I would just like to say to all those people who complain about the book selling. That fans are literally crying out for this ONLY Level 42 book. Now they will not get it from and will probably never find it. Re - Word Machine. If I don;t make it financially viable I will stop. Then there will be no information at all from this source. If people can't handle a few lines of text now and again so be it, but I challenge anyone to send me one of my posts that has not been informative. 10% of digesters buy Word Machine, I think a message that appeals to 1 in 10 digester is VERY rare. IMPORTANT NOTE: IF you are a Word Machine subscriber keep checking www.level42.com or www.forevernow.com whilst I establish an email list. I have made my position clear. Selling book is a service to fans. It's not as though I'm pushing CD's you can buy elsewhere. When you buy Word Machine, you are paying for the paper, ink, postage. WHen you access the internet, you are paying for the computer, you WSP, and your phone bill. The only difference is your computer store made a profit, your WSP does as does you phone company. Phil's ability to stretch his mind is incredible. This song deals with an affair, between an unmarried man and a married woman, who breaks it off very awkwardly. Do you have the same problem with the Mark King Fan CLub? MK tour shirts? Digester badge? I think not. I don;t think my one post informing people of what would in issue 3 was too much (it also contained a lot of new information for people) I think Eric, you need to be more pragmatic about the situation. There is an element on the digest who, for whatever reason, do not like me (and others it seems for that matter). I once recieved an email from a friend, who, upon saying they had recieved something from Mark, recieved a deluge of mail from an element of digesters priasing them for having made up the story aggrevate me? What? Thats what my friend thought. The question that needs to be asked is, I am doing the digest a dis-service, am I making it unpleasent to read for others. Am I doing anything that other people do not do? Do I deserve to come under all this flack? Could be comfortably put up with my behaviour? I sell books and word machine as a service to internet and none internet fans, NOT for my personal gain. I do not need to do Word Machine or sell books for personal gain. I can spend my evenings teaching AutoCad for 25 pounds an hour instead of doing Word Machine quite comfortably thankyou. it would be a shame for all if this stopped, in my opionion. I ENJOY THE DIGEST THE MOST WHEN I AM UNDER THE COSH! LOZ [How about you just make a one-line email signature saying something like: "Loz's Word Machine page --> http://xyz.pdq.co.uk" That should do the trick by providing _constant_ reminder to everyone, while being a neutral/passive way to get the message across. -Eric] ------------------------------ Subject: Levelfest in NY From: rotuar79 @ snyoneva.cc.oneonta.edu Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 11:25:59 -0400 (EDT) Hello everyone. Yes, that is very good news. I actually really enjoyed the band, particularly their new single (Bad Hair Day). I was just flipping through some of their CD's recently, and the last track on Jazz-Funk is slammin' (much of this album is a bit like the older Level 42 stuff), as is Jacob's Ladder and everything else they've done. Even their pop stuff is great--every time I hear the song "I hear your name" I just want to go dancing. There. Now you can all sleep better at night... -------------- In other news, I've got 200 pictures from the gigs *almost* ready for viewing (although thank goodness, most of them are *not* pictures of the shows, I think we've all seen enough pictures of Mark holding a bass now). I also have several more mp3 files (including several more Level 42 and Incognito tracks) that have not been uploaded yet. I also still plan on completely redoing the index page so that it will look more seamless with the level42.com and forevernow.com web pages, as I am getting a surprising number of redirections from there. My hope is that nobody from Polydor or RCA will care about these files being available, as this page is now published on altavista and a few other engines, via the links from the level42 and forevernow pages. ------------------------------ Subject: More Incognito From: Daniel James Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 09:51:45 -0800 (PST) Oh yeah, I forgot that on the official Incognito page, there is mention of a new album coming out!!! Kansas City Milkman ------------------------------ Subject: The Midi Extreme == Stayin' Alive!! From: "Sean D. Green" Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 17:39:06 -0600 Dear Levelheads, Well, as many of you know by now, I negated on taking down my site. Yeah, figured if someone really wanted to press the issue, I could bring it down, but I still wanted an area to post Level MIDIs to so...screw 'em!!! Latest News: Chris Mocke is currently working on "The Chinese Way." I am not sure when he'll finish the thing, but maybe in a couple of weeks or so. He'll e-mail it to me, and I'll post it to my page ASAP. I, on the other hand, am currently working on "Kansas City Milkman" and "Overtime." They're sounding pretty good thus far, but I still have a ways to go on them. I think 2 weeks should be a pretty good estimate