(drums stop, very bad) NYCLF - should include a trip to the Tower Records warehouse. For dinner, I recommend a place called Kazan Turkish Cuisine. I sort-of know the owner (great food). I'll have to find the location. I too, would be interested in obtaining the 'Unreached Levels' CD. Winston - You stayed at the SeaHaven? did you stay in the 'Bruce Conrad memorial room'? LOVE MEETING LOVE Summer nights, making love Together we're as one in love's light We have found our way through another day So tonight we'll stay Drunk on love's sweet wine Heaven yours and mine Love meeting love sweet lady Take my soul Keep it in it's place through the night Hold me in your arms and take me in And we''ll start again To look into the fire Sipping our desire Love meeting love yeah yeah The floating lost in love Your body soft and warm next to mine Time is standing still for you and me So silently talking with our eyes Knowing no goodbyes Love meeting love yeah yeah ................. The lyrics have been transcribed from the Japanese version of The early Tapes which has an insert in it with the lyrics (in english and japanese) I hope that helps you out with your query Let me know if there are any others you want Lisa 'Mrs Pink' ------------------------------ Subject: Hello, Baton Rouge From: "Gaetan Duperron" Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 07:12:54 PST Sorry guys, but I must say that reading the digest lately has been as much fun as watching paint dry. Where have you gone Andrew Goodwin? Our digest turns its jaded eyes to you... Okay, so I'm a suck, but I think that the lack of recent and frequent contributions from certain digesters (that I wouldn't dare count myself among), indicate that the level of discourse may have dropped off quite a bit. Bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch, bitch... (sigh!) It made me feel like I was along for the ride. I also felt like I was reading a Jack Kerouac novel, and that's a "good" thing. Nicely done!!! The Machine Stops John ------------------------------ Subject: IOW gig and pics From: GJWillett @ aol.com Date: Sat, 20 Mar 1999 12:28:27 EST Hi folks, Finally calmed down and have time to write about last Monday's gig in Ryde on the IOW. WOW what a day!!! A small crowd was already in place when I arrived at Joe Daflos at about 1pm. They were already drinking and when I too had a drink in my hand they told me that Mark had already been in about an hour beforehand. But "don't dispear" they said "he's going to come back to sign autographs after the gig". The afternoon proceeded with much chatting, greeting and drinking (but not necessarily in that order!!) till we all headed off to the venue just around the corner. Then there was waiting followed by more waiting till we all finally got let inside and till Mark got on stage. During the gig, Mark was bouncing all over the stage (bearing in mind that it was quire small) and seemed to be as happy as a sand boy throughout. He played at 110% especially during a bass solo before Mr Pink. Nathan, again, was great during his solos and during his backing vocals and Trevor played as well as he has done throughout the tour. One person who really stood out for me was Lyndon. His scat solo during Love Games was superb and he seemed to be really up for it and enjoying himself. No sooner had the gig started, it finished - far too soon for my liking. The gig seemed to fly by. Before Mark disappeared off stage, he pointed towards Joe Daflos and gestured a drinking action with his hand and said "See you for a drink". We all squeezed our way out of the venue and headed back to JD's. The place was packed inside. I made my way to the back and then 10 mins later Mark came through and started chatting to people, standing with people while others took photos and signed autographs. He did all of this right in front of me!!! I asked him "what's with the suit?". He replyed looking at me in my jeans and T-shirt (BTW, thanks Chris, Winston and everybody else for them) "I wish I hadn't bothered now!". The guy is so down to earth and he went behind the bar to sign more autographs and for people to take more pictures. Shortly afterwards we all had to leave JD's and I headed back home (didn't get back till 3am and was absolutley knackered during work the following day) A BIG thanks to everybody who came - Chris, Simon, Adz (the T-shirt Del Boy), Winston, Eric, Mrs Pink and Marcus (Congrats!!!), Richard (didn't know you were coming till I saw you at the gig itself), Tony, Ian Buck (great to finally meet the guy behind the old Level 42 info phone line at long last!) and Simon Carson, Paul (the MK website man), Andy + wife and everybody else who was there but I'm just terrible putting names to faces!!! I've spent the whole morning scanning in my photos of the gig. You can find them on my web site at: http://members.aol.com/gjwillett/level42/index.html More, hopefully, to come after I come back from my holiday. From: "Pashman, Rob" Date: Sun, 21 Mar 1999 03:16:21 -0500 Hi all, I don't know what kind of financial situation Mark King and company are in, but even great artists such as he have a really hard time touring the United States of America because of the strong dollar and the finicky musical tastes. The logistics of touring the US with it's many concert halls may be an easier proposition than touring somewhere like Eastern Europe but when you don't have your face on the cover of Rolling Stone or your song on the radio "it's over"-no pun intended. With this grim fact, a bunch of fans of the group Marillion (a prog-rock band much more popular in Europe who had a hit in the U.S. in '85 with "Kayleigh") embarked on raising money to offset the cost of touring the U.S. for their favorite band. I was one who gave $30 and then got a live double CD exclusive to those of us who gave a contribution. I'm not proposing that "we" do the same, but it's just an interesting story I wanted to share. There are many "lesser known" foreign artists who come to NYC to play places like Irving Plaza and The Hammersmith -I just wish Mark were one of them.
