I'd like more like this.. even if I think the instrumental part would have been longer.. Outstanding Good one :) Throwing Sevens Really dislike the beginning and relly love the ending... Strange song this one Keep Climbing & Dont Say I Dont These are my favourite, nice changing sounds Song For Ria This is my most-hated one.. it recalls me of a ye' ol' western ballad.. yuck! :Q Stronger Dont like this one also... too slow and too sleepy Smile Nice song, but not my type.. Clapped Out Good one Hells Bells Another big no-no Bossa Nostra Quite neutral.. not bad not good Then another poll-question: Do you find that ALL of the backing vocals are Mark's ? I really dont think so.. maybe he touched his voice with computer to distorce it? It really dont seem his voice!! It's enough for now :) bye all!! -- ------------ Silvia Cara ------------------------------ Subject: short and to the point From: "sarah wignall" Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 19:32:41 +0100 can any one out there make me a copy of the pier wiggy ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Level42 Digest V99 #208 From: StingFan21 @ aol.com Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 17:11:57 EDT Hey guys, I know I haven't written in awhile it's just that I've had some horrible news in my family. One of my cousins who was going to be 25 was in a car accident and didn't make it. The funny thing was his friend ( the driver) survived. He is in serious condition at the moment but he had his seat belt on!!. My cousin didn't!!! So please everyone be safe wear your seat belts whilst you listen to your Level42 music in your car. On a lighter note. I plant to send for " Trash" soon. I can't wait to hear another one of Mark's albums. I miss Level42 however I think it's great that Mark is still around making good music. Take care of yourselves, Lauren. THANKS Basses, lovely basses ************************** I loved it a week or so back when someone asked if Mark had ever played a fretless - I could virtually hear Don Z falling over himself to fire off a mail to the Digest about his beloved Moon bass - quite right too Don (you lucky swine). I've been vaguely interested in the old chestnut thread of 'subjective versus objective' and can we say that music/art is inherently bad etc following Trash and Just Like That. I think there is a thin line between what's good and what isn't, but I do think there IS a line. However, thinking that half the world would LOVE Level 42's music if they were just exposed to it or had 'better musical taste' is fanciful. Different things appeal to different people, whether we think L42's music is inherently great or not. Count yourself lucky that you get so much out of L42's music but remember it could just as well be anyone's music that rings your bell - most people would 'appreciate' Level 42's music but REAL fandom is in the genes. Bilingual? ********** Oooo, we're getting all Umberto Eco: >True. Can somebody who is truly bilingual explain this next one to me? As >far as I am aware, the Spanish language uses the same verb, esperar, to >mean wait, hope, and expect. In the words of Desmond Lynam - how do they >do that? You should try Hebrew mush, no vowels - so not only can a word mean many things depending on context but many different words look exactly the same but they have different implicit vowels. So for example 'bed' could mean something you sleep in or an area of flowers, only without vowels it would be 'bd' which could potentially be 'bad', 'bid' or 'bud'. Only by experience do you know which vowels a word is supposed to have and to what the word is referring based upon context e.g., "I'm tired, I'm going to bd". Great! Oh yeah, and there are no capital letters, so you can't tell place names from nouns. Okay then....Favorite track from trash......easy....Just Like That....with out a fricken doubt.....time to start learning it on bass.... next.....I feel that NightFly sometimes tends to try to confuse us with his obfuscation. Hence I say to thee....eschew the melancholy rhetoric reminiscent of archaic.....aw hell I don't know what I'm trying to say...... I've decided to quit my band....I'm sarting a new band...one where I can play bass instead of keyboards......We're going to do a couple of L42 covers....What do you all think we should do???? Is that important to me...well no...I'm just trying to keep me mind off other things......I think I'm much nicer this way. The 90's started out so promisingly with the Red Hot Chili Peppers (Blood Sugar)and Beck (Mellow Gold)--good white music and then a lot of good NON-RAP black music (TLC and many others 1994-1996)--then the fall and decline of quality music commenced ending with the pitiful display of the woodstock riots .oh well, there's always the next century. ------------------------------ Subject: One Man...goes into the bin... From: Sean Green Date: Tue, 27 Jul 1999 21:43:44 -0500 Shame...just a shame, I say. I recently spoke with one of the DJs at a local radio station in Dallas, and asked her if she had anything from Level 42 that she could play. I filled her in a little about being a big fan, and all that, and hoped that she could muster something up other than SAY, but told her that'd be all right too. She quickly interjected that she had recently received something "new" by Level 42. "Not likely" I responded, and asked if she meant something maybe by "Mark King of Level 42?" "Yes!!" she replied. Unfortunately, as it turned out, she gave it a listen...yes...it was Bitter Moon. It apparently was not of the same caliber or "sound" that they were looking for, and she went on about the shear "lack of marketing information that was provided...I was rather stunned" she exclaimed. "I think I just ended up throwing it away...sorry." Like a shot of burning acid landing in the depths of my gut, a trickled out a simple reply of "I'm sorry too." "It's rather unfortunate that you chose NOT to play this guy's work, but to throw it in the trash is sacrilege!" I interjected this statement with a hint of coy sarcasm. She chuckled lightly, and went on to suggest that he get some better marketing people. "Maybe I would have given it some more though, and a longer listen." What a drag, and yet they're still playing that Ricky Martin stupid-assed-no-brainer-piece-of-dog-ridden-filth-sorry-stinking-junk-pile-of-rotted-debris-lifeless-overrated-mish-mash-teeny-bopper-hunk-of-crap..."Living la Vida Loca" like it was God's gift to our ears. Now...let me tell you how I really feel! ;) "And now for something completely different..." I can PROMISE you people coming to the Level Roundup 4, that we WILL NOT BE AIRING THAT STUPID SONG AT THIS GET TOGETHER!! --unless voted by a majority otherwise -- ;) Best regards to you all, and for those of you wanting to see my place, I will have a site up for pics and such so that you can see where we'll be having it. We have sunshine (rare thing at the 60th parallel) and I have to be at work. But really, can you explain?
