Has to be 'Instrumental love'. Only problem is, whenever the wife nows hears Level 42 she gets headache! (Well what can I expect after 10 years of marriage.) Every now and again, however, I do get to sneak an instrumental song in before the watershed, (ie before Buffy the Vampire Slayer is on.) 'Instrumental love' may work if I say its Shakatak! - she may get romantic then. This debate could, however solve the problem of 'How do I get the re-issues past the missus'. Tell her its a marital aid! Sorry, not all of you wanted to hear about my problems!!!! Thanks, Sam ------------------------------ Subject: Other than L42... From: "M. Payne" Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 13:11:19 CDT Hello, ALL Firstly, I would like to say that the video situation (Wolverhampton) has been dealt with, the persons involved have written and phoned me, to apoligise (I accepted) and they promised me several times that they would not make anymore copies of the video. I very much appreciate the help of a couple of digest members to help get to the bottom of this. I trust this is my last posting about this issue. Although nearly everybody that has ever copied (innocently of course) this video has sent me an email in the past few days saying that they had made copies but only charged a small amount to cover costs hoping that it wasn't them that was in trouble with the "what I have been secretly termed" the video-pirating constable! HAHA, NOT! On to other things... I was cleaning out a box, as I am getting ready to move within the next couple of weeks and found a cassette that I recorded in 1988, besides having a couple of the tracks off of L42 Staring At The Sun and SAY and LIL, it had the following (I am showing my age here I guess): What's On Your Mind (Pure Energy)/Tommorrow- Information Society Red Red Wine- UB40 Better Be Home Soon- Crowded House Need You Tonight/New Sensation- INXS Monkey-George Michael Electric Blue/Sunrise- Icehouse Beds Are Burning/The Dead Heart- Midnight Oil Funkytown/Lies Are Nothing-Psuedo Echo Simply Irresistable- Robert Palmer In God's Country/Where The Streets Have No Name- U2 Hungry Like The Wolf/The Reflex- Duran Duran Needless to say I haven't listen to this tape since @1991, it was quite a stroll down memory lane! Another tape I found had a FM station broadcast from Washington DC around 1986, and it had the theme from Short Circuit, from DeBarge, Who's Johnny.....I am glad that some groups have disbanded after listening to that second tape, Belinda Carlisle, indeed, YUCK! Just listen to the lyrics. The sound is quite sweet, too. I still hear that song all the time on the "quiet storm" jazz stations and is still a "jazz" favorite in the States. That's so great that L42 can touch people on a lot of different levels.>> Fred, where do you live? I ask this because Lying Still is one of my all time favorites [a few of us actually recorded a version of this last summer], and in the 15 years since the song came out I have never heard it on the radio. Ever. If you live in the States, its great to hear that some DJ out there put it on his or her playlist, and I'm jealous that you get the delicious treat of enjoying the song when you don't expect to hear it. Lolita >> It's weird, really. I live in Northern Virginia, about 45 mins. west of Washington, DC. Level 42 never really hit it big in the States, but their jazzy sound found them a nice following through those "quiet storm" stations. "Lying Still" is about one of the two from World Machine, along with "Good Man In A Storm", that I hear. The modern jazz or "jazz lite" stations play Level 42 often around here. Of course, I occasionally hear "Something About You" on the pop stations, esp. with the stations who do retro '80's stuff. But I never hear any of their other songs from any other albums. I hear "Lessons In Love" maybe once a year somewhere on the air, and occasionally "Love Games", but that's about it. There was a jazz station where I once lived in Monterey, CA, who had a DJ who was a bassist in a local jazz combo, and he had a "bass hour" show, so whenever I saw him, I'd have him play Level 42 stuff, esp. from "Level 42" and "The Pursuit Of Accidents" (the song "Pursuit Of Accidents especially), and he often did. It's always a pleasant surprise to hear a Level 42 song on the radio when not expected, esp. the older stuff! --Fred, The Two=Bit Bassist ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2000 #122 From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sun Jun 25 03:08:27 2000 > I have a friend who is leaving for London this Friday. > He has asked me to seek recommendations for hot > nightclubs, etc. He likes techno bars. We spent Friday nite at Club Havana in Leicester Square. It wasn't techno (thank heavens), but it was HOT. Appears to be a great place for meeting dance partners, if you know what I mean. ;o) Last nite, we enjoyed a great mini-mini-fest at Marcus & Lisa's charming new flat in Sutton. The group was small (Denise & me, Marcus, and the 3 Lisas: Harding, Devlin, & Hack), but it was a splendid time for all. Many, many thanks to L&M for their hospitality - and especially for the drive back to town!! Today, we're off to the IOW. 3 Lisas - sounds like a great name for a band (one more than Lisa Lisa)! :o) Cheers - Don Z. ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V2000 #122 From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sun Jun 25 03:08:27 2000 > I have a friend who is leaving for London this Friday. > He has asked me to seek recommendations for hot > nightclubs, etc. He likes techno bars.
