From: "Andy Smith" Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 12:48:39 +0100 A big hello digesters - Andy (mad L43 trumpet bloke) here!! Yes it's been months and months since I've made a posting - what a chuffer eh?!! The confession - today, i have just started reading this year's postings and in reverse order too!!! Eric H. - please accept my humble apologies! To the americans (and everyone else BTW)- 'I Love you guys!!' Well, what got me writing again? Seeing all the postings about 'Sandstorm', 'Heathrow' etc - that's what! I just love this stuff Lolita - glad to see you mention SITL, I'm pleased you're still keeping the 'faith'! Bilal, my man, best of luck organising the BF'99. Folks, we had such a great time last year - this cannot be missed let me tell you. Anyway, enough of the whaffle - great to see that the digest is stronger than ever. From: "steve whyte" Date: Fri, 09 Apr 1999 05:06:28 PDT I have just got back from Ireland, where I have been shooting a film for the past two weeks, and it has taken me over an hour to get through the waiting issues of the Digest! Reading about the ongoing saga surrounding Boon's 'Tinman' CD has encouraged me to listen to it again after an absence in my CD player. What a fantastic album it is! There are so many outstanding tracks on the album ('Sleepy People' and 'Every Day' to name just two) that it ranks alongside 'Changes' as the better solo efforts, IMHO. No offence, Mark! I realise that the principle is at stake surrounding the CD saga, but dammit, it is worth every penny. I recommend it to all. I can't wait for Boon's next offering. BTW, following a posting from a fellow digester, I have also found a 3-track, 12" promo copy of TSGD 98, (it made my day!) It is in the Polydor red and black sleeve too. I don't really want to play it, so I'm still after the CD. Can anyone help? Just for the record, (everybody else is doing it, so why can't I?); Heaven: 'TRotHRM' & 'Mr. Pink' Hell: 'The Chant Has Begun' & 'The Ape' TCOY Steve. "Too afraid to be human, They say 'Turn the light out, turn the light out.' Afraid that life will consume them, They say 'It's too bright out, it's too bright out.'" Alas, when I asked for 4242 it had already been taken - I settled for 4249!! Don Z. - the weather has got better in Aylesbury, Bucks recently so I've been in shirt-sleeve order at work. There have been many questions about your ILF'98 tie pin now that it's on view to the public!!! Desert Island disk - it can only be SITL!!!! Chris D - you tart, where have you been?!!! Later, Andy. MAN! GIVE ME THAT JOB! Here is what I would attempt to get on the album: Billy Idol singing Fashion Fever Kraftwerk singing Micro-Kid and Love in a Peaceful World Devo singing The Sleepwalkers (remember what they did with Satisfaction?) Thomas Dolby singing Out of Sight, Out of Mind. It sounds like one of his songs from the same period anyhow. Shonen Knife singing The Chinese Way AC DC singing Dance on Heavy Weather Duran Duran singing Heart out on the Line. Trust me on that one. Tom Jones singing To be with You Again. and to close the album........Bjork singing Love Games I would buy an album like that! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Bass Player From: DonZipf @ aol.com Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 11:08:22 EDT Hey, everybody! Please bin the start of that remark. Whilst I'll agree some of their stuff could be called samey, the latest CD I have - Monkey Fields - is nothing short of superb. Variety, great tunes, great musicianship. I recommend it to anyone, although I had to go hunting through the Web to find a store that sold it. I got mine from CD Universe, if I remember correctly. Saw them live at Margate Winter Gardens (twice) in 82 & 83 (still have the tour sweat shirt too - and it still fits!!). Last saw them at Wembley - much to big a venue IMHO, the band suited smaller and more atmospheric venues. Caught up with the Mark King tour at Leicester De Montfort, great gig, shame about most of the audience sitting on their hands throughout, and as for getting up and dancing - I was looked at by people as if I was something they had found on the bottom of their shoes. A bit about me - 43 y.o. male currently living near Nottingham UK, working as a civil servant. Interests, Soccer, Computers, all sorts of music - obviously Level 42!!! Heaven - Its Over Hell - Her Big Day And I couldn't let pass the chat about great funk tracks - how about Wilton Felder's "Inherit The Wind" - it "blows" me away (sorry about the bad pun) Definitely up for a levelfest in Nottingham! Ronald ------------------------------ Subject: Running in the family Platinum Edition From: "Ronald Kuipers" Date: Fri, 9 Apr 1999 19:27:41 +0200 Hi all, I know, I know, I have asked this before but there are so many more these days and I haven't got a satisfying answer yet so. Is there a release of the Platinum edition witch contains 6 remixes, instead of 5. I remember that I saw pictures of it before it was released witch said that there were 6 mixes on it. The album would also include TBWYA - ADCS mix. Now I want to know, Does it exist, and if it does, is there anyone on this list who has it? I have seen it on an Internet site once but the people couldn't confirm if the mix was actually on it. Greetings . . . . . . . . . . . Meanwhile.. I was strolling along the high street of my home town Godstone last week (a quiet village in the north downs for those who don't.) and gradually became aware of a distant, but regular & slowly growing thud. (It should be said that I spend enough time in London to recognise the approach of a vehicular PA system when I hear it) but in such restful climes this is something of a rarity, The sound slowly grew in intensity, reaching that stage where you begin to wonder if it's your ears that are compressing, and all before the offending motor had actually breached visual range. When it finally did, it was everything I expected - Escort Cosworth, blacked out windows, 17 exhausts, you know the sort of thing. Such devices are usually equipped with specially produced bass CD's (the type they advertise in the back of Max Power magazine - apparently... not that I read it you understand...) or Kiss FM if on a low budget. But as it drew level with me and I was momentarily treated to the full frequency range within (undoubtedly capable of drilling concrete) and was amazed to hear... STARCHILD!! Originally released in the early to mid 80's (it may have been called 'The Present'). At any rate, I can definitely hear Mark singing this song. Not that I ever expect it to happen...
