made us complete happy with a kiss (from a beatifull lady, that's allwayg great ;-) ) More cool info about Da Lata: musicians come from: Uruguai, Brazil (99), Portugal, England and Holland. Francois Kevorkian (mentioned accidentely last week) likes Da Lata a lot, and uses the songs in his club (Body & Soul, NY, USA) The first single Pra Manha was a big hit in JApanese Dance clubs... Patrick Forge (together with Christian Franck from Smoke City) is not a live member of the band, he produces... Well, after all, it was a great weekend (thursday till now, with 2 Da Lata gigs) Oh, right... to the guys who were with me in The Hague: Didn't I tell you I asked Mike to do a bit of Paixao on Saturday..... Well he did wign my Da Lata book : Paixao e Seducao (didn't mention it saturday, so he remembered!!!) Mike also signed my RITF 12" : Looking banck it's SO bizarre ML Well it sure is Mike, it sure is.... Thanks for reading Norman www.level42.zzn.com malle pietje (even Mike recognises it) PS Christien, thanx again for the great service and hospitality!!! xxx ------------------------------ Subject: Mike Lindup > PPF From: "Norman van den Wildenberg" Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 17:42:34 +0200 `Hi Levelheads, forgotten to say this: Spoke to Mike about the Post Pop federation... He told me he quit the band immediately, 'cos of Da Lata, so the 21st will not be a Mike Lindup gig. Mike didn't know if Post Pop Federation would cancel the concerts. Norman www.level42.zzn.com ------------------------------ Subject: Dune Tune/Stanley From: "Jay Krause" Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 14:34:00 +0100 I was listening to a song on the stanley clarke bass-ic collection compilation cd - one of the songs was really reminiscent of part of Level 42's Dune Tune. Can't remember the name off the top of my head. I know stanley was one of mark's heroes, did mark 'borrow' part of one of his songs?? Just curious. Bye! dale ------------------------------ Subject: Dennis Chambers From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 13:28:58 EDT > NIACIN. This trio consists of Sheehan, John Novello on keys, > and Dennis Chambers on drums. In a word this band is awesome. I saw Dennis Chambers with Steely Dan several years ago. He had replaced Peter Erskine as the tour's drummer, and he was most impressive. I think I'll be at this address for a while. I have two sets of questions. The first comes from listening to Guaranteed right now. I'm sure this question has been asked and answered many times, but I always forget just what the answer was. Which tracks on Guaranteed and its B-sides did Allan Holdsworth play? Specifically, did he play on "At This Great Distance" or not? The date of recording for this is "Summer 1991," which should have been after Holdsworth left. Also, on which tracks did Mark play guitar? I'm beginning to suspect that Mark played at least some of the guitar parts on nearly every track, and may have been responsible for all guitars on at least half of the 15 songs (including B-sides). My second set of questions has to do with the presence of blank CD-Rs that are specifically for audio recording. It seems to me that these came on the market only recently (like within the last year). They're about 3 times as expensive as the old CD-Rs. Is there any real difference (audio quality, durability, performance, etc.) between these? Is this to accomodate the growing market of CD creators that aren't part of a PC (and so the discs don't need to have data recording capabilities)? Or is there some other motive behind this? Thanks, Shuf ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2000 #145 From: Jujeraga @ aol.com Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 20:09:17 EDT fdisk your damn drive ------------------------------ Subject: SAY in Las Vegas From: JandSNuckels @ webtv.net (Jason & Sherry Nuckels) Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 18:49:41 -0700 (PDT) Hey y'all, I just got back from taking my wife and stepson to Las Vegas for a few days. On Saturday as we were buying some snacks in a shop at the Mandalay Bay Hotel, "Something About You" played on the speaker. :-) It was nice to hear, even though I brought MK's "Live at the Jazz Cafe" CD with me to listen to on the plane...just thought I'd share that with everyone. LIAPW, Jason (and Sherry) Nuckels :-) ------------------------------ Subject: Harmonics again. From: "Jason Bell" Date: Mon, 17 Jul 2000 08:18:57 BST >I wasn't aware that there were THAT many harmonics on one single >string. >Is that the same number on all four (or six, or eight, or >twelve, or >whatever number of strings they've gotten up to this >week!)? Do you also >agree that Mark's bassline on "The Chinese Way" >sounds much like Jaco's >bass from "Teen Town", or was that "Donna"? Ahhh Fred welcome back to "Bass Corner" ! There are 126 harmonics on each string, this works across four strings. There was an article in Bass Player magazine years ago but I can't remember which copy it was. "The Chinese Way" is very Jaco influenced (i have to admit that playing and singing at the same time has been tough with this one for me), I just love the way that all the chords of the other instruments leave this one big piece of music in the middle eight ("So many years ago, heroes ruled the world...."). As for "Love Games" the harmonics land in different sections depending on what version you have. But there is a break before it goes back in to the last verse and there is a harmonic nut bend there (it is over and above the bassline so it was multitracked in). Anyway, I'm boring the pants of everyone else so I'll shut up.
