Can anyone give me a helping hand in order to get the "White Funky"-CD? Take care! /patrick ------------------------------ Subject: From: "chris doney" Date: Fri, 16 Jun 2000 14:53:45 BST After reading the postings on The Princes Trust gigs, I found myself listening to the CD again yesterday. It got me thinking, if Level 42 had ever done an album of cover versions, what would be on it? I remember on the 'Fait Accompli' video Mark having a kick about with "Tie a yellow Ribbon," (tongue firmly in cheek) but haven't heard them cover anything else. I thought, hey they'd do a great cover of "Her big day" then I remembered it was their's anyway!!! So, today's challenge, if you're interested, is to come up with a track that they could cover!!! With Princes trust in mind, I think they'd do a great "Breakout" (Swing out sister) with Mike on the chorus. In response to other postings, The Chinese Way is a true Masterpiece. (I find it a shade laborious sometimes now, but I have heard it 10,000 times or more!) It is still a tremendous live experience, and, for me was always a highlight of a show. The more the band got bored with it and tried to tart it up the better it became, especially when the horn section was at its best towards the end. Anyway, enough ravings... After their second album (Getahead), the band changed their name (by dropping the "Killed The Cat" part) because one of the members left the group. The trio then released two CD singles ("I Need Your Lovin", a cover or the Teena Marie song in '92, and "Gimme The Sunshine" in '93) on the RCA / BMG label in the UK, and they did a JAPAN-ONLY full-length CD called "Back To Front". Anyone interested in trading for a copy of these rarities? LIAPW, Jason (and Sherry) Nuckels :-) ------------------------------ Subject: CKTC - again! You know, Mac, talk like that will get you everywhere! ;) I also forgot to mention that I have one video of their first hits containing: Down To Earth, Ordinary Day, Misfit and Free - it's called Running The Distance. Can't say that the vids are particularly good or inventive but then again I'm not impressed by most vids. ;) I think I have a very old tape with some music lying somewhere if anyone's interested... Pete Devlin from Reading England. ( No relation to Lisa) I first got to hear of L42 back in 84 when I first started playing bass ( no surprises there then!!) & was asked if I'd heard of Mr King to which I replied something blasphemous like "who ?". I was told he played 'like a machine gun' & that I ought to have a listen. I did & here we are. I got to see L42 around 18 - 19 times. Including Frankfurt Oct 1988 & the very last show at the Royal Albert Hall. At the RAH show I decided that I would have to show my tattoo off & was rewarded after the gig by a tap on the shoulder & a guy shaking my hand saying ' I'm Marks father & to see that on your back is fantastic'. I was completely gobsmacked. I've seen Mike at Brighton last year & at Camden this year. I went to 4 shows on the Oneman tour Inc the Ryde one ( wanna buy a T- shirt ? did he ever sell them all ?) & finally got to shake the man's hand after 15 years! I was also reintroduced to his dad & got to meet some of the family which was great &. The tat came out again (on request). I also went on trash tour 4 times if you count the show at music live before the Ronnie Scotts gig in B'ham. I like all the stuff old & 'new' that is not to say I actually own it all - I not sure but I think the only tracks I haven't heard are the thunderthumbs ones. Can't really give you a favourite song, depends on my mood some fire me up & others touch me etc. My favourite piece of music of all time though is Dune Tune. I don't know why (no pun intended!!) but I find it magical. I haven't played myself for quite a while now I keep meaning to get back into it but ya know how it is. Hope that wasn't too waffley. Cheers
