From: "Troels Dahl" Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 17:19:58 +0200 > As usual, The Danmarks Smukkeste Festival 1999 takes place the second > weekend > in August. This year the dates are 5th-6th-7th-8th August. > > Following artist has been signed, so far : > ... > LEVEL 42`s MARK KING (UK) This isn't Marks only gig in Denmark during this summer. He is also playing the "NIBE FESTIVAL" 24th-25th-26th-27th of june Don't know which day though, but I'm looking into that a.s.a.p. Troels ------------------------------ Subject: Victor Wooten From: Lolita Jackson Organization: Morgan Stanley Dean Witter Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 12:16:26 -0400 My friend is dubbing a videotape Victor Wooten's Bass Clinic that was held here in NY [he did the actual official taping]. He told me it is 85 minutes of Victor playing. He also added an outtake of a jam session between him, some of the students, and the drummer that isn't on the officially released tape. I haven't seen it yet - I will do so this weekend - but I have the feeling this will be a hot item. I have no dubbing capabilities, but perhaps can work with Winman or someone to make copies. If anyone is interested, send me an e-mail and I will e-mail you all back with what you need to do. Thanx. Lolita ------------------------------ Subject: Accommodations near Jazz Cafe From: Nathania Apple Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 09:24:50 -0700 Hello, all! I can hardly sit still after getting off the phone and purchasing my tickets for the MK concerts Nov. 22 & 23 at the Jazz Cafe. Finally a chance to see my idol in person. I booked my airfare also and am now trying to hunt down accommodations somewhere not too far away from the venue. Any suggestions for something fairly nice, not too outrageously priced? Responses via private email are fine. BTW, who else is planning to be there on one or both of those evenings? I'd try to add a few more nights, but it runs into Thanksgiving, so I have to be back stateside by Thursday. Any Level events scheduled? TCOY Nathania (who is rocking out to One Man in anticipation of November) ------------------------------ Subject: can't think of one From: grund @ zeiss.de Date: 21 May 1999 18:37:06 +0200 Greetings to all you FunkFanatics around the globe! Just a few things I've been thinking about: 1) Dan Nesselroth seemed to put an abrupt end to all the extremely-interesting-and-exciting-first-class-bass-slap-talk by expressing his feelings towards Boon, at least that was my impression at the time! (Maybe that was his sole intention though) :-( Well the digest has been a bit boring since then and I'd like to read a lot more about that number one subject. Alright, I do hear a few of you groaning "Oh no, not again", but think about it, without Mark's unique slap style, Level 42 wouldn't have got anywhere. Try to imagine titles like "Love Games" and "Mr. Pink" with a standard plucked bassline (would that work at all?). Level 42 as a band would never have reached the international fame that they did, they probably wouldn't have you as a fan and there wouldn't be no websites nor digest eeether! You wouldn't be reading this! (probably nobody is anyway :-) ) So, here we go again, back to thumbs: Most of us know that Mark uses gaffa tape round his thumb and the general understanding seems to be that he wears it for protection. Now personally I don't think that is the case. My idea is that it gives his thumb more momentum due to the extra weight. It gives him more "bounce". Also, Mark's thumb seems to be rather slim, he needs the extra diameter arond the joint. This I know, because I was lucky enough to catch his tape at the Augsburg gig this year, it only goes just above my thumb nail. Maybe of course neither of these theories are true and the tape is just a personal gimmick. :-) Any of you bass-boys-and-girls use tape? 2) Several digesters have proposed getting together on one or more of the Jazz Cafe gigs. I have been thinking of going on the 26th, but the "expensive drinks" and "strict dress code" postings have put me off slightly. Can anyone answer these questions, originally asked by >From: "Richard Maybury" >Date: Sun, 09 May 99 19:45:47 PDT >Can anyone else answer the following: >1. How long will Mark be playing for each night ? >2. Will there be other support bands/ artists ? >3. Hpw many people does the Jazz Cafe hold ? >4. Is it true the cafe has a strict dress code ? >5. Is it true that the cafe is open till the early hours ? Are there any tickets left at all, anyone know? 3) I finally got "Guaranteed". Thanks to Cristina Gallego, Ben Green and Ronald Kuipers for recommending buying it. From: "Chris Dickman" Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 20:42:28 +0100 Hi all, I just wanted to share some news with you.. Trevor Smith informs me that the rumour of him not playing on the November gigs is confirmed. Although he will be doing the Denmark gig at the end of June, he has signed with a band and cannot do both. He believes that Gary Husband is in fact going to play on the tour. He is also working on a project called the "Muffin Men" and he informs me that a certain Mr Hammond is doing a website for those interested, so keep your eyes peeled. Shame he will not be doing the gigs,.... will "It's Over" ever be the same again without that ride-bell and fat snare?? It'll be interesting to hear "Thunder" Husband in a smaller venue though... Be good, Chris ------------------------------ Subject: Skanderborg? From: BHConrad @ aol.com Date: Fri, 21 May 1999 18:37:37 EDT could someone send some info to the list on the Skanderborg festival, for those of us that are only fluent in English? :) i found a site with info, but I'm guessing it's in swedish... (where is Skanderborg?) I gather that Mark King is playing, and it's August 5-8. I'm doubtful to go, but you never know....thanks/tack. Bruce Conrad of course, now that Morgan mentioned the Smukfest, I'll look into that - sound do-able! (same thing maybe?) ------------------------------ Subject: LevelRoundup in Fort Worth, TEXAS!!
