It's an insult!! Are we really that much a like???? > My answer NO!!!! Till alle menniskor i Sverige: no hard feelings now!!! Don't be so upset about that! I guess that around 60 to 75 per cent are the same, and we (almost) understand eachother, so I guess it's not so strange for people speaking none of the two languages have a hard time to know which is which! /Frans - at least thinks he understands some Danish ------------------------------ Subject: Re: Skanderborg festival From: "Wil Hensley" Date: Sun, 23 May 1999 09:21:33 PDT >Now in general: >why is it that every time we speak/write Danish, everybody think >it's Swedish??? Till alle menniskor i Sverige: no hard feelings now!!! > >well, take care all!!! > Annie Lysebjerg (a proud Dane) > This is my opinion, having been an exchange student to Denmark in 85/86 (in Vejle, where I first learned of level 42). Very few people outside of the Scandinavian region understand those languages. And they ARE similar enough that you can understand each other, for the most part. To those who are unfamiliar with the languages at all, it would sound (look) the same, but with, perhaps, a regional dialect. Such as if someone from Texas were to go up to Boston. They are speaking the same language, but their dialects are so different, half the time the can't understand each other. When I visited friends in souther Jutland, just above Germany, I had a very difficult time understanding them as well. Does this make sense, or am I just talking in circles? First - check out my new banner which celebrates 20 years of Level 42 - http://homepages.shu.ac.uk/~conslfg/level42.htm Secondly, if anyone should have any problem with ANY copy of Word Machine then make sure you get in touch with me whenever you want and I will be pleased to replace it. Standards may have dropped for a short while about 2 weeks ago when my girlfriend (http://homepages.shu.ac.uk/~conslfg/loz.htm) decided sho would help out by printing and posting copies to fill several addressed envelopes on my desk over one weekend in which I was busy at work - she meant well.
