It's getting harder and harder for me to come back to my day-to-day life. That's the reason why I've chosen to stay on my cloud remembering all the things I lived. My head full of souvenirs and my heart full of emotions. Needless to say that it was one the greatest moment of my life (why one ? THE BEST !! I MET MARK FOR THE FIRST TIME !!) and it was very painful to leave you... Many thanks to your simplicity, kindness, and human warmth. Hoping that I could relive these special moments with you again, and again and again... Love Sonia ------------------------------ Subject: New digester From: Catherine Beauchamp Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 13:14:21 -0000 Hi to all digesters I am a new digester who has been a big fan of L42 for 15 years. Went to the Croydon and Shepherds Bush gigs that were GREAT!!! Not many at the Croydon gig but still fantastic. Actually managed to meet Mark at SB after waiting 1 1/2 hrs for him. Well worth it though. Got loads of Pics. Can I get one of them on the Website and how do I go about it? Is it just me who thinks that not only Mark is a complete genius but he is also very sexy? To the bloke who said "You were at the Croydon gig aswell" whilst waiting outside for Mark, thank you for introducing me to the digesters. See you all in April. Cath. ------------------------------ Subject: MK, Re-releases, Good-whinging From: Cliff.Barua @ ec.gc.ca Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 08:51:51 -0500 Awright, now that the MK concerts are about over, can we get some setlists. It would be nice to see how the material was all mixed in, and choice of sequencing. Can anyone speculate if Mike would be interested in seeing any of Mark's concerts? And if not, why not? (Other than the pressures of jumping on stage and correcting the dodgy keyboard player). Are he and Mark on good terms? (perhaps Lozenge could answer this) I'm surprised that no one responded to a post from last week concerning cutbacks at Polygram/Polydor. Seagram's (Canadian company, doh!!) has been doing a massive restructuring with big staff and resource reductions, starting with A&M and Geffen. There's much talk about the release of many artists from their labels, etc. Given that the re-releases are essentially for a niche group of fans (with the exception of a few big artists, reissues are not the biggest sellers), it's quite possible that we may _never_ see the reissues. I hope I'm very wrong (having heard the sound on the Greatest Hits & More). Hopefully, if it does not pan out, a Dutch or German company will pick up the slack. And lastly, Andrew Good-whinge moaned: "That reference for my football watching countrymen only, whose hearts have no doubt been bleeding with empathy for me these last 8 days." Not so fast, Andrew. Here in Canada, we have access to footy highlights. Now, why would your manager bring on a substitute that's 9 foot tall, and who can _appear_ to be tripping someone in the penalty box whilst standing 20 feet away?? Well at least the extra dosh will allow you to watch another few weeks of your beloved United. I must admit, I did think about you as the Chelsea penalty shot crashed against the back of the net. Cliff Barua - Toronto ------------------------------ Subject: Funky! From: dirk.vael @ lu.arthurandersen.com Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 14:46:08 +0100 those bassheads who like some disco flava should have a listen to Joey Negro's latest CD "Here comes the sunburst band", which features no only the typical Dave Lee salsoul-ish disco house, but some bloody damn good basslines. Only two bassplayers are mentioned, Henry Thomas & Dave Clarke. it's out on the usual Z-Records label (ZEDDCD001) and when I came into the Auchan commercial center this morning I heard Starchild... strange to hear that there! Cya Dirkies ------------------------------ Subject: I won't but around the Shepherd's Bush... From: "Andre Huijts" Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 22:30:17 +0100 Well finaly a little time to write something about last weekend. What is there left to say ? I think most things already have been said here, but the sum it all up: Fantastic to meet so many digesters (and shame to "miss" some !) Fantastic gig, Mark at his best, Nathan and Trevor (is that right) were excellent players as well. Give Lyndon a break, he was only thrown in a couple of weeks before the gigs. I wouldn't like to be in his shoes having to learn so many songs in such a short time. Fantastic place, the Empire, really nice atmosphere, _so_ close to the stage ! Fantastic that it was sold out ! Fantastic that you all brought the money for the ordered CDs ! FANTASTIC to meet Jakko, Gary and especialy Boon after the gig ! Boon looked very surprised by all the attention. I got the chance to tell him I really loved his lyrics on One Man, and he looked me straight in the eyes and thanked me for that..... He signed the "Past & Presence" cover for me ! Someone asked him if he would ever play again with Level 42.....we all know what he answered alas.... Jakko & Gary also signed some CD covers. It was all just like a dream come true. And now time for some confessions: I was the one who threw the first Dutch hat on stage......it was part of a devilish plan Henri and I (you know the Mark King stalkers) had conceived to draw Mark's attention to the fact that there were some Dutch fans as well, and much more importantly to beg him to not forget Holland in this tour. I think all of you who were there saw it worked out pretty well. Whatever he may have thought (or said), our goal was