I have a friend who has a friend etc, etc who knows Nik personally and has a tape that Nik sent him many years ago saying that he had an idea for a song which he went on to sing on the tape, it was wouldn't it be good. I know how excited I would be if Mark King for instance has sent me a tape of an early L42 track. This must be a really treasured item of memrabilia. (roll on the re-releases.) What about a comeback tour to co-incide wih them??? Jim ------------------------------ Subject: Guaranteed... From: "M. Payne" Date: Mon, 03 Jul 2000 08:53:50 CDT Hello again Friends.... 20 years since L42 firsty debut single....WOW, now I do feel old! Well, if you are one of the 'saps' that have to work today (for those in the USA) like me, try to have a GREAT DAY, while everybody else is off at the lake, or the like.... I was listening (during a long drive in my NEW car) the entire album of Guaranteed. I have to say that it wasn't given a fair chance, by the record company, nor the general public. RCA seemed to have rushed three singles by everyone and the videos are not even available for purchase. It almost seems like people are trying to forget this album. Mark and Mike haven't played any tracks off of that album since the Guaranteed Tour. The album wasn't that bad! Guaranteed, Overtime, Set Me Up, A Kinder Eye, and Seven Years really highlight this offering back in 1991. Although the club remixes (i. e. the Lorimer Overtime mixes) really sucked, the Guaranteed Wheel Spin Mix really had a chance to succeed. For me this album is really special, as I received it in advance of its release from a nice lady at RCA. I was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia during the Gulf War and she sent it to me along with 20 other cassettes of various promos and artists, the Guaranteed tape wasn't even the official RCA tape, it was made through their mass-promo office with the tracks typed on a paper sleeve. Basically, what I am trying to say that if you haven't heard this album. or haven't listened to it for ages, why don't you give it a listen and see what I mean! Best and Kind Regards, Mikey42 ------------------------------------------------------------ TEXAS ROUND-UP 6 LEVEL42 FEST Dallas/Ft. He was a big influence to me when I started drumming and I think he's marvellous. His drumming on Mike Lindups' "Changes" makes it the great album it is. Oh how I love "Changes", "Lovely Day" and "The Spirit Is Free". >> Just a note: I think Manu was on Sting's brilliant Soul Cages album. You might want to pick it up. Terri H. ------------------------------ Subject: Nature against Two From: EMIKATIE @ aol.com Date: Mon, 3 Jul 2000 17:43:36 EDT NON-LEVEL 42 POST TO FOLLOW (AG - this is safe to read - honest) So as not to reveal any of the plot to the current Steely Dan tour, I won't mention any of the songs or even comment on the content or players or banter between Donald and Walter. In fact, the only thing I will say is that I attended the Toronto show last Tuesday night unsuccessfully scanning the seats for a glimpse of Alex F. Just my luck, a well-groomed, uniformed college student teen ager with her back to the stage for the entire show stood a scant 8 feet away, nixing my plans on taking a photo or two with the camera I smuggled into the Molson Amphitheater (with a deliberate accent on the "f" sound in that word to keep Mr. Goodwin off my case). OK, I will reveal one thing: this is not the Two against Nature tour by any means. That's all I'm going to say. It's also not the Donald Fagan tour (waaahhhh) nor the Walter Becker tour (thank God). In fact, this isn't even a Level 42 tour. For best listening enjoyment, my advice is to plug your ears each time the ladies sing back-up and harmonies. With the sound dynamics creating echo, the instruments sprewing distortion, and the sonic artifacts getting in the way, you certainly don't want to rely on a tiny eardrum sized organ to capture all the glory of their performance. As my wife, the co-attender and speech pathologist extraordinaire explained to me, you "hear" two ways: with the ear drums and with you facial bones. When you hear outside sounds, you use your ear drums. When you hear from within, i.e., your own voice, you use your cranial bones. This is why you sound different when you hear yourself on a recording, you're using your ear drums versus your cranium. Back to the show.... When the gals sing, plug your ears, cut out all the garbage sounds and you'll be rewarded to the sweetest sounding back-up singers anywhere. Their talent is drowned out in the din. At least the din allowed/created by the Molson Amphitheater. If you hate Steely Dan, that's OK. But you should go just to hear the gals. (they look good too) The machine stops, John .......and they closed the package store. ------------------------------ Subject: "Napster bad."
