Thank you ------------------------------ Subject: My vote From: "ztavendl" Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 14:22:31 +0100 Hi levelheads, my three songs are: 1) The Sleepwalkers 2) The Machine stops 3) Last chance (or good man in a storm, or world machine, or sandstorm, or almost there, or weave your spell, etc.etc.etc.etc!) Tavs the tiny bass player ------------------------------ Subject: Forever Now on tour From: "Jackson, Lolita" Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 09:51:09 -0400 It would surprise me if he chose any songs from Forever Now to do on this tour, as he doesn't seem to be very keen on them [neither the One Man or Jazz Cafe gigs featured one Level 42 song recorded past 1988 as I recall]. Also, they aren't as demanding bass-wise as the earlier stuff, and he probably wants to show his stuff. I think he is now getting a kick out of playing the older tunes [pre-RITF] and will be most likely to pick oldies from that era, since he probably hasn't played some of them in 15 years. This is not to say that he shouldn't - simply, he probably _won't_ choose anything from SATS, Guaranteed or Forever Now. What do you guys think? It is from this standpoint, therefore, that I propose that the Digest officially adopts the harassment section of my company’s code of internet practice as promulgated yesterday. Therein it states that web services will not be used to harass an individual “because of that person’s race, color, religion, age, sex, creed, national origin, ancestry, marital status, familial status, affectional or sexual orientation, disability, military eligibility or veteran status.” ‘Creed’, for any of you wondering if there might be anything left not covered by this, is defined as “any statement or system of beliefs or principles”. So why don’t we all adopt this policy, and then we can live as one blissful amorphous blancmange. Sandstorm Hours by the window I hope someone of you will be able to hear 'em all :))) bye!! -- ----------------- Silvia Cara, CCNA ICQ #27395959 SETI @ Home member http://www.setiathome.com ------------------------------ Subject: Mark's tour From: Mysterio71 @ aol.com Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 15:13:21 EDT Level-friends, I've been seeing some awesome recomendations for Mark's tour: I think a popular vote we've all been seeing lately is "Lying Still," and I agree that this killer ballad needs to be heard live. What an awesome tune! I hope Mark gives it some consideration. A lot of World Machine and early stuff are good to choose from, like Dream Crazy and The Machine Stops. Does anyone know what the band will be comprised of? Will Gary and Jakko be at it again? No matter, I'm sure it will be a blast. Here's a quick question for you bassists out there: If any of you have seen the Night of the Proms performance by Mark....you'll notice that the one night, during the beginning of one of his bass solos (you know, where he gets the crowd to join and say "Hey!"), he does this weird tap thing to the first two strings, making a "keyboard-like" sound. Does anyone know what I am talking about? Well, if you do, I'd appreciatie your knowledge on how the hell he does that, cos I've tried and it sounds nothing like it! Thank you. Also, did I forget to mention that I will most probably be missing Mark's tour by less than a month? That's right, you heard me, I'm going to England in October!!! Blast! Curses! Take care all! Tim Wojton Pittsburgh, PA "Just move along, keep moving on, silver to gold...follow me!" ------------------------------ Subject: 3 songs From: "Ronald Kuipers" Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 22:49:21 +0200 Altough I probebly will not be at the concerts, only if Mark comes to Holland/Belgium, I voted for the following songs. 1. Freedom someday 2. Lying still 3. At this great distance I was in a real back to the old stuff mood, but I didn't know Sleep on my heart was never played live than it would have been on the no. 2 place. Freedom someday stays my absolut no.1. Also, apologies to the guy, (can't remember his name, sorry) who was going to do me a copy of the 'play at home' video too. I do still want these ok however I have a problem??? At present, I am in the process of moving house, and obviously don't want things arriving here after I'm gone, if that makes sense!!! I am, believe it or not, moving to the IOW. It's something the wife and I have always wanted to do, and as she recently lost her job, we decided, what the hell, let's do it. (Incidentally, don't shop at Fraser Hart Jewellers o.k. We're not bitter..............much!!!!!) As soon as we have moved and are settled in, I will mail the persons in question, and hope that they are still willing to do me the copies. GREAT NEWS about the up and coming MK gigs, can't wait. Should be on the IOW, so hope he plays there too!!!!! Not long to go for the re's. Does anyone know the ACTUAL release dates in August????? Anyway, better go, lot's of packing to do..................... Cheers, Dave Remember, drum stop very bad, very bad!! ------------------------------ Subject: Way Chinese From: BHConrad @ aol.com Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 18:28:05 EDT I've voted for Mark King to play "The Chinese Way" at least 2-3 times in every concert :) btw, a local news story here reported about some folks that only knew each other from a web site (www.afrikaans.com or something like that) and came to Boston to meet each other. Fascinating! If only they would have covered the many Levelfests that we've had...that's rather old news :) At least I don't feel as 'weird' for having attended some of them... Anyone else agree? Just wandered............ Mark Summers >> Well, "My Father's Shoes" is nice, but a little depressing. I think "Overtime" is the best tune on that album, but as for the album as a whole, I was very disappointed. You know, Mark played the fretless on "Overtime". Wish they had jammed and rocked more on that album. Oh well... Anyone know any Welsh? (Warning: Non-Level 42 content) I just got Mwng by the Super Furries. Cool CD, but my Welsh ain't up to par yet. Sounds almost like a twisted version of Level 42 with extra feedback. Fred, The Two-Bit Bassist ------------------------------ Subject: pirate tape--fender bass From: level43 @ juno.com Date: Fri, 07 Jul 2000 23:54:19 EDT I can't believe I heard someone say that ' I Sleep On My Heart ' is one of L42's best songs --- ABSOLUTELY Tim, I'm with you, that is their best song--cool off everyone, it's just my personal favourite--my opinion . . . . It would be nice to hear it live but it will never be as good as it could without the original four. I would like to unload two personal experiences related to past discussions. 1. In 1985, I lived in SE Asia and bought a pirate tape for a dollar of an unknown (to me) band with an interesting cover. It was World Machine. That tape led me to buy multiple copies of every cd and video of L42 I could find. Even if L42 had extensive radio play, I never would have discovered them without that pirate tape. I'm glad Mark has my money but with all of this talk about royalties, shouldn't I get a royalty rebate for the backup copies that I bought? (just a point for argument's sake) Of course I wouldn't need backups if L42 CDs were always in print. 2. I bought a mexican fender precision. Construction is good overall but the pickups don't have any high end and were difficult to adjust--it didn't take much to strip the head of the adjustment screw. the bridge is cheap and not earthed (grounded) to the output jack so I had to run a little external wire (so hum is reduced when the strings are touched) . (I'm determined to get a jaydee) Thank you gromit (Mike) for the CDs! Thank you Pascal for the bass solos!