reached ! Let's hope it will also have some effect ! By the way can some of you remember what Mark all said about the hat and the Dutch "Hup Holland" flag Henri was waving ? My English is not all that bad, but I din't get some things he said. During one song (while holding up my Dutch flag with one hand, Mark looked straight at me, and I imagined he recognized me since he threw his head back as if to say "hi !" Must have been my stalkers' imagination...... O well I think I am only know starting to wake up and realize it all wasn't a dream at all. And now some personal notes: Erik: Thanks very very much for having us sleep overnight at your very nice appartment in Chelsea ! It was great staying with you, hope you will settle in London soon ! Really enjoyed your bassplaying ! Shannon: I really liked the joke with the whistles. Luckely I managed to keep all 144 pcs. in my bag during the gig, so all MD and video recordings should be "whistle-less". Thanks Shannon, it really made us laugh ! Eric: Great meeting the man who started the digest ! I think I saw a very content smile on your face all the time ! Winston: Nice work on the CD ! Thanks ! (Regretfully the label was coming off a bit after I left it accidenlty in my car overnight....don't worry, it sounds just as great without !) Lolita: Great to meet again. We've met in Amsterdam, NYC and London now.....what's next ?;) Bill, Bill, Chris, Tony, Jennifer (who's hand were you holding ????? :O !), Greg, Christien, Sonia, Laurre, Morgan, Don, BobC,.....all of you: you are absolutly a bunch of wonderful people. It's great meeting people you've never seen and feel at home with instantly ~ really hope to meet you all again in the future (maybe a Dutch ILF ?????? 2000 ?) Hope I didn't forget anything....if so I'll update. By the way I will try and put the piccies up ASAP ! Groetjes, Andre P.S. Who gave me the ILF '98 shirt ? I was so busy I didn;t even notice who threw it on me ! Thanks for that, wonderful design ! ------------------------------ Subject: set list From: Nigel Collier Date: Wed, 3 Feb 1999 22:14:08 +0000 I've updated my Manchester (and other gigs by default) set list page (www.ncl.ac.uk/~nnac/setList.html) with accurate order and timings courtesy of Paul Docherty. I've also used an image of Mark based on one of Robert McCormick's shots from Shepherd's Bush - I think it looks cool - it's worth a quick look, trust me. A couple of things.... 1 If anyone wants a vinyl copy of A Physical Presence, I saw one today at a local secondhand record shop here in Sydney. It's an Australian version (looks exactly the same, but says 'manufactured and marketed in Australasia under exclusive license to Polygram Records' or something like that. It was only seven bucks, so let me know. 2 I'm thinking of getting a new mobile phone, with a new number. The number I'd like is 0415 383542. Then I can tell friends to call me on '041 LEVEL 42'! Think about it, but not too hard. 3 Have Mark/Mike ever been involved in any musical collaborations? I mean like Queen & David Bowie, UB40 & Chrissie Hynde, Freddie Mercury & that fat opera bird, U2 and that fat opera bloke. 4 I already have a couple of legendary Digesters helping me on this, but I want to mention it here ... if someone can get me an MK tour poster (preferably signed) and in good nick, they will be the recipient of a vinyl Australian version of 'Level 42'. I must add, though, that the two Digesters I've spoken to privately have first refusal - they know who they are - thanks, guys. 5 If anyone knows Rebecca Johnson's (RJ's) email address, please mail me with it. Fantastic crowd Mike (Sydney City Milkman) Big shout to all Australian Digesters! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: Lynden conner From: "Christien De Roo" Organization: MailCity (http://www.mailcity.lycos.com:80) Date: Thu, 04 Feb 1999 07:15:12 -0000 Hey guys, Sorry for all those mails yesterday but I was still half a sleep. Mayby this is old news but when I listended to a life tape of Level 42 'Live at the Hammersmith Odeon London 07/12/90' I notist 2 things. 1. This tape has got the same live version from Kansas city milkman as Mark did on this tour. (With the part of living it up in it) 2. When Mark introduced the band (on the tape) he said the people doing things at the back Say goodnight to Annie Mcguig and Lyndon Conner So Lyndon did the backing vocals for Level42 in 1990 I don't know if this was just for once or the whole UK tour. When I heard the tape, I thought Lyndon was a woman. From: J Shuford Date: Thu, 4 Feb 1999 00:23:55 -0800 (PST) Microbabies: I've been sitting here grooving to the Eternal Groove of Earth Wind & Fire again, and I couldn't help but think how cool a cover of "Shining Star" L42 could have done, either in their original incarnation or with Gary on drums and Jakko on guitar. This got me to thinking about a new thread. Are there songs you wish L42 would have covered, either on an album or in a live performance? I don't think I would have wanted covers to appear on their albums, but I think some other live covers beyond "Sunshine of Your Love" would have been cool. There's such an obvious affinity between L42 and EWF (as Standing in the Light would attest). One thing I wish L42 had had which EWF had/has is access to larger brass and percussion sections. I always thought L42 would have benefitted from a big horn section. You know, it would have been fun to hear people performing some of the parts which got sequenced. Anyway, please add any suggestions and what affinities you see between L42 and the artist/song in question.
