Had to blow out the driveway from 10" of snow to pull the van in. Back in the house by 12:30 a.m., 1999!!! Now, I just watched us get dumped with 26" of snow (not trying to one-up Cliff B.) and we have the treat of anticipating an additional 17" overnight. Hi-lites of the week at Disney were the Virgin Megastore at Marketplace. Of all places to sample the Greatest Hits package, this was it. It was prominantly displayed on the "listening wall", so I got my Level 42 fix for the week. It was $28.00 Boy, those songs sound good when you've got "It's a Small World After All" stuck in your head. Other hi-lites included the Samantha Fox look-alike at poolside (English accent too!) as well as numerous non-vomit inducing rides. Very nearly the correct procedure. All you forget to do was put the question mark at the end. Assuming your question was "Would you correct me or advise me of the web address?" To which the answer is "Gladly", incidentally. Always happy to be of service. > Subject: Birthday Thanks, L42 on SNL, X-Files > From: Cliff.Barua @ ec.gc.ca > > I was absolutely pleasantly surprised by the birthday greetings from Daniela > Dobrinov in yesterday's Digest. Not half as surprised as the rest of us. I didn't realise there was a Barua appreciation society watching out for significant dates. My own celebration rapidly approaches, marred this year by my new employers insisting that a team meeting take preference over a dour Division 1 relegation battle, thereby condemning me to miss my first home game since the Dan came to Wembley a couple of years back. A greeting from Eastern Europe would more than make amends. > I have no choice but to proclaim that > "Daniela Dobrinov" is now my favourite Digest name, replacing the > still-beautiful "Angelina Rogero". The fickle hand of fortune twists its knife into the absent Angelina. I once told Barua I LOVED him and didn't get the "Oh, that's my favourite name, no really" treatment. > Daniela, my Bulgarian is not so good, so > I'll use Serbo-Croatian: "Hvala dobre. Ja ta volim." (Many thanks. I > love you). Is Hristo Stoichkov playing anywhere this year?? Blimey Cliff, I've heard some lousy chat up lines in my time but "Is Hristo Stoichkov playing anywhere this year??" really takes some beating. > for my money the real Joe P is none other than Andrew > Goodwin. I wish. I can't get this guy to e-mail me no matter what I do. I think he's scared of me. Or do I (dramatic, sweeping chords) scare myself? [Laughs maniacally.] Mother, oh mother, what have you done? This message dedicated to the purists. AG ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 and the Race Card From: "Byrdman" Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 15:53:29 -0700 Someone wondered exactly what does this Level 42 digest have to do with the racist remarks and response that has been published lately. Let me try to explain... Level 42, Mark King, Mike Lindup, ad nausium don't have anything at all to do with this thread, but the fans who adore them do, of course. We are all here for Level-42 related news and chat, thats obvious. But the subtle point that seems to escape quite a few subscribers is that this digest represents a virtual community. I know how cheesy that may sound but this IS a virtual community of benefactors, citizens, roles and rules. The Joe P affair is a matter of how we wish this community to be. Shall we allow insensitive remarks to offend our citizens or shall choas rule? I have said this once before: I don't believe this digest is the pinnacle of Love and Harmony represented on the 'Net. I do believe that this is a family of sorts- what Alvin Tofler discussed in his book "The Third Wave" as a new-model family-type, but I don't think that we magicly become an ideal of human exsistience just because we say so. Having said that, the Joe P affair (part II, as this exact same thing did happen when I started with the digest in '96) is just an exersize in tolerance: what kind of people and what kind of language and abuse we will tolerate on this digest. There is a disclaimer that comes along with this digest stating that those who cannot treat other digest members with a certain level of respect should be asked to leave the digest. This the Constitution of this Digest, with our love of Level 42 as the Magna Carta. Therein lies the relevance of the recent turmoil to this digest. Another rant from he who rants best...
