From: "Hayes, Ken [qual] IE" Date: Tue, 1 Jun 1999 13:31:00 +0100 I've noticed that in some live gigs people sneak in a funny line into one of their songs. I heard Mark doing it on ' Tracie ' on a live rcording I have where he sings "...would you show mewhat I had been missing, let your knickers down" and laughs. Very naughty! Paul McCartney did in on 'We got married' from the 'Flowers in the Dirt' L.P. where he sings "..It's not just a washing machine , doesen't work out if you don't work at it " (sorry if you don't know this one!) Any more L42 or others anyone spotted? There are some things about >it I like very much and others about it I don't care for. What do others >think about this track? Specific things you like or dislike? >Shuf Personally I liked this track as I'm a great fan of Omar although I seem to recall everyone moaning about it on the digest at the time. Talking of other acts, I went to see the James Taylor Quartet and Chaka Khan last night as part of the BBC's music live in Glasgow. It was a great concert but saddened me that I'm now part of the Radio 2 set rather than a young, hip and trendy dude I thought I was ! Also got my tickets for the Jazz Cafe on the 26th of November. As it's for my 30th birthday my husband wants to book a nice-ish hotel in north London. Any suggestions ? I can only print the bannners and the song titles even if I highlight the lyrics. To all at the NYC/NJ Levelfest It was a pleasure meeting everyone, I'm so sorry that I did not make the Jam session but I have seen the Video!!! 2X's I understand that you Drummers? from Tampa have a problem with your seats? LOL My roommate chowed down on the extras from Carmine's, she couldn't believe the portions and all the bread, she said 1 slice for me. I'm getting my stuff together because I'd like to attend the Shows in Britian in Nov. If you didn't make it, you missed it! This was my first time meeting up with levelheads (other than meeting Winston a few years ago) and it surpassed my expectations. What an outstanding family we have here. I just wish I would've had more time to get to know everyone. Big thanks to Lolita, Winston & Shannon for getting it organized (Win spent most of Friday at the airport trying to find everybody) Greg & Bruce for lugging the amps and drums, and all the funky players for the entertainment Sat. nite. Don, Greg, Adz, and Winston's friend Alandis just blew me away with their bass talents, and Laura popping in with her alto sax really livened the gig up. We couldn't have asked for better weather, and Manhattan was the perfect playground for all of us kids to play. Where else could you have southern barbeque while surrounded by 95-story buildings, get dizzy in a revolving bar while slamming $6.00 Budweisers, go 30 feet underground and come up in a totally different place a few minutes later, all while hanging out with the COOLEST people on earth! Regrets: missing my personal bass lesson with Don and Greg (I'll take a rain check on that, guys) and not having more time to jam and get to know everyone there. Thank you all for a fantastic weekend. Winston asked me to pass along that HMV Records in New York actually carried the ONE MAN Promo cd (as was offered on EBAY a while back, and was brought to the Digest's attention by Loz). It is called "LIMITED EDITION CD-PRO" and contains Bitter Moon (3:58), One Man Radio Edit (3:50) and One Man (5:22). You can check out a scan (originally from EBAY) on the NEWS PAGE at http://Forevernow.com/ The U.S. version of the album "ONE MAN" is also available (it has a different sleeve than the U.K. version, ie a pic from the same photo shoot). tcoy Carl ------------------------------ Subject: Odd Off-Topic - Beverly Craven! From: HAMMOND Paul Date: Wed, 2 Jun 1999 08:02:18 +0100 Hey All, This does have a slight Level 42 connection. I bought the new Beverly Craven CD yesterday called "Mixed Emotions". I was just looking through the liner notes and noticed that most of the tracks feature: Drums: Manu Katche Bass: Pino Palladino Guitar: Dominic Miller Looks a little like the Mike Lindup "Changes" line-up don't you think. Add Gary Sanctuary on keys on a lot of tracks and you have a pretty top lineup! Having said that, the actual music seems to be only average .. but if you liked her first two, you like this one...
