For £300 you get a 4 string with active bass and treble, twin pickups, rosewood bolt on neck, rosewood fretboard, metal nut and a nice natural finish alder body. I've only had mine for 6 months and I'm highly delighted with it. I need some serious amplification though as my Marshall Bass State B30 is just not up to the job. Get some lighter guage strings 40/95s or similar and junk the facory jobs that it comes with and you too can sound like Mark for a fraction of the price of a GB bass and an Ashdown King Special. Keep funkin' Brian. ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: BBC Masters Series & Mark King From: Cymrusmc @ aol.com Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2000 14:34:34 EDT In a message dated 6/3/00 3:08:14 AM Pacific Daylight Time, Level42-request @ worldmachine.com writes: << ubject: Real time From: "Eric Gonzalez" Date: Sat, 3 Jun 2000 11:48:37 +1000 To Fred, the two bit bass player: In the Mid 80's, BBC did a Master-Class series for various instruments. Naturally, Mark King was the guest Master Bass player. When it was put to him that some of his recordings (esp. on 'Influences') were inpossible to do in real time, he laughed, picked up his bass and played them, live, and proved everybody wrong. He also said, at that time, that he would never record bass lines that he could not reproduce live, in real time.My bass teacher gave me a copy of the tape. Perhaps you can track down a copy of this tape from the BBC. I got the tape in 1988, so it was done between 1984 (influences was released) and 1988. I doubt MK would pull a swifty on us. Eric G. >> I wish there were a more comprehensive news and media service in the States: the BBC has just about everything (even if they offer crap sometimes). MTV can be helpful, but doesn't offer what we as Level 42 fans look for. Intellectual stuff, even. I recall the "real-time" disclaimer of the Influences CD; I'm glad Mark got to show that you certainly CAN do the seemingly impossible. That only proves that "practice makes perfect" and "you can do anything if you set your mind to it" and other like cliches! Besides, anyone who has been to a Level 42 concert, a pleasure I've never had the fortune to experience, can attest to the fact that Mark is really playing what one is hearing. --Fred, The Two-Bit Bass Player ------------------------------ Subject: Puzzle plug From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Sun, 4 Jun 2000 00:53:12 EDT Hey, since the Sunday edition usually is light, let me take this opportunity to encourage everyone to download the Level 42 Crossword Puzzle at... http://www.geocities.com/donz42/lvlcross.html Cheers! - Don Z.
