I managed to get to talk to Mike after the first show in Brigton, and he said that he'd not yet got a record deal, and was interested in the recent developments in publishing music on the net. But this is a big can of worms, and don't expect any movement on net music for a while yet. But, Mike did say he was trying to secure a deal, but with whom I do not know. Mike made the comment that it was a real shock to have to go to the record companies (over them coming to him) and having to finance the gig's himself. If you read this Mike, then we all wish you luck with finding a deal, and you can be sure that we would all buy any releases. Hope this helps, anyone have any more recent news? I wished I was there too, but I'll see you in november. The gig's where I go to are on the 24-25-26 november. 2 years ago I went to London for Christmas shopping and I booked my hotel in august and there where a lot of hotels who where full. So I think that you have to book early. Yesterday I bought the picture disk of Take a look and the limeted editon of take a look with free postcards. Had I known that I was going to be on a Level 42 Digest 12 years later, I would have bought them all and flogged them using the "6 quid paid, 10 quid sold" rule of thumb :-). Speaking of Loz, he has now come full circle, mentioning both Christianity and cunnilingus ("Yeah, baby, yeah!") on the Digest. Perhaps some of the non-native English speakers are reaching for their dictionaries. To be a fly on the wall .... Full credit to Brian for wading into the waters of "are we a bit fanatical here, or wot?" territory. But, like Star Wars or X-Files, you are dealing with a bit of a nerdy faction that really loves their pursuit. But "Jamestown"?? (I think you mean "Jonestown") That really _was_ Kool Aid that Winston was passing around at the Wolverhampton show :-). And no matter what anyone says, Mark Koresh is not from the Isle of Waco. I'm in the Bay Area and would love to have a Levelfest somewhere in Northern California. As I recall there are several people in the Sacramento area and a few more in between San Francisco and San Jose (I'm in the heart of Silicon Valley). How about it, guys? I may even be able to provide the venue (the clubhouse at my grandmother's condo complex, pool, nice room) in San Mateo. Anyone interested can email me directly. ------------------------------ Subject: MK Lyrics Live & Studio From: Mark Walsham Date: Fri, 04 Jun 1999 15:39:53 GMT Ok gang, question time:- On 'A Physical Precence' Album (Lp or Cassette only), on 'Turn It On', Mark sings a lyric, which is also is on the 12" of Freedom. The lyric starts:- 'They've Gone, They've Gone, They've Gone, But The Music Carries On...' And this is where I cannot make the lyrics out, any suggestions to what Mr King is actually signing? I think the Live and Studio versions are different. Over to you. Cheers, Kansas City Milkman Email : maybury @ nildram.co.uk ------------------------------ Subject: 42 and Brian Flint / Real lyrics From: JohnRGab @ aol.com Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 12:47:39 EDT You didn't mention if you have read Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy or not. If you haven't, you should. It will explain the tongue-in-cheek fun we have with '42'. If you have then why the question? On the topic of people seeking out real/alternate lyrics. It doesn't take creative talent to use crude language. It is just childish behavior which people indulge in to make themselves look ignorant and foolish. Or to make one's self feel better after hitting one's thumb with a hammer. Mark has always been in touch with his inner 12 year old, even at 40. And occasionally adding a crude explicative/reference live in concert can be rather funny and a lot of musicians do it, but they aren't, usually, the "REAL lyrics". The alternate lyrics to Running In The Family would constitute REAL alternate lyrics. I have never heard them. Anyone out there have them? Now that would be interesting. More interesting than the "F" word. ------------------------------ Subject: We are nOrMaL From: croehm @ mindspring.com Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 16:46:08 -0400 Brian, welcome to the digest. Now let's set the record straight: >Don't you think it takes it a bit far with all of these 42 references? I >understand the majority of you are just pointing out quirky coincidences for >comedic value. That's all it is, comedic value. After hanging out with 30+ Levelheads last weekend, I can assure you that we are very normal, with no supernatural divine beliefs or any intentions of a Waco thing. So don't be scared. I also observed that we collectively have (way) above-average intelligence, a great sense of humor, and super model-like looks, not to mention outstanding taste in music. Yeah, I felt kinda stupid when I mentioned about three or four 42 occurrences (like in the subway, when we stopped at the 42nd street station) but everybody knew it was just light-hearted fun. I did, though, have an uncanny encounter when, while waiting to board my plane in the airport, ready to leave NY, what song starts playing over the intercom, but "Leaving Me Now", and not the muzak version either! VERY coincidental, don't you think? ;-) Welcome to the club. By the way, if you do organize a NoCal levelfest (and every fan should experience a levelfest in their lifetime) try to do it around the end of July. The wife and I are planning a trip to Frisco/Monterey around that time. I'll be there. That's me today, Chuck Tampa, FL ------------------------------ Subject: Obsessed, me ?, no way ! From: ERICWHE01 @ aol.com Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 19:37:52 EDT Mr Flint has a good way of insulting me - He says - "But what concerns me is that I get the impression that there are those that actually believe Level 42 is some kind of supernatural divine entity that controls your destiny." But, Mr Flint, that is so unfair. I am not obsessed in any way. And I can prove it :- 1) I don't dream of Mark King, and then camp outside his house hoping to mow his lawn, oh no. That's not me. 2) I don't scan twigs onto my website and call them Phil Gould's drumsticks.....that's certainly not me either. 3) I don't have the entire World library of 'Level 42 the Definitive Biography' holding my bed up, forcing me to house my used tissue collection elsewhere. No, there's just tissues under my bed. 4) I don't count in base 42. 5) I don't tell tall stories about how I got my callous (ooh eer missus) 6) My middle name hasn't been changed to thunderthumbs ( does that make my wife thunder thighs ???) 7) I've never presented the boys with pictures of themselves....as if they haven't already got lots of themselves already !!! 8) I don't collect drawing pins with 'Level 42' inscribed on them..... 9) I haven't got a karaoke tape with 'Tie a Yellow Ribbon' on it, which you bring out at parties just to show how well you can mime Mark King sequences from 'Fait Accompli' . 10) My photo album isn't crammed full of me cuddling up to Mike Lindup....(mind you I could put it on my wish list....mmmm, let me think about that one...) 11) I don't make Level 42 midi's from the sound chip of a sinclair ZX 81 computer. 12) I don't keep my record collection in the bottom of my wardrobe, nor is it in a Swiss bank vault ( just keep the collection away from the light Carol Ann...) Even Polydor only keep the L42 masters in a carrier bag under the night porter's desk.... everyone knows that .. 13) I'm not bonking or marrying my e-mail friends...isn't that right Carl Mueller ! 14) I won't contract the talents of the Bader Meinhof gang to get at people who slag off Boon Gould. 15) My life's work isn't that of listing people ho attend L42 and MK gigs. No, none of that obsessive behaviour is me at all, so please stop pointing your finger in this direction Mr Flint. Anyway, if you can just excuse me a moment. It's now time to get into my faded and shrunken World Machine t-shirt, strip to my holey underpants and step into the shrine dedicated to the world that is the groove created by Level 42. I alone will bow toward my picture discs and rarities, chanting the words to 'My Hero' and facing South toward the Isle of Wight. Only the spinning 12" can tell me of the future ahead........ ;-) Eric W. PS. By the way Mr Flint, hows your brother Bernie doing, having heard from him in years. ------------------------------ Subject: eBay stuff From: "Allwyn & Laura Kelly" Date: Fri, 4 Jun 1999 22:56:29 -0600 Just a curious ?
