The CD _was_ very much a development of both Sony and Philips. Philips had the optic laserdisc (analogue mind you ! and also in the first place for video only) Sony did the digital part. However Philips too intended to make smaller than 12" size discs (7" suprise, surpirse !) from the beginning. However, I recall reading somewhere that it was actualy Mrs.Morita who wanted to have some opera or something on one single disc, and thus created the idea for a 74 minutes format, but of course this could be untrue. Whoever it was: thanks to the man/woman who had this great iedea of the 5" disc. Imagine 12" CD-ROM players....... :) ! > Yours sincerely / Met vriendelijke groet, > > André Huijts > > Unit Coordinator SRTCA Helpdesk > Deputy Team Leader NL Helpdesk TSEA-222 > > SSI, NL Helpdesk, Dokter van Zeelandstraat 1, 2265 BD > Leidschendam, room 5C phone +31.(0)70-303 1011 fax +31.(0)70-303 1926 Internet e-mail address : Andre.J.Huijts @ IS.shell.com ------------------------------ Subject: From: "Allwyn & Laura Kelly" Date: Tue, 5 Oct 1999 09:16:33 -0600 To those that I have not returned email to: I am sorry, Atticus, my youngest son was in the hospital a couple of days last week. He scared the shit out of his mother and I by trying to clamp his airway down one morning last week and turned blue. He is fine now though. Amazing what some steroids and a little epi can do. Okay, could you please be a little more elaborate on this subject. What is Atticus doing " trying to clamp his airway down"? Glad to see he's okay. later laura ------------------------------ Subject: Bad Day At Black Rock From: "Andrew Goodwin" Date: Tue, 5 Oct 1999 20:52:05 -0000 > Subject: Wally Badarou > From: lawford42 @ juno.com > > Does anyone out there know what Wally Badarou is up to these days? > Working on a new album? Are there any > more? Aha, it must be time for my quarterly mention of the Wally Badarou album time forgot, Back To Scales Tonight. His first album, which seems to be owned by just me and his mother. The album which includes the crazy aural experience of Wally's vocals, and the delightful "if only he'd given that to Level 42" instrumental Lady Finger Blue. Tapes on request. Hol. Memories. I think we all knew that it would be more about SR than MK. Still, we can't really complain, at least we got a slight glimpse of yours truely. Perhaps we could use Brighstone Holiday Centre for accomodation when the next Levelfest is over on the Isle of Wight. It's reasonably priced for B&B!!!!!!! Worth thinking about perhaps. Once again, hope you all weren't disapointed, and as Mark would say; 'Drum stop, very bad, very bad!' Cheers Dave Webster ------------------------------ Subject: Uncle Ernie !! JLT must be "Uncle Ernie" (and a cousin of Norman , of course !) ------------------------------ Subject: Car Rental From: Christopher Lawless Date: Tue, 5 Oct 1999 22:14:12 -0400 Hi all- If anyone out there is planning on renting a car from Alamo Rentals before October 31st and would like a coupon for a free upgrade, e-mail me with your mailing address (lawford42 @ juno.com) and I'll send it off to you. I received the coupon in the mail as part of an AT&T "Rewards" package but have no use for it (and I just hate to see things go to waste). I figured someone in the Digest could take advantage of the offer. Chris ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. To scene set for our friends outside of the UK who didn't get to see this was that Shane was talking to Mark on a putting green on a holiday camp on IoW. Mark couldn't help himself but to have the putting stick in both hands.......so who else thought Mark was going to use the putting stick as a guitar???? And of course we had to wait right until the end of the 30 minute programme before we saw our man! The main theme of the interview was about when Mark played in a band in holiday camps...if anyone wants a transcript then I'll replay the video & take the interview down & type up....just e-mail me privately, & I'll oblige. Bye. Fiona `K'