on the finals. Advice: For those of you having any MIDI files on personal pages you may want to make sure that none of them have been created by "Trycho" music Inc. Stephen Kern (sp?) is the developer of many MIDI files that are all over the net today, and since he would rather sue than to advise, I would compare your MIDI files to those that he has done. There is a catalogue available on his site of the pieces he's done. To date, I don't believe he has done any Level 42 MIDIs. Also, he appears to only be suing people in the California area. I doubt that he would want to come to another state and spend a lot of legal dough to take a chance on a suit. Wishing you all a very happy day, and keep listening to the music!!! p.s. -- Anyone needing to contact Mike Payne may do so via my e-mail account for now. I live near him, so I will pass the word along. ~Sean The Level-Muse-O -- *********** "The MIDI Extreme" *********** * http://www.flash.net/~questps/midi.htm * *** For the best MIDI files on the net!*** ****************************************** ------------------------------ Subject: A word in defense of Loz. From: ALBERT42 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 10 Mar 1999 22:38:32 EST Okay, so Loz puts in a plug for Word Machine every once in a while. He also does his best to keep the members of the digest informed about the band members and other stuff, and also about Word Machine. I personally haven't found myself offended by his mentioning of Word Machine in his postings. After all it seems that Word Machine is something that he puts a lot of time and effort into. And, at least he doesn't post just saying "Buy Word Machine" He always has something informative to add to it. I haven't gotten a copy of Word Machine yet, but it looks like it might be a well done mag from what I've seen on the Level 42 website. So, this is my two cents about Word Machine. I hope that I haven't mentioned Word Machine so many times in this posting that it would be considered a plug. After all Word Machine, there I go again, is something that Loz came up with and if he wants to mention it every once in a while I have no problem with it. From: HAMMOND Paul Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 08:26:00 -0000 Dear All, I received an email from Gavin Robertson today saying that the May 6th 1999 Mike Lindup date at Komedia Theatre in Brighton is now sold out. However, Gavin and Mike have decided to add a second night on 7th May 1999 - same time (10pm), same place (Komedia Theatre).. What is even more impressive what Gavin goes on to say: " the gig still hasn't been advertised on printed publicity yet so this all from the internet. Book early though because I think we're on course for another sell-out, and that's not just marketing talk!! " Top stuff guys! Let's try to sell out the second night too, shall we. Tickets are £7.50 each (a bargain in my book), and should be available now from the Komedia box office on +44 (0)1273 647100. I shall certainly be buying another bunch of tickets... Can I just say also that it is absolutely great to see both Mark and Mike back "in the saddle" and here's hoping for some even greater things in the next year or so... Date: Thu, 11 Mar 1999 05:55:22 -0800 (PST) Dear Friends, Yesterday was the great day;Mark's show ended at 1:45...And the best thing is I got so excited that I couldn't sleep at all last night. But the show deserved everything... I will write my personal review on tomorrow's Digest.Today I would like to tell you my feelings as I managed to meet the King.In fact, it wasn't difficult but it wouldn't had been possible without the Spanish Tour Responsible (I don't know another way to say it...Promotor?) attention and care. All began with the article I told you about yesterday featured in "El Periódico de Catalunya".I managed to contact with the man who wrote it.He told me he had interviewed Mark by phone and that he seemed disapointed with his record company.I added there was a mistake in the article, it said that last visit to Barcelona had been 11 years ago, forgetting the show at the Sala Zeleste in Barcelona during the Guaranteed tour... He didn't give more interesting details but he addressed to Robert Mils, the responsible I have told you before.I called Luz de Gas (the hall where Mark played yesterday) and asked for him.I told Robert both my brother Marc and me have been fans for so many years and that we admire MK inmensely and it was our illusion to meet him.He was really polite, kind and friendly and it even sounded really interested in our devotion...We arrenged a meeting to meet King at 5... I couldn't eat anything (so many years waiting for that day).At 5 o'clock Marc and me arrived at Luz de Gas and the dream became reality.Mark was there!, and just after salute him he ran to us...He was so friendly... We talked for 15 minutes and he said he was very proud of the Fans support. He also confirm his disappointment with the record company and, and that's the best, he will begin working in a new album the day after the show at the IOW...kidding?It didn't sound he were. Of course, we made him sign some items:Two copies of One Man,some promo photos, some rare 12" and the T-shirt (which is already framed now, he,he...) I bought in London before the last gig by Level 42. Ups, I don't want to disturb you anymore. Àlvar Coma i Puig. Barcelona.
