Deep joy. So what is a > parsec anyway? Haha, I knew my astronomical knowledge would be used again some day. :-) A ParSec is the distance you have to be from the earth so that the diameter of the earth, as you would view it, would be exactly 1 arc second (1/360th of a degree) wide. For example, if I stand in front of my car, I view it at approx. 50 degrees "wide". So, it figures, 1 ParSec is a very huge distance (about 3 lightyears if memory servers me correctly). So, 42 miles per second per MEGAparsec is quite a huge speed indeed. I learned all this when I was very young... maybe even an infant! : "When I was an infant in my mother's arms I would watch the Starlight in the Sky..." "Beam me up, Scotty!!!!!" From: Stuart Ellershaw Date: Thu, 03 Jun 1999 13:07:54 GMT Mark Walsham - Thanks for posting the REAL changed lyrics in The Sun goes down. I had a feeling I wasn't totally accurate with the line I quoted. That's what I get for rushing my first post without listening to the song first to double check. Nice One! Stuart ------------------------------ Subject: Different lyrics From: "Ronald Kuipers" Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 17:06:36 +0200 Hi everyone, I think most of you know about this one it's on The white funky for all of you to hear. In Love games Mark sings "If you won't show your tits to me" Yep he's got a dirty mind sounds like a fun kind of a guy. Some of you may already know that the Belgian national airline "Sabena" has such a fantastic reputation that the phrase "Such A Bad Experience Never Again" is always associated with it! I've flown with them a few times (mostly when I lived over there) and they usually had a L42 track on. It's probably the same tape.... TCOY, Mark - The Bassman ------------------------------ Subject: Mike Lindup and L42 tribute album From: David Moore Date: Thu, 03 Jun 1999 10:15:59 PDT Hello, Reading about Mike's show last month has really made me anxious to hear his forthcoming album. Actually, I'm looking forward to his more than I was with Mark's (One Man is a great album of course). What I was wondering is if anyone has an aproximate release date on Mike's new album? I don't want to wait around for it to get to the states. Another querey: How is the Level 42 Tribute Album coming? Any approximate date on it? What I've been able to hear from the website sounds great! Anyway, thanks in advance for the info. From: Brian Flint Date: Thu, 03 Jun 1999 10:36:22 PDT A few things, some of which might piss you all off. Is there ever a Levelfest in No. Cal.? If not there should be.....unless I'm the only Digester around here. NOw, at the risk of offending all of you, although I applaud the vast amount of all you Level fans because I truly thought I was the only remaining one, I have one question. This seems to be the year when I find out that I am not the most obsessed with certain areas of interest. For one I thought I was the ultimate Star Wars freak, but then the months preceding the new movie I saw people dressed in costume, waiting in line for days on end have light saber duels. Okay, I'm not that bad. Then I thought I was Level 42's only remaining fan, priding myself in buying up every used or obscure CD I could find in independent record stores, listening to them obsessively learning bass part after bass part. Then I run across this digest. I'm hapy to be amongst such great fans, but one thing concerns me. Don't you think it takes it a bit far with all of these 42 references? I understand the majority of you are just pointing out quirky coincidences for comedic value. But what concerns me is that I get the impression that there are those that actually believe Level 42 is some kind of supernatural divine entity that controls your destiny. Okay, great band? Absolutely.....with a doubt. But maybe we should leave it there. No offense intended. I just don't want to go to a levelfest somewhere and have it turn into Jamestown or Waco or something. Peace!! Not however, without a bit of excitement. Seems they boarded their plane in Newark on time, but sat on the tarmac for 2 hours. They were then informed that the plane needed service. They were all bused out the JFK airport in NYC. So they arrived at Heathrow about 4 hours late. They asked me to pass along their thanks to everyone for making this weekend a success. Also, they will see us all in November for the Jazz Cafe gigs. Tcoy, Winston ------------------------------ Subject: New York state of mind From: Daniel James Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 18:29:47 -0700 (PDT) Welcome back everyone. I'm glad everyone made it back safely to their respective travels, especially those who came from so far away (like Winston for example). Seriously though, I'm still here in New Jersey, just enjoying some time with family before returning home tomorrow evening. I'm afraid I'm getting a bit nervous after all of your troubles with delayed flights, but then I have to remember that I'm flying a real airline, so I should be okay :) Anyway, thanks of course go around to all those that played their part in organizing things, thanks to those that simply played, and thanks to everyone for making the effort to get here. This has been one hell of a week! It's been great to renew friendships, get to know some of you a bit better, and simply to see many of you again. Nothing beats heavy traffic in the Holland Tunnel while singing Level 42 songs! Just to top off all the instances of 42 that have been found on this trip (I'll let a certain Fenchie claim one of those for herself), as I followed my uncle into his apartment this evening, I was pleasantly surprised to see him put the key in the door of apartment number... Well, you know which one. The Applefest was fun! See you all in September during the heatstroke-fest in Dallas!!! Happy Birthday to Rolf V, the dreamer... yes, Tianna, it was me that had the problem with a broken drum throne (seat), but Chuck can take credit for it if he wants. (You tend to forget about the seat being broken if you never play your drums, and never move them). The snare head also came loose - due to being used a lot for a change! Bruce p.s. I'm seriously considering going to the Danish Smukkeste festival in August. I've never been there, but it would be worth it to see Gary Moore and Mark King! ------------------------------ Subject: Got some interesting stuff From: Pat Flanagan Date: Thu, 03 Jun 1999 08:35:56 -0500 (Gloat, Gloat) Just received some interesting items: World Machine 12" Remix, stamped "Demonstration - Not For Sale", vinyl mint, cover very good, USA release Lessons In Love Canadian gatefold double album, grey cover with B/W photos of band on front and inside.
