Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 09:02:44 -0400 Well, yesterday I was at a small record store in CT and I saw the Rhino Records Mark King release in the front on the New Release board (not tucked somewhere in the "K" section). I told the owner it was nice to see the CD up front. He told me he's been selling numerous copies of the CD for the last few weeks and ordered more copies since it was selling well. I'll be back there today to get the three L42 12inches I also found there. As far as the big stores, I haven't found it yet...... Three cheers for the little shops...Keep them alive.... paul F ------------------------------ Subject: Im Alive... From: "Adam Hankinson" Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 14:16:33 +0100 Hey Up Me Ducks... Just a quickie to let you know I am still breathing. I arrived back at Brum airport last Friday and was wisked away to a week of solid gigs...As I have 2 mins free now I thought I'd just bung some more tosh down for the digest. I will do my "Thankyou's" for NY ILF 99 very soon... Welcome Home Andrew.... (he didn't really go! He was all "witted out" and need time to refresh) Oh..... I am away for a month and return to see that my sig has a new home! < MDear36910 @ aol.com > Look after it Micheal :-) I'll have to come up with a new one now.... gotta go.. Peterboro's calling me Adz ------------------------------ Subject: searching a live-recording From: "Hans Roos" Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 19:28:52 +0200 Hey all, Can anybody help me to get a tape, or even better, a cd with the concert in the Thameshall, Slough, UK, 1st Oct.'83. I really want to have it since I checked out the forever now-site and heard 43 live. I sent an e-mail to the site about a month ago but got no reply... (snif). So if someone can help I would be very grateful. Something else, did you know that on 11th August there will be a total eclips of the sun, which can be seen in almost every part of Europe. It will be a very special day because finally for a short moment we all will be Staring At The Sun.... Greetings to you all Hans Roos (the Netherlands) ------------------------------ Subject: Under The Influence From: Morgan42 Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 19:05:54 +0200 Hi all, I have just scanned a new article about Mark King from Bassist Mag. (July '99) http://www.level42.com/pictures/bassist99.jpg --Morgan http://www.level42.com ------------------------------ Subject: You make me laugh! From: LavaD @ aol.com Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 14:43:13 EDT Hi everyone! I just had to write in and say that yesterday's digest was so funny that I had tears rolling down my face! I wish I had something funny to contribute! Well, this is the best I can do: A couple of days ago I found a copy of a Level 42 12" single DJ remix of World Machine for $5. so I bought it. When I started playing it, it sounded like a slow samba. I thought, "Wow! Is this a new Level 42 song that I've never heard before? Cool!" Then the vocals came in at 1/2 speed, and I realized that it was a 45 RPM 12"! Well, it was funny when it happened, but I guess you had to be there! Bye!---Laura Dreyer ------------------------------ Subject: Music live event From: "MARK BEARDSLEY" Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 20:30:08 +0100 Hi everyone, I have just checked out the music live site where Mark is listed to play on the 20th and 21st of Nov at 12.15 each day at the NEC hall 9. As yet the site only lists these as scheduled, I have e-mailed for more info so will post in if anythng is confirmed. The capacity to the live music hall is 1000. Question time, does Mark like many other performers and sports stars have any good luck charms or anything he does ritually before he goes on stage? Mark ------------------------------ Subject: disaster... From: h.rademaker @ excite.com Date: Sat, 12 Jun 1999 15:53:05 PDT Dear all, First of all let me introduce myself: - 33 years of age (being one of the elderly levelheads???) - 16 years of being a slapping, plucking bass player (and just recently bought my first Trace Elliot amp) - 15 years of being a fan! - 4 months of being a member of this mail service Anymore questions? And now it's time for the sad story: I have to admit that I do not read every line of the digest, so it is quite possible that I've missed the warning: According to the Jazz Cafe's web site, Mark doesn't seem to play on November 26th!!! I've spend over 250 pounds to buy tickets and make travel arrangements... Anyone else feeling very, very bad about this? I asked Jazz cafe staff to contact me about this issue. If something comes up which might be of interest for you, I'll post it. "Remember, the whole world's circus. Don't you be the clown!" I keep forgetting... bye for now. From: D M Lockhart! Date: Sun, 13 Jun 1999 00:44:35 BST If all you've found was a sci-fi connection in the song titles, give a close listen to "Take Care Of Yorself". It's the intro from "Star Trek Theme". In the band's defense, I remember reading an interview with Anne Dudley from The Art Of Noise regarding their version of "Peter Gunn", where she basically said that there are only so many notes in a scale to choose from, and that sooner or later you're going to play something that sounds like "Peter Gunn". I guess the same can be said about the theme from Star Trek, especially when the band is named after the answer to the question of life, the universe, and everything. Although, one of my favourite films is Terry Gilliam's "Brazil", where, on his way home, Sam Lawry goes to Level 43. Credits will do fine, dml42 ******************************************* "If you strike me down, I will become more powerful than you can ever imagine. Be it for the better or not, the resurfacing of our friend the Nightfly seems to have brought a bunch of us out of the woodwork. Sorry everybody. It looks as though we're a package deal. I read today's digest and was aghast at the tone of what I wrote. To those of you who didn't get the sarcasm, I'm not anti-American. I swear. Please don't nuke us. We're, like, your #1 trading partner. Think of the economic repercussions... I'm just back from a thoroughly debilitating day. First, damage to my skin and ears from a blisteringly sunny day down at Le Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Qualifications today. Schumacher, Hakkinen and Irvine, 1-2-3. I like that. Go Schumi! One drag: Jacques qualified sixteenth. Jeez!!! The Honda engine can't get into that car soon enough for me! Second, general brain damage from the second Austin Powers movie. I agree with Cliff. See it and then we can discuss the nutritional benefits of the "Other, other white meat." Too funny! Mommy, what does "shag" mean? Jakszyk (you all remember him?) the album: The Road to Ballina (RES127CD) It's a strange but great album (even my mum likes it; says enough) Also GAvin Harrison, Gary Barnacle, John Thirkel are on it. It's sort of a Jakko Biography, and the best of the 4 JAKKO albums i've got. Maybe you all knew, but anyway... That should finish the job. > this means that rather than being "presidentially" named, I'm > prime-ministerially named. What do you think I was? Some fucking American? How dare you use such language on the Digest. This is no place for the A word. Monsieur raises an interesting semantic point though - can I (aware as I am that he is Canadian) refer to him as presidentially-named? I would say so. I frequently refer to my friend Pius Innocent as papally named, much to the dismay of those at his local temple. > Subject: Pointless snide remarks > From: alex.friesen @ sickkids.on.ca Rarely have subject and author been so blissfully conjoined. > >That's it.
