I am 44 and remembered the group from the 80's only vaguely. But because music today is so bad,i looked for a greatest hits album from many 80's groups to try to find music i may have missed back then.Level 42 was the first group i thought of and when i found the album "Level Best",i thought it was GREAT and eventually played it hundreds of times (tape and CD) over the last two years. It is definitely one of the greatest albums ever. My best wishes to all and hope everyone is livin' it up til the sun goes down... ------------------------------ Subject: Level 42 on The Fast Show From: "steve whyte" Date: Sun, 30 May 1999 09:30:08 PDT Having read about the French & Saunders sketch that Mark appeared in, I was reminded that Level 42 once appeared on The Fast Show, (comedy sketch show on BBC) back in '94. It was an early episode, before it gathered a cult following, but the sketch was quite funny. During the end credits of the show, 'Forever Now' started to play, and a title said 'Special Guests - Level 42.' The titles then dissolved into an image of the band who continued to play the song for about 20 seconds. Eventually, one of the characters from the show came onto the screen and shouted at Mark, telling him to shut up and get off the screen! The band then left their instruments and walked off. That's it! I remember being extremely surprised to see the band on TV like that, but it was a funny moment in a quality show. Did anyone else see it? You can actually buy the first series of 'The Fast Show' on video, so it might be interesting to see if they included this bit. I'm buggered if I'm paying £12 to find out, though! Just thought I'd let you all know. I just want to make comment about playing and avoiding blisters I have been playing for around twenty years and have developed "skin plating" on my fingers but when it is hot and humid and my hands sweat the skin softens and its like there is no callus and blisters start. When this happens, I dry my fingers and put a little "Crazy Glue" on the tips and they are as good as new. I use a small drop and very quickly (within a second) close and open my fingers ONCE. We all know how well Crazy Glue sticks skin together. If you do it right the Very quick closing and opening of the fingers causes napping of the glue and gives a ruff surface and works as a pretty good temporary callus. ------------------------------ Subject: Cree Summer From: "Robin E. Walton" Date: Mon, 31 May 1999 02:27:13 -0400 >>This is the actress from A Different World who played Freddie, the ditsy roommate. Her connection to Lenny is that his ex-wife Lisa Bonet starred in that show for a bit. Anyway, I didn't know she could sing - I have to check that out.>> Check out her new solo album "Street Faerie"--also, if you can find it, her old band Subject To Change (I know a couple members from my L.A. days) had one CD out called "Womb Amnesia". Definitely worth a listen. --Robin ------------------------------ Subject: Lyrics From: "Hayes, Ken [qual] IE" Date: Mon, 31 May 1999 10:24:00 +0100 Hey, did anyone ever feel that the lyrics to some L42 songs written by Phil were almost a message to Mark about how he felt.Take 'don't bother me' for example when he says "...spent the 80's in a trance" and "lets hope they don't get fooled again". These lyrics always struck me as being critical of Mark , and it's like Phil still had a chip on his shoulder about certain things.Even the title shows that he is bitter. The second line I quoted is almost saying that even though they have got together to write again he hopes in a way that its not too succsessful in case the big machine cranks up again and he has to go through what he did before. Saying that he also says " ..there's a change in the air " which may reflect him coming to terms with old grudges. It's pretty bizarre hearing mark singing lyrics though that seem to be a message to him. I'm probably over analysing but there's a lot of history in there. Ken.
