They are another favorite group of mine next to L42. I also found it surprising to see them on the eagle records label and you know: Nik Kershaw is also on eagle records with his new album. All these new cd's are fantastic (included Mark King's one man of course). Check NK and SQ out, both are excellent. Ernst-Jan PS. No mention of Mark King on the new cd of Nik Kershaw. ------------------------------ Subject: freedom a-go-go From: Ernst van der Hee Date: 30 Mar 1999 14:01:33 +0200 Andreas, Freedom a-go-go is the B-side of 'Freedom', single and 12'' by Thunderthumbs and the toetsenman. Toetsenman is a dutch word for 'keyboard player'. It was a one-time production of MK en ML and sounds a bit like 'there's a dog' (on MK's influences). Both 7'' and 12'' are (extremely) rare items, I only saw one 12'' copy on een L42fest and it's quite expensive. So you may come across a copy on a Cd/record fair if you're lucky (I never saw one on a fair) Ernst-Jan ------------------------------ Subject: Glad to be back on the digest !!!!!!!! From: darleneyoung @ usa.net Date: 30 Mar 99 05:02:55 MST Hey, I'm glad to be back. Made a big leap across the Atlantic from inner city Bronx, New York to the very interesting country of Germany. Have been out of touch on anything Level for so long; but would now appreciate ANY HELP on locating book written about them a couple of years ago. Heard it is VERY DIFFICULT to find but I have faith in all my fellow Levelheads. Would anyone kindly help a gal from New York get her hands on a copy??? Would also like to know anything about Phil Gould and his group AMG? Or is this just a unfounded rumor? Sorry, I'm probably way behind the times, but I'm a die hard level 42 fan and nomatter what I do, I can't get them out of my system. Really, I don't want to. Also, Mark King played the Kammgarnn not too long ago. I'm not too far from there, but wasn't able to attend because of other commitments. Did anyone go to that gig? How was it?! Glad to be back! Reach out and touch me! ____________________________________________________________________ Get free e-mail and a permanent address at http://www.netaddress.com/?N ------------------------------ Subject: NYC Levelfest attendee list From: Lolita Jackson Organization: Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Date: Tue, 30 Mar 1999 09:02:32 -0500 Here is the latest list of people who have expressed an interest in coming. It's in fact MK as Thunderhumbs & ML as The Toetsenman. I can MP3 it for you Dirk *******************Internet Email Confidentiality Footer******************* Privileged/Confidential Information may be contained in this message. Just a quickie to say thankyou to Rosy and Christina for their kind comments about my Spanish attempts. I am not embarrassed to say that I only learnt a little of the language whilst at school and as a result have forgotten most of the basics. Captain Autumn (Daft name! - at least mine is relevant!) - Whilst I appreciate that your ability to speak spanish is far better than mine I do not think that you should take to having a dig at people for making the effort. Never at any point did I say I was fluent, but I wanted to have a go and welcome Rosy to the digest in her own tongue. I know I made mistakes in the language but I am starting to learn again and wanted to see what response I would get from her. I have had messages from both Rosy and Christina Gallegos who have both said they will help me with my learning of the language so at the end of the day and Rosy has told me directly that she appreciated my efforts and that she wanted me to carry on writing to her so I could practise. So you see my friend - at the end of the day I have offended no one whereas you have offended a couple of people, who is the more sensible here? Anyway, I have had enough of this subject and wish to discuss other things. Oh yeah! - Nightfly, Don't worry mate, I am more than familiar with your shenanigans to know that it was nothing personal mate! From: "Joy Gerardi" Date: Tue, 30 Mar 1999 15:19:10 PST At 4o'clock today, I had ventured in uncharted territory. I finally got my Level 42 tattoo. It looks very cool and I can assure you it was very painful. Being that it was my first, I decided to go with the logo in plain outlined letters with flames on each of them. It is resting uncomfortably on my left ankle. My next tattoo will probably be Mike Lindup next to the logo. Anyone else have any forty (tat)twos?? I have just caught up with all of the digests I missed--No more mention of a NYC concert. NOT A GOOD SIGN!! I will not be able to leave this earth w/o seeing one!! (lots of exclamation points!!!) LOZ ------------------------------ Subject: The Early Tapes From: "willem van der veen" Date: Wed, 31 Mar 1999 11:47:41 +0200 Today I was listening to this great album and one thing came in mind. I always thougt that if the song "sandstorm" wasn't written , how te hell came L42 to "hot water". Now I think otherwise. I'd say the bassline of HW did exist before S and in that time Mark add some nice notes to it. The other hand , i've read that the song was composed on keyboard (?) Well that leaves me nowwhere. But..... I think to come up with such tune that's easier to "create" on bass instead of keyboard Bassplayers now that the left hand can make a sort of square (I can't find the words to express otherwise) Other suggestions ? Cheers Willem, Yabbadabbadoeei !!
