Charl Mocke ------------------------------ Subject: The Nature of the Beast from "Plant P" From: Anthony Burns Date: Sun, 03 Jan 1999 05:56:37 -0800 The sad but amazingly simple truth about anyone who would live such a racist, pee-brained (that spelling is intentional) existence is that in their heart of hearts, they are living a life with no soul. Instead of being angry for his words, we should lament the fact that this person will continue to hate and offend others for years and then die with nothing but regrets and the pain of ignorance on his lips. He will never amount to anything and we should feel sad at his fate. But it is time to move on celebrate our own good fortune. We can share music and experiences that Mr. P. will never comprehend. We can think of love and tears and know that Mr. P. will never touch any of those memories with one word from his petty, little mind. It's late I know But I can't sleep Peace of mind is hard to keep I saw ot on the news today A thousand lives just blown away I want eyes I want eyes Mr. P. should do so well to understand. I'm 28 years old and I live in Nieuwkoop, Holland. I'm happy to have found a way to correspond with Level 42-fans again after the ending of many L42 fanclubs. I've been a fan since 1986. My brother bought his first CD, 'World machine'. After I heard that CD I started buying more music of L42. At the same time I met a fanatical L42 fan at school. My collection of L42 items increased quickly and is still increasing. Because of Mark King's bass playing I bought a bass and started playing. After 4 years of playing I joined a schoolband. We played Rock, unfortunately not Funk, and we even got the opportunity to play as a special guest at a concert of Normaal, a famous Dutch rockband. After that concert we split up. I met the band once in 1991 after a concert in The Hague. They were very friendly and they really took their time to talk and take pictures. I have many things to tell you but I have to keep it short. At the moment I'm still looking for video and audio tapes of L42. Especially from after 1994. Maybe we can swap. Further I'm looking for (Dutch) fans who would like to visit a concert of Mark King this year. I read he will not visit Holland so I have to go abroad. Who wants to come along? Isn't this a Level 42 fan group? What's with all this mail about racism and nasty e-mail and foul language and squabbles and crap? I thought I'd be reading about the group and related stuff, not all this junk! I'm finding it hard to see ANYTHING relevant to Level 42 amongst it! How about taking your squabbles elsewhere and stick to the focus, guys - LEVEL 42 - one of the GREAT bands of the world. I'm sure THEY wouldn't be interested in reading this rubbish...... -I couldn't agree more Chris. This list is mostly a waste of time. Welcome anyhow. You can still find the occasional L42 related mes ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Subject: off to play soldier. From: PFCPaull @ aol.com Date: Sun, 3 Jan 1999 12:41:03 EST I am leaving for 2 weeks now to play with my tank as a proud member of the US Army. In yesterday's digest I had mentioned the willingness to send out copies of the W. Badarou CDs that I own. Just to let you know that since I will not have access to my computer for 2 weeks, I will not be able to fulfill these requests for a couple of weeks. However, being my first day on the list, I am not sure if this is the correct procedure. Would you correct me or advise me of the web address. Cheers Paul Bannerman Toronto Canada Paul J. I have no choice but to proclaim that "Daniela Dobrinov" is now my favourite Digest name, replacing the still-beautiful "Angelina Rogero". Daniela, my Bulgarian is not so good, so I'll use Serbo-Croatian: "Hvala dobre. Ja ta volim." (Many thanks. I love you). Is Hristo Stoichkov playing anywhere this year?? By my calculations, for those in Canada, Level 42 will appear on the Comedy Channel re-runs of S.N.L. on Tuesday January 12 (11 a.m. and 5 p.m. eastern time). They appear about 20 minutes into the show, right before Weekend Update. To be safe, set your VCR's for 11:15 to 11:45. Loz raised the point of Joe P.'s multiple addresses. In recent X-Files episodes, they have had stories about identity switching. Maybe Loz is really Joe P., though for my money the real Joe P is none other than Andrew Goodwin. If you say Joe P. backwards in Swahili, you get Nightfly83 - which just happens to be Andrew's sign-on name. Think about it. I'm not advocating endless tangential threads about unrelated topics, but if things wander off here and there for a couple of days then that's fine by me. Fact is, if you try and talk only about a band defunct for five years you'll find you get fairly repetitive and dull very quickly. I prefer to think of the Digest as a forum for people who like Level 42, rather than purely for discussion of said band. AG ------------------------------ Subject: L42 Chat room? From: "Adam Hankinson" Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 02:01:22 -0000 Hello friends, I was sitting here at the PC (bored) and thought I'd try something new...the result? A chat room set up for Levelheads! Hopefully it will come in usefull for those of you not on ICQ and may be of use for organizing our little get together this month :-) Try it out, you never know, there might be two people in there at the same time! http://members.xoom.com/adz42 Adz ------------------------------ Subject: I'm back! From: "Charl Mocke" <9413693 @ narga.sun.ac.za> Organization: Stellenbosch University Date: Mon, 4 Jan 1999 09:30:42 +0200 Hi there everyone! No don't be alarmed by the subject line... I am NOT Joe P.! :) After a long period of absence resulting from studies, work, holidays, and annoying relationship hassles, I am proud to say that I will once again be part of the digest. Sorry I've been lurking (couldn't help it)!!!!! My new year's gift to everyone - some brand new L42 MIDI files!!!! All of those who have received MIDI files from me in the past will get these new ones again, as well as anyone who also wishes to have them. More info (as well as a listing of the songs) later the week! Coming back to Joe P, I see he is back after 2 years, and blending in in a subtle way into the digest with his familiar pattern of attempting to disrupt everyone and everything. His extremely untasteful attack on Lolita, for whom I have great respect for, actually occured TO THE DAY he started his rantings, exactly 2 years ago (30 Dec. 1996 -> 30 Dec. 1998)!! He is quite probably subscribed to the digest, but he will come out of the closet some time. At the moment his strategy seems to be to e-mail anyone who puts a posting to the digest, hoping the person will CC his message to the digest, or at least mention him on the digest. All in an attempt to gain attention to "back" his grand "re-entry" posting he is bound to make any day now. Well I think all we have to do is to ignore him on the digest (i.e. not mention him / CC his e-mails); that might put him off. Sorry to have mentioned him, a few of you are sensitive about the subject; I just wanted to express my idea of what his strategy seems to be. 'Nuff said, getting back to the music: I need the lyrics of "As Years Go By"; can someone please e-mail it to me? Thanks!
