GREEN) Date: Wed, 02 Jun 1999 11:32:08 +0100 Think this may be of interest to some On Sunday (yesterday as I write) I decided it was time to have a good look through my collection - sort it out and put in my wardrobe in my bedroom so it is on display, but behind the door so as not to be damaged by light. I have not really done much with it since I move house so its nice to have it in place now. I always keep everything in a dark place and at a stable temperature and try wherever possible to only play the CD's. It was really cool to have a look at some of those old gems again and set up a display. I am going to take some photos tonight and stick them on my web page if anyones interested so I'll keep you posted. (I have had a lot of question about it hence this post) LOZ 'The Machine Stops and It's Over' ------------------------------ Subject: Alternative lyrics. I am sure there are numerous other examples, but my mind has gone completely blank. First day back to work, tales of the fest forthcoming! Just want to make a correction regarding Carl's post. What we found in NYC was NOT the Bittermoon promo single, but the USA version of the CD. However the actual disc looks just like the promo single, with a cool silver, sparkling half moon on the disc. Also the cover picture is different than the UK version. The US version shows mark in the blue sweater, which is a pic taken from the inside of the UK booklet. Therefore the US booklet is a bit different. They altrered the sing a few other ways too. -Jonathon "in these alien years" ------------------------------ Subject: Another NYC Levelfest Post! From: LavaD @ aol.com Date: Wed, 2 Jun 1999 14:17:03 EDT Hi everybody! It was really nice meeting everyone at the NYC Levelfest. It was really interesting to talk to so many different people including so many bass players and then hear everyone play at the jam session. I must say it has deepened my appreciation for the electric bass! Hope you all had fun and had safe trips home! I had never, nor probably never will again take the PATH train from New Jersey at 3:30 AM, but it was worth is just to hear the surreal Muzak that was being played in the station!!! It's still in my top three concerts ever and I've been to hundreds now. You never forget your first time do you! Hi Ken, I liked your comments about how you notice Mark and other singers sometimes change lyrics in a live environment. I'm sure that one big reason for this is to brighten up the performance for themselves as much as the audience. Imagine having to perform the same song over and over again night after night. I don't know how they do it, even when the songs are as good as Mark's! I'm sure you all know about the 'real' lyrics to The Sun Goes Down when Mark sings "I want to f*** someone, before they drop the atom bomb" live, but on record he replaces the 'F' word with 'love'. Ahh! Nowadays they'd keep the good old 'F' word in then just blank it out on the radio like on Alanis' great "You Oughta Know". It's not the same when it's been tamed down is it! I've heard that the 'real' version of The Beautiful South's "Don't Marry Her" is much ruder than "Don't marry her, have me" but I don't know what it is. I think I can make an educated guess though! I still haven't heard One Man yet, is it good? How does it sound compared to L42, or his first solo album?? Bye for now! From: Adonis322 @ aol.com Date: Wed, 2 Jun 1999 22:02:00 EDT My Dearest Levelheads, As the subject reads, finally I got the "One Man" CD.......Awesome!!!!! Just stunning....The slower tempo songs always seem to be talking directly at me, ya know??? Favorites?? The songs that grabbed me and wouldn't let go were... 1. Bitter Moon 2. Swimming with Sky 3. Love Wars 4. Resupply.....oh man what this song does to me!!! Anyway, the guy at Tower records just about knows me on a first name basis because I kept bugging him after it was SUPPOSED to be released on the 18th....they finally got it in the mail yesterday and last night I was there!!!!!! And happened to find a World Machine cd so picked it up as well..... By the way, for all you people in the UK, What kind of car is Mark leaning against??? I have never seen anything that resembles that here in the states..... I'm glad all you people had such a wonderful time at the levelfest in NYC....Wish we could do something like that here in San Diego or even in LA.....I can always wish, I suppose...... Mark is not just "one man", he is THE man...... cheers. I really do like it very much and I think I will be with this firm for quite a long while! BTW, Sorry about the Polydor (April Fools Issue, 1999) job rumour, Shannon thought it would be a GREAT idea to fool everybody into thinking that I landed the 'ultimate' job there. I told her it was a bit overboard, but she did it anyway (SHAME ON SHANNON), it was ALL HER FAULT! Some poor guy (somewhere?) wrote her asking if I could connect him up with a job at Polydor (NOW) I am sure that he is scaling the K2 as we speak...see what you did Shannon Galapegos!!!!!! I was visiting Carl Mueller's, Bill Wilson's, and Adam/Chris's websites looking at the pix taken back this past Jan/Feb 99 during the last MK tour for One Man. I have to say that it really was the best time I have ever had with so many of my friends nearby to share in the excitement of the tour and reunions. I really would like to stress to those people in the 'woodwork' (YES YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE - THE SILENT READERS WHO RARELY OR NEVER POST) PLEASE TRY TO MAKE IT OUT TO THE UK FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF SHOWS, you really don't want to miss these, and to be honest, we really have fewer shows ahead think about it! If you need some advice on travel to the UK ask anybody on this digest (EVEN ME) on the most 'cheapest' yet enjoyable way to go over! You won't be alone over there and (TRUST ME) you will always have someone nearby with L42 or MK posted or worn on something, to talk and/or drink with. SINGLE PEOPLE...yes you.....who know you could meet your future partner in life? (CM/LM and SG/AH) Basically,in a funny way I am trying to say that it is the right time to start planning a visit 'over there' to see these shows, so wait no longer and DO IT! I hope to see some NEW faces as well as the OLD faces I have come to miss and call and run up my phone bill to! (?) See you in the front! Mikey PS: 37 Days, 12 Hours, 33 Minutes and 0 Seconds! Yesterday Kool & the Gang hit the roof at NDK in Sofia. Their show was fantastic!!! They sang almost all of their all-time favourites - Get Down On It, Celebration, Ladies' Night, Fresh, Ooh La La La (Let's Go Dancing), Cherish, Emergency, etc. They also played some jazz too. Instead of one lead singer, they had three increadible singers and dancers. The crowd was fully satisfied. Me too. Long Live Funk!!! From: kult @ april.org (Tony Bassette) Date: Thu, 3 Jun 1999 10:57:39 +0200 (CEST) After taking my favourite shortcut to Chicago :) ( I'm kidding ) I was safe home on monday morning, but was in an appointement on Tuesday and completly busy yesterday. I finally find 5 minutes to say an HUGE THANK YOU for the organizer aka Winston, Lolita and Shannon. Everything was perfect except my flight ( even the way back to home was horrible. Sorry if someone is working for this company but "Sabena sucks hard" ). It was good to see everyone again and also to see new people Chuck & Pamela, Winston's friend Al and Richie ( I think ), and Laura. Another thanks to Greg ( nice tour of New York ) Al and Don who are all talented bass player, Laura ( excellent sax player whaouw ), and Adz ( multi-talented instrument player, what a shame you were sick :( ). and all the singers THANK YOU EVERYONE to cover some nice and sometimes hard-to-play Level's songs and at last the crowd just to be a crowd ;). and for my big flying adventure I don't want to bother you with that. Just an awful day. Oh! the only good point with Sabena, they've play "Something About You" during the flight. Take Care and I think it's time to find the place to be for the next ILF ( I promise I'll work my bass and keyboard playing [ mainly the keyboard ] ).
