Thanks to the mighty Carl Mueller I have managed to sort out the last few remaining glitches on my web site. In particular the fact that you had to wait for a whole file to download before you could listen to the music I had put on there. If you have Real Player you can listen to the songs I have put on my site straight away now so if you want to hear Phil Gould's 'A road less travelled' then get on down to my site! http://members.xoom.com/Mrspink42/Mrspinkspage.html Fill in the guest book whilst you are there and let me know what you think. If you want your page added to my links page let me know. Someone will come on here >teaching me how to be sarcastic next.) Nightfly, you should really know that misspelling someone's name is very poor form when attempting sarcasm. That comes off as bitterness or pettyness, when pure sarcasm is much more high-minded. The best sarcasm is actually missed by 50% or more of the readers, and only really hits home to those who are "in on the joke." Of course, you should know this already. As for Mark King's CD offer, can we organize something so that we poor Americans who are dollar-bound and pound-encumbered can pool our orders together and convert the funds at one time, to save on the conversion fees? That way, we could send one check along with a list of addresses to Mr. Mark, thus overwhelming him with CD-duplication work. :D ____________________ PFPD -- newmedia marketing consulting a limited liability company PO Box 281, Granger, IN 46530-0281 v:616.663.2250 -- competitive business advantages through creative technology ------------------------------ Subject: Thomas Dolby 'Retrospectacle' From: Nightfly83 @ aol.com Date: Sat, 3 Jul 1999 12:18:36 EDT What with all this talk of Thomas Dolby, what should I stumble across at my friendly local "we cash your cheques for only 8% of their value plus £1.50" store except 'Retrospectacle' for a fiver. I bought it because I thought someone here might want it (I have most of it already), although if nobody does that's fine because you can't have the peerless I Scare Myself in too many formats. However, since £5 constitutes 41 minutes and 32 seconds of a season ticket, purchasers are more than welcome to come a-knocking. From: "Chris Dickman" Date: Sat, 3 Jul 1999 18:05:20 +0100 Dear all, Firstly, Happy 4th July to all you Yankily-doodles..hope you all have a good day. Charle was asking about TFF yesterday... Well, very closely behind 42 in my 80's and 90's was Tears for Fears. Without trying to bore you all with a massive bandology, here are the bulletpoints. Roland Orzabal (gtr + vox) and Curt Smith (bass and vox) were the frontmen to the band, they had a stab at stardom through a band calledGraduate. They released an album called The Hurting, which had a a big impact with hits like Pale Shelter, Mad World and Change,(get the album, good stuff) From there came the legendary Songs from the Big Chair. I should point out that Ian Stanley on Keys was responsible for co writing most of their big hits. From this album came Everybody wants to rule the world, Shout, Mothers' talk, Broken etc (again, if you don't have this album...get it). Nicky Holland became the Annie McCaig of TFF. Then came Seeds of Love album, featuring the title track and my all timer Woman in Chains, with Oleta Adams joining in on the vox. After a "best of" Rolly went "solo" with Elemental in 1993, then came Raoul and the King of Spain (based on Orzabal's own family history as the influence) In the meantime, Curt (nice pony tail) Smith started a band called Mayfield, and thus proved the genius behind the band was Orzabal all along!! So there you go..potted history, get hold of "Tears Roll Down", Charle, the "best of album, that'll give a broad brush of the band, and it's a damned fine album. If everyone else has posted about TFF, I'm sorry to have gone off topic so much...but I hope it helped anyway. Mark trying to finance his next project? Mark recognizing that, in the face of all the swapping and CD burning that's going on, he'd be wise to make some money off it? Mark giving up on these particular songs? Of course, 70+ minutes worth of material would not be his entire backlog of demos, not by a longshot. This is a pretty big change of heart for a guy who felt that demos were DEMOS and are not meant for public consumption! If this is really Mark's doing (and not some prank), I think anybody who is interested in the CD should purchase it through Mark at his asking price. We all know we have the ability to duplicate this disc for next to nothing and distribute it, but Mark is offering us something he does not have to (and probably has some reasons for doing so). I just think that in this case the right thing to do is to pay Mark directly. Also... I FINALLY had a look at Loz's "Word Machine" at Morgan's site today. After reading the Boon interview (where he says Level 42 will never re-form) and the Mark interview (where he mentions his agent, and his name is not Crockford), this might suggest that Ol' Crock is trying to stir up interest/demand for a reunion concert and THEN go about selling it to whomever would be involved (whether it be the original line-up or someone else). Artists will pick up the distribution themselves and make full profit for their hard work. Well very right so ! We don't need big record labels to earn the big bucks ! Selling less volume with better profits still can make an artist earn enough to make a living. Groetjes, Andre P.S. Just back from 2 weeks on the Greek isle of Kos....very nice. Now the hard work for the 3rd LLLF will start ! Keep you informed..... By the way, why does www.mark-king.com seem to be fast asleap ? The major revamp message gets a bit boring now, and I don't even find the Dutch Superfuif gig on the giglist.
