From: "Hayes, Ken [qual] IE" Date: Wed, 16 Jun 1999 13:22:00 +0100 > From: Gaetan Duperron >(All basketball vitriol to be directed at Ken Hayes please, now that the Kershaw stuff has died down I'm sure he doesn't know what to do with himself.) Yeah! what I've been doing with myself is writing in the digest about Mike and Level 42 in Digest #166 unlike you who has been writing that sports bullshit you keep insisting on posting. That 'my sport is better than your sport' crap has nothing to do with the band or anything remotely related to the band and is of no interest to anyone and really just quite sad..so do us a favour, get a life,or else talk about something a little more interesting. Ken. ------------------------------ Subject: Pants From: ERICWHE01 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 16 Jun 1999 08:24:35 EDT I'm a disappointed man. Mr Nightfly, as well as insulting my good name (?) on the digest, he then failed to turn up for the duel. To really take the biscuit, he still has not sent the soiled underwear that I asked for some months ago, just before he went into hiding. And now, the verbosity has started all over again. Instead of a nice quiet read on the digest with simple words and phrases, and nice pictures for me to colour in with my crayons - now out comes the bloody Thesaurus and the Guinness Book of Obscure Bands. Just like a Crockford shirt, the digest has become a confused and crammed mess. I hope you are happy Mr Nightfly, you have even set the ball rolling on the 'outing' of Winston Walker. Instead of letting him do it in his own time as per dear little Steve in Boyzone, you allowed the world to cruelly hear the story of him 'cottaging' at the Shepherds Bush empire.(allegedly - I don't want David Loundy on my back - well, you know what I meant -oh bugger) You have been back barely 2 weeks, and the world is different, yes, the Lord Lucan of the digest has changed the nature of the digest for good. I'm not necessarily saying that it is a bad thing, but how many computer maintenance companies are now going into overtime trying to correct all the keyboards which will now have the '>' key stuck. The digest resembles the plot of Robin Hood...bloody arrows everywhere !!! By the way - ammonites are fossilised sea creatures - didn't you mean stalagmites. I suspect you do, and was trying to see who took the bait...Eric the Halibut caught again. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY - If Phil Gould bares his teeth when he hits the snare, - THEN does he get thrown out of concerts when hears a drum roll- just for looking aggressive !! I didn t see him at the One Man gigs (I didn't see a pic of him leaning on Mrs Pink - proof enough) - was he thrown out at the start for giving the plot away (as per the Live at Wembley Video) . Eric W ------------------------------ Subject: Pseudo Twit From: Cliff.Barua @ ec.gc.ca Date: Wed, 16 Jun 1999 09:12:24 -0400 Mr Jay Tracy, of that esteemed bastion of open-mindedness, Hah-vahd, opined: "This is really too bad, just when the **LEVEL 42 DIGEST** was nice and to the point, now the legions of pseudo-wit follwers (and try-ers) have to pepper the digest with their...this is just not the place for it boys and girls...create a web page, make your own list." Now, Mr Tracy is entitled to his opinion (the First Amendment of the US Constitution allows Americans to say _anything_ and _everything_). However, I would request that he enlighten the Digest as to what has recently been "to the point". He may very well be correct - I'd just like to know. My interpretation of this Digest (of which I've been a member continously for almost 5 years) is that it is a bit of a social group whose common interest is Level 42, but whose interests may also be elsewhere. Everyday, I see members educating or "lecturing" others on things we may never have heard of before. There have been days and days of "thumb tape", "bass models" and various other topics that don't particularly interest me, but I still peruse through them for any nugget of information or humour. Or I "PAGE DOWN" (novel concept that, Mr Tracy). Mr Tracy, the band Level 42 has been extinct for almost 5 years. In between the odd concert performance and rumours of re-releases, what exactly should we be discussing? OK, last week we discussed "One Man"'s release in North America. So, this week??!!? Even better, since you've demeaned the obvious overall increase in "enthusiasm" of the past week, why don't you draw up a charter of what should be discussed about a relatively fringe, defunct (yet entirely loveable) band, leave the suffocating Hah-vahd campus, cycle over to Mr Hansen's house, and have him present it to the Digest. Jay, my friend, put on some