He was a big influence to me when I started drumming and I think he's marvellous. His drumming on Mike Lindups' "Changes" makes it the great album it is. Oh how I love "Changes", "Lovely Day" and "The Spirit Is Free". To chill. July, 7.30, Purcell Room on the South Bank. Part 1) The "New" Gary Husband Trio Part 2) The Drum Concert. Gary Husband - Piano, Drums, Keyboards, Acoustic Guitar. Mick Hutton - Bass, keyboard. Gene Calderazzo - Drums, Percussion Special Guest: Adam Riley - Latin Percussion. Bookings - online at www.sbc.org.uk, or phone 020 7960 4242. TICKETS: =A310 (=A32 OFF CONS.) "Gary has most recently been presenting more of a multifaceted output, corresponding with a wish to provide more of an equal platform for the many and varied musical areas he is active in. He has firmly established himself in the drum world from his notable associations over the years with artists such as Allan Holdsworth, Level 42, Jack Bruce and Gary Moore, but is also equally productive as a pianist, keyboard player and writer. It is in this realm he has been regularly performing and recording with the likes of Billy Cobham and Randy Brecker amongst others. He has produced his own drum video, (Improvisation & Interplay On The Drums) but has recently also released two keyboard based solo albums of his own; "Diary Of A Plastic Box", and "From The Heart", by his increasingly popular "New" Trio featured in the first half of this showcase. Following the interval the emphasis for Gary turns to drums, performing far-reaching newer compositions to his own backing on CD (including a piece for acoustic guitar), duets with Latin Percussionist Adam Riley, Gene Calderazzo, even a rousing new percussion composition involving the four participants of this evening's show all together. Not to be missed! tcoy Carl Mueller webmaster @ forevernow.com http://www.forevernow.com/ ------------------------------ Subject: RE: Level42 Digest V2000 #128 From: "Lisa Harding" Date: Fri, 30 Jun 2000 19:42:34 +0100 Willem I think there are quite a few of us Nik Kershaw nutters out here. some of them are prominent digesters and have a very cool selection of Nik tracks amongst them! I bought 15 minutes the day it came out here in the Uk and it is truly one of the best albums I have heard in a long long while! its good to hear that Nik still has that unique sound of his too and has not sold out like a lot of other bands around today. I always think it is such a shame when a band has to change their sound so drastically that they are unrecognisable just to fit in with what the teenies want. an example I particularly hated was the new Bryan Adams song. now I am not a Bryan Adams fan particularly but his stuff did not offend me either until he released his mad dance track a while ago and I thought he was guesting on another bands song until I read that it was in fact his. I felt quite let down. one of the things I always liked about level was that they managed to keep the sound that made them sound like level 42 - know what I mean? So in a nut shell it is nice to hear a musician still make the music he wants to make rather than what he is told to make even if it is not currently commercially viable. rant over, let the deluge begin. Had a great time and have the pictures to prove it... http://members.aol.com/donworld We spent 4 days in London, and 1.5 on the Isle of Wight. The weather was cloudless and gorgeous [no, really!], and I saw a lot more of the island than I'd seen on my two previous trips. Sad news about Joe Daflo's: it's completely changed. Every last remnant of the the former proprietor's membory has been erased. Not a frame on the walls, not a statue in the windows, even the shingle hanging outside has been changed, with only the original name left to point future pilgrims to where the magic happened.
