Funky T, your CD recommendations had me grabbing my pen and a post-it note to copy down the titles. I am going to get them this weekend - particularly the Mandrill compilation since I didn't know there was one. Thanks so much for them. <> This is the only one he mentioned that I actually own, and he is right on target! This compilation is unbelievable. Each CD is chock full of great tunes [both have at least 14 songs on them] and the musicianship is top notch. Anybody who has ever been to a house music club has heard the song Running Away because it has been a club staple for about 20 years [shoo be doo, boy boy boy; slammin non-slapped bassline]. The great thing is it still sounds fresh. Erykah Badu did a cover of the song Searchin' on her live CD, and the Roots featured Roy on a tune on Red, Hot & Cool where he did the riff from 'Sunshine' at the very end. To me he is truly the father of acid jazz, and its nice that he still plays so often. He is actually playing in Central Park here in Manhattan in a blockbuster show: Roy Ayers, Jocelyn Brown, Masters at Work, Little Louie Vega and Jody Watley in a day long extravaganza on July 2nd [I think the show is free]. I of course will be on vacation and am very upset to miss this, but anyone in the NY metro area should definitely attend this. Hello yawl'

Firstly, Hey John, It was great to hooooooook up again! Had a GREAT time, and for public knowledge he is also a GREAT guy and has a MONSTER 6-string bass guitar that almost is as big as Mark King!

Secondly, (WORD MACHINE)I am wondering (a friendly suggestion) why don't you just post what you have done as opposed to printing it all out into some sort of fan-mag. Although, I am sure that you want something tangible "in-hand" of work you have done for L42/MK/ML/and so on... , but would it not serve you better, mainly not spending all that money on priniting, to just post it on a webpage or gosh even the digest? Seems like a waste of good money and extra time to me!

Third, To a "special" person out there... .computers surely should not be given nor have access to some people! GEEZ!

Four score and no goals in the 3rd period, DALLAS STARS, Christ what can I say, AAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHH!!! Winston, hope you are feeling better man! Three in a row, I think not! Lemeiux, what a THUG!

Fifth, LEVELFEST TEXAS ROUND-UP 6 DALLAS/FT WORTH DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED ON FRIDAY! So Sean, KCM may play again! :)

Sixth, on the TV show Martin, his apt # is 42! I know, weak!

Thats all folks......

Kind Regards.....

------------------------------ Subject: ATTENTION ALL BASSISTS IN THE U.S. (OR ABROAD) From: "Anthony Richards" Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2000 11:09:55 -0400 Ladies and gentleman, I'm a guitarist/drummer/percussionist by trade, but the love of THE GROOVE has fuled my desire to purchase an electric bass in the very near future. My question to all you bassists out there is, which would be the best one to start with for the type of sound I'm looking for? Of course, given my huge love of Mark King and other slap/pop bassists, I want a bass that's going to give me a nice funky sound (I know it also depends on the string type/guages, etc.). I also want a bass that's going to give me a nice deep, rich funky tone (ala Francis Rocco Prestia or Andrew Levy). One person I know has already suggested that I go for a Fender Jazz Bass rather than the Fender Precision. What do you all think? I've seen Fender Jazz and Precision basses listing for under or around $500 (brand new) in a few local music stores here in Long Island, NY (Sam Ash and Music Land). I've been told that these basses are made in Mexico or something, but that the quality is still very good. I've also seen several Ibanez basses for under $500 dollars. If I could afford something like a Music Man Stingray or an Alembic, I'd definitely go for it, but I am working on a limited budget at the moment. I'd like to keep the actual guitar price as low as possible, considering that I'm also going to have to buy a good basss amp as well, and maybe an effect or two. Recommendations on an economical but efficient bass amp are also greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to everyone who can supply me with the information I'm looking for. Take care everyone. Payne" Date: Tue, 06 Jun 2000 14:57:26 CDT Does anybody know (and forgive me if this has already been talked about prior, as I might have not seen it) if PMV is going to re-release Fait Accompli, Level Best, and Live at Wembley onto DVD format in conjunction with the re-issues? What about plans by RCA to re-release any of their archives video and/or audio remasters? It would be nice to have Guranteed remastered, since it was created way back in 1991! Amazing how much easier to read that little return key can make it. I saw MI2 weekend before last and thought about posting the L42 bit here, but wondered about spoiling it. The person I was with wondered why in the world I was laughing at that point (while everything's getting shot to hell). Good movie though, IMO. Entertaining. As good as or better than the 1st one. Has anyone got the Eternal dance box set, I must admit, it misses a lot of great tracks (my favourites being "Runnin", "Let your feelings show" and "You and I" and neither of these are on any of the discs! Also, has any of you heard of Ramsey Lewis?, I know some of you have, any way have you heard an album by him called "Sky Islands", there is a few fantastic instrumentals on there, particularly the title track. If you like EWF this is a must! Cheers Tavs the tiny bass player
