Are there any Colin James fans out there? I am looking for a greatest hits album he has out called "Then Again." I believe it is on the Virgin label. I've tried all the online music stores including some that specialize in hard to find imports but to no avail. If anyone knows a Canadian online source that offers this or even an address of one that's not could you please e-mail me. Thanks, Dave M. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: WOW !!! From: "Adrian Bond" Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1999 20:44:04 -0000 That's the only thing I can say after the Croydon gig. The band was fantastic! The songs played were inspired choices. I was completely blown away with how strong Mark's voice was throughout the show, much bigger and more range that I ever remember before. I didn't think that Lyndon was all that bad (I've tried learning a load of L42 keyboard parts in a short space of time myself and it isn't easy) but it was a bit strange hearing the Mike Lindup stuff being sung in the style of Sting! Nice to see all you digesters there, how did you manage to get the best seats in the house ? Thanks to the French contingent for keeping me company when we were waiting for MK outside in the freezing cold. We sang loadsa songs to pass the time but no-one else joined in ! Obviously the rest of them didn't know the words ? :-) Meeting Mark just rounded the night off perfectly. He was his usual humble self and spend a lot of time shaking hands, signing autographs and chatting with every single fan that had waited for him. I asked him what was the story behind the red bass guitar (half way through the gig he changed to a red bass that I had never seen before and thanked someone in the audience for lending it to him!). He said that the Fender didn't have the punch for the L42 stuff so he had tried a Bernie W? bass and it was perfect for what he wanted, he couldn't get one in time and so he borrowed one! He said that Bernie was going to bring one back from the USA for him. I agreed that there was a marked difference in the sound between the basses. To be honest the Fender sounded poor when slapped. He said that he still enjoyed playing the 'Level Stuff' and that's why he wrote it. He seemed to be getting his jollies slapping away on the old stuff just as much as he did playing the new stuff. He also said that he would always play lots of the old stuff because when he goes to see his heroes he wants to hear them play their old stuff too. I told him that the band sounded quite tight, he nodded his head and said that it was only their fourth gig and they were going to get tighter! I too was a bit surprised when he said that there would not be another single and that Eagle might be dropping him. He didn't seem to worried and said that he would just switch labels and that he was still going to go on with another tour around March/April time. Someone asked if he would set up his own label but he said he wasn't interested in that. What a night. Everyone in work the following day said that I was wandering around with a big grin on my face. I only wish I could have made it to some of the other gigs. Steve Randall - hope you managed to stay awake during Mark King's show :) (Levelfest memories) I have a Prince's Trust 10th anniversary LP for sale, $1. (U.S. preferably) It has L42 doing 'Something About You' on it. >The keyboardist did die, yes. He was murdered by his gay lover, as I recall. > >AG Keyboard player? Die? Who??????? ----don't worry. This was someone's attempt at humor (he's usually spot on, and very funny, btw). the keyboard player didn't die - he's just resting :) (of course, unfortunately, guitarist Alan Murphy did die, though. rip) -Bruce. (I'm going to the U.K. in August. - perhaps Mark will have a concert for me then?) ------------------------------ Subject: Vienna From: "Lorenzo" Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1999 17:49:10 +0100 Hi friends ! I would like to know if someone of you will go to see the Vienna gig. I think I will be the one and only italian that night. Lorenzo ------------------------------ Subject: Shepherds Bush Empire Gig From: "Alex Green" Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 02:31:27 -0000 I've just got back from the Shepherds Empire gig and it was amazing, Marks bass sounded really low but bright, his band was great, Mark was really funny. However I did miss Mike's vocals on some songs, both Nathan and keyboardist had to sing Mike's parts, I guess to be able to cope with Mike's range. It was also strange hearing Mark singing Mike's parts in "Kansas City Milkman". Mark said at the end that if he was to play hear at the end of April would we come ? Of course we shouted "Yeah" So those of us that can go I think we should support him by going. But I guess I don't need to twist anyone's arms :) Its been 4 and bit years since Mark play (Royal Albert Hall) and his bass playing since bowls me over, I love his new bass sound; so much bottom end but really spikey and bright. The support band were great, people at the front were winding up the bass (playing double bass) to slap the bass, I wandered if anyone from the digest was involed. There was a really nice atmosphere in the venue not something you always get at a gig. I wonder if Mike will bw able to do any Level 42 stuff when he tours (hopefully and v. interesting). From: igotan @ ombomb.demon.co.uk Date: Mon, 01 Feb 1999 04:11:58 +0000 Hi all, long time no -email an all. I've just got back from the Shepherds Bush gig and it was totally excellent, with some brilliant thrown in for good measure. The crowd were pretty cool too....saw the dutch guys hat being thrown and all , and I think I spied some the digesters in the crowd (I was hiding in the balcony;-) I took a coupla mates with me who had never seen L42 or MK before and it blew them away :) I managed to snag 31 'One-Man' postcards (give aways at the gig) so if anyone wants one then e-mail me and I'll stick one in the post (can be mint , i.e I'll put it in an envelope, or not, i.e I'll just stick a stamp on and post it.) No cash necessary, but this is a first come first served basis and is intended only for those who could't make any of the gigs (Hmm, no much of a concellation but then it's better than nought:) The good news tho', Mark said that there's gonna be another tour in April...YeeeHaar :) 'Follow Me, to the end of the Earth, Follow Me, till it all breaks down' Dave Crowson http://www.ombomb.demon.co.uk/ ------------------------------ Subject: Shepherds Bush... AAAAAAHHHHH! From: clare.reeves @ bbc.co.uk Organization: bbc Date: Sun, 31 Jan 1999 9:31:24 -0000 Hello! Well.. I don't have much of a voice left this morning (so it's a good job I'm typing then) after the fantastic gig last night. I was so excited.. it was just like the old days. I was more than happy to wear my ageing Hammersmith t-shirt (although there weren't that many others wearing memorabilia) and soak up the atmosphere. I went with Lisa Hack and her boyfriend and we were very (pleasantly) surprised by the crowds outside and the length of the queue. Better than we expected. The support act went on too long. They were clearly having too much fun.. they were OK but we were all getting impatient and almost a bit bored waiting for the man himself. Mark's set was great.. good combination of old and new but it was sad that no one near me at all knew the words for any of the One Man stuff, I was proud I did though. I had a pretty good view of Mark and Nathan. Mark looked as delicious as ever!! (sorry) And he seemed really happy. He put so much into the performance, determined to give us the greatest show and he got SO much thanks from the crowd.. we just didn't shut up!! Lyndon held on in there (mostly) but I don't think Mark entirely trusted him.. but I got the impression that he'd become a bit cooler about Lyndon's goldfish memory! It felt like a really special performance and I am so pleased I was there to share it. Did he mention that he'd be back at Shepherds Bush in April?? I need more!! Finally.. fantastic to meet so many Digesters!! Bilal.. what a friendly fella.. introducing Lisa and I to everyone. So hi to.. Bilal, Greg, Winston,Don (thanks for the Digest pins.. we're wearing tham with pride) Eric, Carl, Lolita, Jennie, Sonja, Morgan and all who I haven't mentioned who we met. Hope to see you all again soon. I'll go away now!
