AH! ------------------------------ Subject: The DUTCH Conspiracy From: "M. Payne" Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 08:50:26 CDT Hey my friendly DUTCH levelheads, How bout' some English subtitles please, besides admitting that Math was my weak subject, Dutch was a close second, much less any other foreign languages. I, or maybe we, would like to know what ideas/comments you post, you see we care what you have to say, but now I can only guess, and you can ask Carl Mueller how well I can translate Dutch! Mucho Gracias' Mikey42 PS: This is not to flame anyone who may post in other languages and not put English subtitles as I know that this digest is an International Forum for Level42/etc., but if you can post some English phrases in your post, could you? It would be nice if everybody (like my good friend Phillip) could speak 6 languages fluently, but there will be peace in the Middle East and Castro will be only a distric in San Fran before this happens. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Aria Pro II basses From: "Alessandro Maccari" Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 07:40:27 PDT I can confirm. From: Mysterio71 @ aol.com Date: Thu, 6 Jul 2000 12:53:07 EDT Level-heads, I got a funky idea: Who else besides me loves the song, "I Sleep on my Heart"? It is one of my favorites, it's funk-jazz is uncanny. Sadly, it was never played live. Now, I know you are all going to laugh at me, but I wonder what would happen if we all went to Mark's web page, and voted to hear "I Sleep" on the upcoming tour? Pretty sneaky huh...I knew we'd get this guy to play that song live before it was all over. Whataya say guys...you in? My 3 Votes for the tour: 1) I Sleep On My Heart 2) Tired of Waiting 3) The Sunbed Song Your 42-friend, Tim Wojton P.S. Funny how I am actually taking a trip to England this October and will sadly miss the tour by less than a month! Well, you can designate messages from specific mailboxes as not being spam, and then you'll get them. The feature isn't really new, it's been around for at least six months now, and frankly, I think it's great. First good idea out of Redmond in ages. I don't use my hotmail account for much though. ------------------------------ Subject: Howard The Duck From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Thu, 06 Jul 2000 22:52:53 BST >Subject: looking for new chords >From: "esteban iturra" > >It would be so useful to me if someone who plays keyboard Keyboard? "Keyboard"? Is that some model of bass guitar? >Subject: Hojo >From: "Winston Walker" > >Howard Jones will be playing a special guest slot... >tickets are only available on the door and cost just £5. Ooh, the cyclical nature of fame and other pseudo-mystical mumbo jumbo. Must be 18 years since I paid about a fiver to get in to see Howard Jones in a little club where tickets were only available on the door. Not long after came the hits, the teen fandom, the slot at Live Aid...and now he's gone full circle. Fortunately I can't claim the same, the horrors of the fashion catastrophe I was at 14 having long been banished to the bottom draw of my psyche, behind that pile of memories about George Benson. >The Nokia Night Of The Proms tours with an >80 piece orchestra and 50 piece choir across central Europe Presumably performing symphonic arrangements of irritating 15 second ringtones. For some performances I hear they will be accompanied by a 30 strong dance troup, who rifle through their pockets frantically during each tune. >The show will also feature several other major artists. You appear to have accidentally included the word "other" in this sentence. In message <20000704100002.28125.qmail @ mail.worldmachine.com>, Level42 Digest writes >Does anyone know what to expect in terms of promo stiff for the re-issues ? That is exactly what I expect. Re: Aria ProII Basses, I used one for several years, and I was perfectly happy with it. It's an old workhorse, nothing too sophisticated, but for 250 quid it was a reliable and remarkably flexible sounding bass, I remember playing support to a guy with an Alembic who was very jealous of the tone I was getting. Whoever was looking for that Manu Katche CD, it's called It's About Time. Cheesy title for a drummers album, but, surprisingly it turns out to be a thoroughly restrained pop/soul effort, not a million miles from Lindup's Changes. It's stuffed with contributions from Lindup's cohorts - Dominic Miller & Pino Palladino, so that's no surprise, and all the lyrics are co-written by Tom Robinson who's former guitarist was of course Jakko Jaczyk. Now, lets face it, you couldn't get more Level if you used a Theodolite. Now, when I got it, it was on a French label, Sacre who are, or were anyway, distributed in the U.K. by BMG, so I don't think it was a Japan only release. And since it's come up, I'll once again repeat my assertion that The Wild Wild Sea from Sting's The Soul Cages as performed by Manu is simply the finest kit drum performance committed to tape in the last 100 years. The Machine Stops simply has such a killer bassline that it needs to see the light of day. I also wouldn't mind hearing another instrumental such as Return of the Handsome Rugged Man or 43, but I think he is more likely to choose obscure songs with vocals than obscure instrumentals, so I was fairly pragmatic with my choices and picked songs he is actually likely to consider. Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: Jazz Cafe Last night From: Date: Fri, 7 Jul 2000 09:09:48 +0100 I went to the Jazz Cafe last night and saw Sidestepper and Da Lata. Both bands were excellent. Mike Lindup was on fine form playing some very creative keyboard breaks. The music from both bands was Latin / Salsa and everyone in the audience seemed to really warm to it. There was a lot of dancing going on. Both bands have CDs and double vinyl albums. Da Lata are definitely worth taking the trouble to see !! they are playing in the UK several more times this year including the Barbican, Jazz Cafe, Guildford live and Reading Festivals. Andy