looser underwear, and get out and enjoy the beautiful Boston spring/early summer!! By the way, your last post to the Digest was about "The Gap" and "Bill Withers" (which I thought was a good example of educating others - even though you inexplicably forgot to mention "Ain't No Sunshine" :-) ) CB ------------------------------ Subject: Chris, Toilet, Nathan, etc From: Winman42 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 16 Jun 1999 09:11:21 EDT Gee thanks Chris, like I need my personal life spashed all over the digest pages. You know you are the only Toilet guy for me, baby. Well, except for maybe Bill Wilson that is. :-) Moving right along..tell Nathan I'd pick up a solo album, as I thought he did a GREAT job on the 'One Man' tour. I've noticed that HMV records, The Virgin Megastore, and Tower records are all carrying the USA release of 'One Man'. I'm still waiting for some of the smaller stores to carry it, so i can get it cheaper that $17.99 I also find it strange that the US release has that silver, sparkling artwork of a quarter moon on it. It's an obvious reference to the track 'Bitter Moon'. However, as far as i can tell, this track is not being released as a single. Go figure. tcoy, Winston p.s. In my urgency defend myself I failed to remember what I had written in the first place. As it appears, AlienHorse sent me an email that was completely in a friendly and neighborly content. Yes AlienHorse told told me to go F myself, but did I not tell her to in a previous post? I believe so. With the volume of email I send out to many different sources, both personal and for business, I failed to remember what I had written. The ensuing barrage of insults I sent in AlienHorse's way can not be forgiven, nor do I ask this. I merely apologize to you, AlienHorse for the extremely poor form I have exhibited. It was unfair and cruel. So now I am telling my self to seriously go F yourself Wolfbard!!! To this rest of you, I apologize for wasting your time and energy on such a tragic oversight on my part. I can't promise to settle down or simply vanish, but I will promise to do my homework before I let the bullets fly. No chance. Any macabre souls short of schadenfreude can just search the archives for (whisper it) George Benson. For those who accuse me of low Level 42 content, here's some thoughts on True Colours, which I just recently finally acquired on CD (just TPOA left now - anybody flogging it?) What a very patchy album. You've got Hot Water - storming stuff, although not a patch on the 12"; True Believers - superb bassline, musically one of my favourite L42 tracks of all, although I wince every time I hear the line "I just came back from Cultureburg"; and the sublime Kansas City Milkman (shame they never did a studio version of the live variation); but then the curious "we're not just a bass band" synthfest that is Kouyate; the weedy Seven Days; and the horribly tubthumping Chant Has Begun (woeful lyric - that first verse makes Nik Kershaw's I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me sound like Rupert Brooke). See, I can talk shop as well. She said that anybody can use this service for any event we have planned. AutoEurope (for USA/Canada/Mexico/PR only) 1-800-359-3876 ask for x1193 (Karly) or x1197 (Alisa) I must advise that these agencies are consolidators. That means that they buy BULK space and routes on several airlines and can re-sell (legally) to any consumer under their own fare rules and regs. Working in the travel field, the airlines will always advise you that consolidation tickets are not good (I had to say that when I worked for American Airlines) but they are legimate tickets and most agencies have very good records with the Better Business Bureau. It is just that the airlines would rather pocket the money directly as opposed to a wholesaler. BTW, if you get a ticket on US Airways (or any other carrier) through this agency, you can still get your frequent flyer miles with the perspective airline. Just think of these as "Sam's Club tickets!" Other consolidators that I recommend: For travel to: EU/AISA/AFRICA/AUS/NZ 1-800-305-6536 WITHIN N. AMER and some INTL 1-800-527-2589 For those outside of N. America, you should check for these types of agencies in your own country, sorry that I couldn't find or have access to any foreign companies. The agencies above are strictly for N. Amer originations! I hope that I have explained this clearly, but I felt that this might help some of my fellow fans come to Levelfest and MK gigs, let me know if I can help you further! Watch for tomorrow's lesson on Currency Exchanges 101 (When and When not to!) :) All the best and kind regards, and hope to see many more of you in the coming months!
