Anyone else got this version ? I've always heard of what a good player he was. Recently I picked up a CD from his side project, NIACIN. This trio consists of Sheehan, John Novello on keys, and Dennis Chambers on drums. In a word this band is awesome. Serious funky jazz fusion grooves. They do a great cover of 'Birdland' with Sheehan carrying the melody. They also have a very cool live concert on DVD titled 'Blood, Sweat and Beers. Check it out, you might enjoy it. Norman, thanks for the info on the DaLata gig. Sounds like fun, cant wait till they arrive in NYC. tcoy, Win ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Level42 Digest V2000 #143 From: Martin Brindley Date: Fri, 14 Jul 2000 12:01:21 +0100 got my tickets! going on the Sunday! In reply to Christien talking about the bouncers, it is normal that photography isn't allowed at a concert, and for very good reason. It is distracting to the artist and people in the audience around you. Perhaps someone could liase with the venue or with Mark about taking 'official' photos for the fans so there is just the one camera there and then we can all order copies? joust a thought. My fave piece with harmonics in is still "Portrait Of Tracy" by Jaco Pastorius, but Michael Manring is a bit of a monster on the subject as well. :o) Thinking about it, Steve Bailey can do some pretty hot six string bass harmonic things as well - bit of a chord monster is Steve. I'll leave false harmonics for another day....... :o) Mark does some lovely harmonic things in Love Games, my fave technique is firing off a harmonic and bending the string behind the nut, raise it a tone. Try it with chords. Love Games and the intro to "She Can't Help Herself" use it nicely. Tapping Like it or loathe it, it's here, there and dare I say everywhere. The history of where and why is a bit shadey, the guitar tapping goes back in to the fifties but Emmett Chapman still shines out as a monster tapper (he taught Stanley Jordan for a while) and then invented the Chapman Stick to he could tap with two hands independently. As bass tapping goes then I would still go for Michael Manring. Victor Wooten shines out on this stuff, Bela Fleck albums are just awesome. Anyway, enough of my yakking..... Regards Jase >> And I've forgotten to mention Jaco and "Portrait Of Tracy"! I believe he did Beethoven's Fifth in all harmonics on some album, too. He's the prototype for all harmonics! I wasn't aware that there were THAT many harmonics on one single string. Is that the same number on all four (or six, or eight, or twelve, or whatever number of strings they've gotten up to this week!)? Do you also agree that Mark's bassline on "The Chinese Way" sounds much like Jaco's bass from "Teen Town", or was that "Donna"? Manring is fabulous, but I'd be hard-pressed to try and catch up with his abilities! And Victor Wooten is a trip on his bass! The Flecktones are alright, but I tend to tune the rest of the guys out and listen to Wooten. I'm a bass fan, after all. And I wasn't aware there WERE any harmonics on "Love Games". I've never really noticed at all. Guess I'd better listen a little more closely. Bass chord harmonics are simply so pretty! I could go on for days about harmonics, but I won't! I have 3 Level 42 CD Video singles which have audio tracks and 1 video track according to the sleeves. I recall years ago you needed a special "CD Video" player to view the video but with today's technology and wiz-bang computers I'd love to know if there is another way of viewing these tracks. I'd appreciate any help. Thks
